The Houston Police Department is currently investigating numerous car break-ins that have occurred throughout the Sunnyside area in recent weeks. Many of the acts are believed to have been committed by a group specifically targeting commercial buildings and parking lots near Soul NU barbershop. The thieves usually entry the vehicles are generally made by breaking a window and are specifically looking for driver’s licenses, credit cards, and checkbooks.
Soul NU barbershop is working closely with the Houston Police Department and local community leaders and will be installing security cameras in their parking lot area in hopes of deterring theft. Police are asking the community to minimize the amount of sensitive information you keep in your
car, such as Social Security cards, IDs, health care cards, etc. Each of these become significant liabilities to victims and assets to criminals. If you have any information concerning these investigation, Houston Police Department are asking the community to contact Detective Harry Callahan at (832) 555-7613. This would be pitched to News and Radio stations because someone committing crimes in the Houston area affects all communities, and I believe that it would be important to reach all communities in the area. Facebook and Twitter, because they have a large Millennial segment and Facebook and Twitter are the two main platforms they use to get their news every day.

There has been many controversies in many patrol stations here at the Houston Police Department regarding a 10 hours shift called “power shift”. When I first start off my career as a patrolman, I had the opportunity to either choose an 8 hour or 10 hour shift. The difference between those two shifts are the days off. For instance, an officer who works an 8 hour shift will have a two days weekend, and officers who works a 10 hour shift will have a three day weekend. Some supervisors believe having power shifts is an advantage because it overlaps all three shifts (e.g. days, evenings, nights), in terms of relieving officers during shift change. Some officers hate getting dispatched to a late call especially when their shift ends in about 15 minutes. Power shift officers will pick up the slack and relief 8 hour shift officers so they can end their tour of duty. Power shifts will also save divisions money.

The Baltimore City police have faced a myriad of problems in the last year. The riots following the Freddie Gray arrest were reported around the country and created a situation where the Governor was forced to call in the National Guard to protect the city. Community leaders report that African American’s are stopped, searched and arrested at a far greater number than Caucasian’s. The Baltimore city police are at an impasse with the community at this time, it is up to the city leaders and the police officials to come up with some real solutions to the issues that can no longer be ignored.
Chapter 10 was a good read, the role organizational structure plays within an organization of all sizes is very important. The stories and organizational charts used in this chapter was interesting and informative. I like how the author used the organizational structure for U.S. Metropolitan Police Department, Washington D.C. to show readers the importance of organizational structure when it comes to following commands within a major organization that deals with homeland security. Following, September 11, 2011 terrorist attack, homeland security and MPD was forced to make changes in the organizational structural. Because the order of communication between the national security and the police department wasn’t communicated inefficiently between
As a newly promoted Lieutenant in charge of jail operations in the Houston Police Department (HPD), there are several critical issues regarding the jail environment that require immediate attention such as, inadequate conditions of confinement, health care, security measures, and sexual misconduct between correctional officers and inmates. The aforementioned issues are a controversial topic all across the U.S. and it usually attracts media attention and creates negative publicity towards the Department of Corrections. A lieutenant of jail operations is responsible for his or he shift and oversees multiple areas of the jail facility. Responsibilities of a jail lieutenant includes but is not limited to the following: (1) coordinate shift activities;
Scott Robinson moved from Houston to Cincinnati in 2007. Before leaving, Mr. Robinson sold his Hyundai Santa Fe to a used car dealer in Rosenberg, Texas. Due to clerical errors at the dealer, Scott's car was sold with his license plates still attached to the vehicle. The new owner of the vehicle ran a stoplight and when the license plate was read, Mr. Robinson's information was pulled up. When he finally received his ticket, it was too late for him to protest the charges even when providing proof of sale for the vehicle.(Geor...
Organization is the most important part of any business. In the business of criminal justice, organization is of the highest importance. Every day, hour, and minute must be accounted for, and at the same time all bases must be covered. This brings up a problem when trying to run a precinct that employs a lot of police officers. The Chicago Police Department is the principal law enforcement agency of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States, under the jurisdiction of the Mayor of Chicago. It is the second largest local law enforcement agency in the United States after the New York City Police Department. Chicago’s community policing effort is more extensive and organized than other jurisdictions.
Ever since the start of using courts, the main goal of it was to deliver a fair environment where the accused could defend themselves and show the jurors that he/ she did not commit the crime that they were accused of. Sometimes this system fails us and they sentence an innocent man to jail for something they didn’t commit. The activity that I observed in the field of criminal justice was I went to the boulder court house and watched one of the cases that’s was happening that day. As I sat there watching I saw the defendant’s lawyer trying to convince the jurors that his client was innocent, I thought to myself: how can we improve the court room. Sometimes we see some cases where the criminal can be let go because of not a lot of evidence like Casey Anthony. We also might see that the case might be unfair to person being convicted of a crime that they didn’t do. An example of this is the jurors have some past experience with a person of that race and they don’t like them or they already come with a decision before they even hear the evidence found. We might also see a case where the jurors decide that the accuser is innocent even though there’s evidence that proves otherwise. The main point is how we can make

Ethics is “a branch of philosophy concerned with the study of questions of right and wrong and how we ought to live” (Banks, 2013). Also it involves making moral judgments about what is right and or wrong, good or bad. In the process of everyday life, moral rules are desirable, not because they express absolute truth, but because they are generally reliable guides for normal circumstances. Ethics or moral conduct, are of major importance in the criminal justice field today. If the police force condoned unethical behavior, there would be very little, if any, justice being served. A system of rules and principles helps to guide in making difficult decisions when moral issues arise. Ethics has been shown to be a central component in decisions involving ethical dilemmas. It is “concerned with standards of conduct and with “how I ought to act”, and standards of conduct may vary among different societies” (Banks, 2013). An ethical dilemma arises only when a decision must be made that involves a conflict at the personal, interpersonal, institutional, or societal level or raises issues of moral character. Richard Hare argues that we initially use an intuitive level of moral thinking when we consider ethical dilemma. There are “six steps in analyzing an ethical dilemma and they would be as follow” (NASW, 2014):
The main responsibility of the police is to stop the event of the criminal acts, and when it happens, rapidly establish the culprits and get-together solid confirmation that will affirm the blameworthy and punish the offender through the court (Villiers, 2009). To apply their power, police need to work as stated by the techniques of PACE (Police and Criminal Evidence Act of 1984). Police authorities are the rules for the police on the best way to apply the law to capture someone, or how to treat some individual when suspecting a criminal conduct. However police authorities are likewise a shield for the suspect, guaranteeing that the individual halted or captured by the police is dealt good and there is no abuse of human rights. The British police have the authorities presented by the legislature. The primary obligations of the cops is to ensure individuals and property, support open request, stop individuals violating the law and the capture them, and helping the individuals in need for help and furnishing them with data and counsel (Villiers, 2009).
Many people are unaware just how much auto-repair fraud, or “garage fraud” takes place. It can take place anywhere from service stations who may perform light mechanic work, to a Garage which may fix tires, brakes, shocks, or transmissions. People can be taken advantage of in “garage fraud” in many ways. One way this can happen is by an attendant lying about labor, or the actual amount of time he spent on your vehicle. Another method is by huge markups on replacement parts, or cleaning and painting your old part and selling it back to you. Lastly, the attendant may lie about what is actually wrong with your car and charge you for something far more expensive.
Security cameras can be found all over the mall from stores to the food courts to ensure safety. If we go back to six-seven years ago there was a shooting in the Muskogee Oklahoma mall didn’t have those cameras for proof of evidence the man convicted of shooting a child and other people would have a long trial but since they did they had all the proof they needed.
