In The Judgement of Paris, Paris is given three choices power, honor and respect, or the fairest women in all the land. These choices are given by three goddesses named Helen, Athena, and Aphrodite. Paris chooses Aphrodite's choice in the story. Paris should have picked Athena so that he could be a war hero. Paris should not have picked Aphrodite because If he does he will start a 10 year war, lose his nymph, and his life. On page 255 it states “ He gave Aphrodite the golden apple. That was the Judgement of Paris, famed everywhere as the real reason why the Trojan War was fought”( Edith Hamilton pg 255). As one can see if Paris would not have gave Aphrodite the golden apple the Trojan War would not have started. It also states” This was her doing, he said, her crafty, crooked ways”(Hamilton 269).This citation shows how Zeus says that Hera is very untrustworthy and sneaky. However Athena would be the choice for Paris because he would be a war hero which means that the Trojan War might have still started, but they would have won. ”Athena, that he would lead the Trojans to victory against the Greeks and lay Greece in ruins”(Hamilton 255).This shows how Paris would have lead the Trojans to win the war.It also states “ she is a fierce and ruthless battle-goddess,”(Hamilton 24).This shows how Athena would help Paris with the war. As one can see, Athena is the best choice for Paris,because he would defeat the Greeks. Although in Aphrodite's bribe he would die. Also in Hera's bribe he would most likely die

The Trojan War is one of the most known battle or war in history, if not the most known. It was a very, very long war, but there was one main source or reason of conflict that drove it to last so long, it seemed endless. Paris, a Trojan prince, was promised a wife as fair as the goddess of beauty by Aphrodite herself. The particular woman she promised was already married to a Greek King by the name of Menelaus. This started not only tension between the Greeks and Trojans but also anger because they were recently married.Helen should have returned to the Greeks for a few reasons that could have led to a shorter war, or even no war.First off, Greek King Menelaus is her rightfully wedded husband. In book 10 Hermes appears to both Odysseus and Circe and tells them how to react and what to do when them met each other for the first time 'the Giant killer with the golden wand always told me to expect you' this shows that Hermes has been meddling with their fate and he has basically told them to sleep together. Circe's fate and meeting with the gods is much more upfront as she is one herself whereas Penelope's meeting is much more secretive because unlike Circe she is not a goddess
Athena was the Greek Goddess of many ideas, but she was famous mostly for her superior wisdom, her cunning skills in times of war, and her implausible talent for household tasks, such as weaving and pottery. She was celebrated more than any other God in ancient mythology, was the supposed inventor of countless innovations, and her figure gave reason for Greek women to gain rights long before others of their time. The goddess of war, the guardian of Athens, and the defender of Heroes; Athena’s impact on the lives of Ancient Greeks is outstanding. As a resident on Mount Olympus, Athena rightfully represents both intelligence and strategy (Grant, Hazel 83). Symbols that identify with the goddess include the owl for wisdom and the olive branch for peace (Athena or Minerva. 1).
Since Aphrodite had the magic girdle and was so beautiful, all of the gods fell in love with her. & nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp; All of the goddesses were jealous of Aphrodite because all of the gods loved her instead of the other goddesses. Because of this, Zeus arranged a marriage for her with Hephaestus, the lame smith-god.5 Aphrodite didn't really mind this marriage arrangement. though, because she thought Hephaestus would never notice her having marital affairs. Hephaestus knew nothing of deception until, one night, he caught his wife and Ares, the god of war, making love at Ares' home. Hephaestus went back to his home very angry.7 Hephaestus was so angry that he decided to get revenge on Aphrodite by literally catching the while they were making love.
Every culture has some form of higher being, to be a model for their behaviour, as well as to look up to. In Greek times, these were the gods and goddesses who made their home on Mount Olympus. Women identified with the goddesses because they shared some feminine attributes. Goddesses were a “symbol of motherhood and fertility, but also of strength, wisdom, caring, nuturing, temperance, chastity, cunning, trickery, jealousy, and lasciviousness” (Clarke, 1999). However, not all of the goddesses possessed all of these attributes. The goddess Aphrodite, for instance, was not nurturing, nor was she very caring.
She places in people the desire to have sexual relations and causes fear in men of the power of seduction by women. Her marriage to her husband was ignored as she had affairs with immortal and mortal men. Her infidelity in her marriage places her on the side with Greek men, rather than Greek women because only Greek men were able to cheat on their wives; not the other way around. In conclusion, the three important rules discussed in this paper that Greek women were required to obey, can be seen in the myths of the goddesses Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite. Whether or not the Greek goddesses obeyed or did not obey these rules, their importance to the Greek culture is ever strong.

Menelaos would not give up Helen without a fight. But when Paris heres the threat of Menelaos, to fight a duel to find out who will take possession of Helen, Paris acts like a coward at first, suddenly overcome by fear. Paris hides among his fellow Trojans to escape his fate.
In book 3 of the Iliad, Paris and Meleanus engaged in a duel meant to determine the outcome of the Trojan war. If Meleanus defeated Paris, Helen would be returned to him and Troy would surrender. If Paris were to defeat Meleanus, Helen would remain his and the Argives would return home in defeat. The battle was left unfinished as Aphrodite intervened and took Paris from the battle grounds before Melanus had a chance to strike a finishing blow.
Paris betraying the Trojans because he would not give up Helen which made the Trojans keep fighting is an example of love causing betrayal. Many say that Paris is just being selfish for doing this because he incited a war. Helen was Menelaus’ wife so that made him extremely mad and that is what started the war. Some people even believe that was his strategy. If that is true, it was not very smart and made him look like a dolt.
Aphrodite leg is creating a V shape. Hera seems to be modeled after Aphrodite of Knidos, with her hand somewhat modestly place to cover the female part and her body shape is also quite similar too Aphrodite of Knidos. Athena on the other hand, is giving the audience her full back. Her body creates “s” shape with gives a sense of motion. All four females depicted in the painting have that ideal female body congruent with Greek ideal at that time, 0.7 waists to hip ratio, unfit, non-muscular body. Same can be said with all the males depicted in the painting, they all adhere to the male ideal body; they are all extremely muscular and ripped, ready to protect their town and women, even Eros, a child has an extremely muscular body. Paris is seen horizontally extending his arm towards to Aphrodite granting her the apple, show casing every arm muscle just like in Discus Thrower, as if the artist just capture the exact moment of motion. There is an implied line, directing the viewer’s eyes towards the focal point, Aphrodite and Paris. All the character’s eye direction in the painting is going towards Paris choice of giving the apple to Aphrodite instead of choosing to give it to Hera or Athena. Furthermore, a dog, next to Paris, is seen horizontally lying down on the floor, which according to Greek culture, dogs were the protectors, they are calm, loyal and devoted to their masters. The viewer based on location and proximity of the dog to Paris can conclude that he will protect Paris from harm, foreshadowing the Trojan War, which Paris escapes alive.
