A common theme for the play Los Vendidos can be achieved and supported through elements of plot, as well as the background of the playwright. The primary aspect in supporting the theme of a play can be through plot elements. Essentially, theme is defined as the general message or lesson the author conveys to the audience, whereas plot is defined as the main events that occur during the sequence of time within a particular play. One common theme identified in Los Vendidos is that things are not always what they appear as. This theme is specifically supported during a particular point in time during the plot known as the climax, or in other words, the turning point in a storyline. One prime example climax supporting the theme begins during the events leading up to the turning point of the the play, where the last model that Honest Sancho is selling is introduced to the secretary as well as the audience. HONEST SANCHO’S Used Mexican Lot and Mexican Curio Shop. Three models are on display in HONEST SANCHO’S shop. To the right, there is a REVOLUCIONARIO, complete with sombrero, carrilleras and carabina 30-30.° At center, on the floor, there is the FARMWORKER, under a broad straw sombrero. At stage left is the PACHUCO, filero° in hand. HONEST SANCHO is moving among his models, dusting them off and preparing for another day of business.
