You most likely know Martin Luther King Jr, maybe you learned about him in elementary school, history class, middle school, or even in books you’ve read. The reason why you learn about him is because he made an astounding impact on our history through his courageous acts. He made himself a legacy by standing out, making himself the face of the modern-day African American rights movement, therefore making himself a major target. This takes courage, he said. He stood his ground, but made sure everything under his control was peaceful, even when people were not peaceful towards him. He was very courageous and he out shined many activists with his courage and determination. He was terrorised for his courageous act of making himself the face of the movement. “Martin Luther King, Jr., became a national symbol; armed with the doctrine of nonviolence, he earned distinction as the leader of the Montgomery Bus Boycott in Alabama who successfully took on segregation in the South.” (Historic) “King was elected the MIA's first president.” (Black) “He became the official spokesman for the boycott. Subsequently, King’s house was bombed.” (Legacy) All of these quotes demonstrate the outstanding leadership shown by Martin Luther King Jr. He appointed himself the face of the boycotts, not because he was necessarily a better leader necessarily, but because he was the one who was the most courageous. He was willing to ‘publish’ this boycott and put his name and face as the cover, so if anyone wanted to be against the boycott they would be against him. This takes courage, he said. He was the one who had their house bombed, because he was the face of the “issue” people saw. If you are mad about a law being passed, would you get mad at the person who wrote the law, or would you be mad at the President who signed it? Most of you would say the President, which is what Martin Luther King Jr.
