Germany was in dire straits during the early 1930s; with the Great Depression affecting the economy and millions unemployed. Germany lacked trust in the Weimar Republic, as they were failing. Before the Kaiser fled to Holland, the nation was in order. The Kaiser valued the German military with passion, as the German people did. And direction from the Kaiser, kept things in line. A democracy allowed for more freedom and rights. But, the German people needed a strong leader that could take all responsibilities on. World War One (WWI) left psychological effects on the the German people. Not only was the nation left to struggle, their pride was weak, also. The 24th of October, 1929 marks the day the Wall Street stock market crashed causing a high rate of unemployment. The years following were grim for the German people. Consumer spending and investment fell drastically over time. Failing companies had to cut off workers as there were declines in industrial output. In 1928, Hitler predicted that there would be an economic disaster, however, people saw him as a fool. Once the hit worldwide, Hitler clung to his political ideology even more so. He saw the economic depression as a chance to implement his ideas more strongly. The Nazi Party needed to gain popularity and support from the German people. Hitler addressed his economic policies to Germany. He conveyed his speeches in regards to exactly what they needed in the hopeless time. The economic depression was a struggle for all of Germany, many people were unemployed and resources were of limited supply. One economic policy included; employment. In the Third Reich (which was intended to last a thousand years) education served to brainwash students with Nazis worldview; National Socialists. Hitler's facet of racism meant Jewish teachers were removed from the school system, as well as those considered “politically unreliable”. The remaining teachers joined the National Socialist Teachers League. And by 1936, 97 percent of public school teachers had joined. Hitler aimed to create students that were racist, obedient and ready to sacrifice themselves for himself and Germany. Textbooks were designed that taught students to show love towards Hitler and respect, as well as obey; state authority, racism, militarism and anti semitism. He strongly enforced his political ideologies into the next generation. Hitler alternated two programs created in 1930; Hitler Youth and League of German Girls. These two programs allowed the Nazis to configure the beliefs, thoughts and actions of youth in Germany. And indoctrinate his political ideologies. They followed the Nazism educational scheme to enfore this. Hitler Youth aimed to combine boys into the nations Nazi community and to prepare them to be soldiers in the military or later, in the paramilitary; Schutzstaffel (S.S).
