How Car Pollution Effects Our Environment

712 Words2 Pages

Car pollution is a major problem in our ecosystem and everyday lives. Car pollution not only affects crops, plants, tress and many other resources, but it also causes human health risks. Many problems are caused by car pollution; unfortunately, it is something that happens every day. Car pollution could be reduced in many ways. But can a few people prevent car pollution? No. Everyone would have to join in, in some way. The problem of car pollution is that it affects not only our environment, but it affects human health and the ozone layer, as well. For example, car pollution affects the environment by greenhouse gases which are the main pollutants that enter the atmosphere from a car. Greenhouse gases affect the ozone layer because they are the main pollutants that enter the atmosphere from cars and trucks. Greenhouse gases are made of pollutants, such as carbon dioxide. “They are over one-fifth of the United States global warming pollutants.” (ucsusa)McHugh 2 Car pollution has many causes and its effects. The main causes of car pollution is because of people failing to carpool, combine errands into one trip, take more public transportation, or possibly even shop by phone. Easier ways can always be either walking or biking, but not everyone likes to do those things. So when more cars than are needed are driven, they put many more kinds of pollutants that aren’t needed in our atmosphere. Cars let off many kinds of pollutants, such as “particulate matter, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, hazardous air pollutants, and greenhouse gases.” (ucsusa). All of these pollutants have their own effects on the environment or human health, some are minor and some are major. Particulate matter ... ... middle of paper ... ...o not only us but our crops, and plants. Greenhouse gases are a major part of the problem in the atmosphere. This gas enters our food chain, causing the meat to be unhealthy for humans to eat. Particulate matter, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, McHugh 4 sulfur oxide, hazardous air pollutants, and greenhouse gases are all the substances that are emitted into our atmosphere from a car exhaust. Solutions to this problem come as easy as walking or biking. Simple, right? But not everyone is willing to take that effort to help prevent car pollution.
