As humans, we like to take the path with least resistance. Since 1807, the year of the first car made, we have not looked back. People rely on vehicles more than anything these days. Manufactory companies of vehicles are breaking records each year with high production. A vehicle can be used in many different ways: commuting to work, transporting goods, helping win the war, and for pleasure. People’s productivity drops significantly if their vehicle is constantly and consistently out of service. Even though vehicles are not as reliable and many spend time getting fixed, the streets are still jam-packed. Vehicles are the leaders in pollution and it affects different aspects like human health and the environment. …show more content…
A few ways people are affected due to pollution is: lung disease, cardiac problems, and diabetes. Most of the harm is caused during heavy traffic while the vehicles are close to each other. Gasses escaping from the exhaust are sucked by the other vehicles a/c or heating system. That air is then pulled into the vehicle and inhaled. Vehicle pollution not only affects human lives, but also the environment. When pollution is in the air, it creates an acidic compound that turns into rainwater, which falls on vegetation, fish, and other animals. People are consumers of this affected food source that leads to health issues. Vehicles were made to help us in our everyday commute. Some parts of the country require more vehicles on the road than others. Overuse of vehicles, especially in a more compact area can affect the lives of humans, animals and the environment. Rush hour traffic affects the lungs of drivers and pedestrians nearby. There are many pros and cons that vehicles have to offer, but the bottom line is vehicles are here to helps us achieve our daily goal quicker and more efficient no matter the
The simple car that was easy to fix with some simple tools have now become as complex as a supercomputer on wheels. Most people today have decided that automobiles of today are too complicated and just send their cars to a professional for repairs. As of January 2013, the average age of a vehicle operating on the roads today is 11.4 years old. (Associated Press, 2013). People are holding on to their cars a lot longer than in the past. Although, some claim that it is because today’s cars last longer. There is no doubt that today’s economy is also playing a part in the public’s reluctance to part with their older vehicles. However, cars will always need repairs.
The automaker Chevrolet has experienced much technological change in the past 104 years. Although it, Chevrolet, is a French name, it is an American car company. It was primarily founded by William C, Durant, along with Louis Chevrolet, on November 3, 1911. It wasn’t until six years of existence that it became part of the Automotive Division at General Motors, otherwise known as GM. Durant had previously tried to buy out Ford and failed. This caused him to resort to co-founding Chevrolet. The first car sold by the company commonly called Chevy was the Classic Six, at the price of 2,500 dollars. Chevy started producing these vehicles in 1912-1913. The car’s value may seem like pocket change but that is the common day equivalent of roughly 57,000

In the July 1997 issue of Commentary, James Q. Wilson challenges the consensus among academia’s finest regarding the automobile in his bold article, Cars and Their Enemies. Directed towards the general public, his article discredits many of the supposed negatives of the automobile raised by experts, proves that the personal car is thriving and will continue to thrive because it meets individual preference over other means of transportation, as well as presents solutions to the social costs of cars. Wilson emphasizes that no matter what is said and done in eliminating the social costs of the automobile, experts are not going to stop campaigning against it.
Automobiles play an essential role in American society. As if being the major means of transportation was not impressive enough, automotives can be seen on T.V., in movies, in magazines, and can sometimes be indicative of a person’s wealth and social status. On average, Americans drive nearly 40 miles and drive for just over 50 minutes driving per person per day (http://www.bts.gov). That means a person spends roughly one-sixteenth of a day driving. It would make sense, then, to make such an essential part of society as efficient, cost effective, and clean as possible. However, that is not the case. As the years have passed cars have actually begun to move away from efficiency. Hawken writes, “[The automobile] design process has made cars ever heavier, more complex, and usually costlier. These are all unmistakable signs that automaking has beco...
In this year Henry Ford created the first affordable, combustion engine car called the Model-T. The creation of the Model-T changed the lives of every American. Vehicles were looked at as a way of freedom and excitement. Soon after, every household in America had a car. The demand for vehicles sparked a whole new industry, creating jobs, more revenues and improving the American economy in every way. With so many vehicles on the roads, roads needed to become bigger and better which spawned a nation wide road construction. This also created more jobs and strengthened the economy even further. Since the 1890s, the time when the automotive industry began, the industry has developed rapidly. The industry started its development in the US, which contributed over 90% of the global vehicle production before the Great Depression (Popular
One of the most dangerous environment issues Southern California is facing today is air pollution. This includes the burning of fossil fuels and natural disasters. Los Angeles is one of the most polluted cities in the world, and the most polluted city in the United States. I will research information about the causes, the effects, and the history of air pollution in the Los Angeles. For my research, I have relied mostly on, the school’s database and library, as well as current events.
A lot of scientists like the idea because it is advanced and they say it’s cleaner and safer in many
Air pollution is caused by many things such as car fumes, burning of fossil fuels,
Car pollutants cause immediate and long-term effects on the environment. Car exhausts emit a wide range of gases and solid matter, causing global warming, acid rain, and harming the environment and human health. Engine noise and fuel spills also cause pollution. Cars, trucks and other forms of transportation are the single largest contributor to air pollution in the United States, but car owners can reduce their vehicle's effects on the environment. Car pollution is one of the major causes of global warming. Cars and trucks emit carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, which contribute one-fifth of the United States' total global warming pollution. Greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, which causes worldwide temperatures to rise.
The environmental issue that I’ve chosen is air pollution. Air Pollution is a huge environmental issue not only in the United States but all over the world. I picked this issue because of the affect that it has on our entire world. This is a highly important issue that people should be aware of because of the huge effect it has on practically everyone. In my essay I will address what air pollution is and how it starts, I will talk about which cities have high pollution verses cities with low pollution, what’s being done to change, and the affect it has on humans, animals, and our earth.
Air Pollution is when a poisonous or a harmful substance is released in the air. There are many form of pollution but air is one of them, it only occurs when dust, harmful gases or smoke enters into the atmosphere and makes it hard for species like plants, animals and humans to live in a difficult situation because of the dirty air.Air Pollution is classified in two sections, invisible air pollution and visible air pollution.. Hence any substance that makes it difficult for the living things that need the atmosphere is air pollution.Humans have been undergoing air pollution ever since the industrial revolution. In order to understand the causes of Air pollution, it is divided into divisions. Primary air pollutants and secondary air pollutants:
What is pollution? Pollution is a detrimental enemy to all species that walk on earth. It is a product of mankind carbon foot print on the environment. It consists of chemicals or particles in the air that can harm the health of humans, animals, and plants. Pollution occurs when pollutants contaminate the natural surrounding; which brings about changes that affect our normal lifestyles adversely. Pollutants are the key elements of pollution which are generally waste materials of dissimilar forms. Pollution disturbs our ecosystem and the balance in the environment. With innovation and development in our lives pollution has reached its peaks; giving rise to global warming and human illness. When raw materials, water, energy and other resources
The fast population growth rate of humans means that the necessity for transportation vehicles is also enormously increasing. Studies have shown that in 1999 the worldwide number of vehicles registered was 700 million. From this huge number of vehicles, the US has a large share, which includes 200 million cars and light trucks. The number of cars worldwide also grew three times faster
