Medieval Germany used the ideas of western civilization in their culture, and continued to use it throughout their history, influencing others.
The Carolingian Empire was the dynasty at the start of the 800s when Charlemagne was named emperor by the pope. After the death of Charlemagne’s son, Louis I, the Treaty of Verdun was made and split up the empire into three parts with three different rulers, which later weakened the empire. The next dynasty, the Saxon dynasty, is when a monarchy was gradually formed though the three kings Conrad I, Henry I, and Otto I, though they did expand the empire. During this dynasty, the empire was given its name, the Holy Roman Empire, which was later on bad for the empire. The Salian dynasty came next, and early on had a good relationship with the Church, but was later broken in a fight between Pope Gregory VII and King Henry IV over investiture, which sparked a long term rivalry between pope and king.
The Carolingian dynasty had most change into Western Civilization, and this was shown mostly through their arts. The Carolingians really brought together traditional Roman and Latin with the new, …show more content…

The cathedrals built, and mostly everything built, was mainly religious. Many of the heroic poetry written at this time were obviously stories of men in the past but some had Christianity put into it. Christianity was put into stories written by the pagan Germans. As the Germans were starting to become open to converting they started to spread it. At the time of Louis I the Heliant was written. It was written to bring the story of Christ’s life to the people that did not speak Latin. The gospels were also adapted to the German tradition in poetry, and the half pagan environment they had. The poems they wrote them in was a mixture of plenty of different writing styles. Another narrative of Christ’s life is the Liber Evangelorium, which reflects the ideas of both Latin and Christian
