Why do teachers or professors give students homework? Is it just busy work or is it essential to our educational process? Students kill and stress their self just to finish countless pages of work that just ends up being put into a grade book and then thrown away. Homework should be banned because it’s not a necessity to our educational process or the life of students.
Homework doesnt help students, it hurts them. Students are drilled with work during the school hours and then are giving homework from almost all of their teachers every night. If schools assign less homework, it would benefit both students and teachers alike. Teachers who assign large amounts of homework are only able to spot check homework during the school day. Meaning that many errors are missed, and that the students do not get to see the errors they miss because teachers do not have the time to sit and check homework so that they can explain the errors. The banning of homework would help bring balance back into the lives of students by allowing them to live and enjoy life. There is no reason to give homework because it dumbs a person down. Most people expect for a person to learn a lesson, work on it, and then go home and do work by themselves. It doesn’t work because most students lose the concepts and curriculum that they learn the same day. A student who receives excessive homework "will miss out on active break time essential for learning social skills, proper brain development, and warding off childhood obesity," according to Harris Cooper, Ph. D., a professor of psychology and neuroscience at Duke University. It is vital for homework to be banned, it’ll help save the lives of students, and teacher everywhere.
