Homelessness is a situation that influences the well-being of the community in New Zealand and helping the homeless can be advantageous or disadvantageous. Homelessness can be defined as the condition whereby individuals and families have no home or shelter of their own(1). There are several controversial factors that should be discussed in order to decide whether or not taking more measures for the homeless are beneficial for society. First, by helping the homeless, they could take benefit from it and not try to work harder to have a better life. Secondly, the money that the government has provided for them can be allocated to other sectors. On the other hand, taking more measures for the homeless can improve public health. Lastly, the most …show more content…
According to Krieger and Higgins (2011), due to absence of housing, overcrowding in a shelter and sleeping rough leads the homeless to get respiratory, skin, and infectious diseases (3). Also these diseases are easily spreading to the society because the homeless sleep on the street and there is not enough support that they could access. The solution is to help the homeless by providing them with adequate housing and health care so it would not influence the public health. As a result, it boosts public health which would be beneficial not just for the homeless, but for the government, medical professionals and especially the community. For example, due to increases of action to end homelessness and awareness about standard housing in America, the number of communicable disease has declined rapidly. Therefore, more measurements for the homeless could be advantageous because it improves public …show more content…
There are 41,000 New Zealanders become homeless and this number is continue increases each year. This is because the supply of housing is lower than the demand from the market. So it is involve in changing of house pricing which leads into unaffordable house. The changes would give a huge difference to a low-income family and they might lose their home and ended up sleep in a shelter, car or on the street. It shown that they are not planning to become a homeless, but it happens beyond their control . As it is written in the Declaration of Human Rights (1948) that everyone deserves to live in an adequate housing, so more actions are needed to fullfil one’s right to have a house. This shown that by helping the homeless is crucial because it is been legally approved internationally that house is a standard living. If there is no help that is given to the homeless, it means that one’s basic human right is neglected. Also, Rollke (2017) explains that the responsbility of helping the homeless is an act to maintain basic human right to shelter. Thus, taking more consideration to help the homeless is a duty and one of a ways to respect one’s right as a
...ge stay longer than non-homeless people, so hospitals would get crowded and care would get more expensive, making affordable healthcare prices rise. In order to fix this issue of homelessness, the federal government and state government should allocate resources differently. Since a large number of homeless people have addiction and metal health issues, there should be more money being distributed into rehabilitation programs. The most efficient way to end homelessness is so make housing more affordable. One way to do that is to either, increase the hourly wage to match the current housing prices, or, allocate more resources toward housing subsidies for people. Then when people have homes, society should work with people to get them out of poverty by giving resources to people to get their GED’s, networking opportunities for jobs and creating inclusive communities.
The United States will continue to be a developed country if the numbers of people holding cardboard on the street do not decrease. 1 out of 7 people in U.S suffer from hunger and are forced to sleep in parks, under bridges, in shelters or cars (Hunger and Homelessness 1).Every year, the homeless population grows in United States. People become homeless because of many reasons. Because they are homeless, they have been struggling in every way that human possible can have. In order to get back on their feet, they need help in every way. The homeless population is increasing drastically in society. People who are more fortunate than others should put social status aside and take an action to help homeless people to get back on their feet.
.... The homeless community is a growing problem that only worsens with time. If we don’t make an effort now, to help the most vulnerable among us, then we are only contributing to this problem. With our unsure economy, nothing is guaranteed, so just be considerate for others who are in an inferior situation, because who knows when you might need a hand.

Homelessness is a problem that happens in many different countries around the world. Definitions of homelessness are defined in different meanings by different people. However, the Stewart B. McKinney Act defines a homeless person as “ one who lacks a fixed permanent nighttime residence or whose nighttime residence is a temporary shelter, welfare hotel, or any public or private place not designed as sleeping accommodations for human beings” (McNamara 1025). It is impossible to find out exactly the number of homeless; however, the researchers can do a study to estimate that number. Based on different statistics from different researchers, the homeless population in America has been increasing as “an alarming rate” (Markos and Lima). Therefore, even though America is one of the most powerful countries in the world, homelessness, which has many common causes, has always been a big problem in society.
Homelessness in the United States has been an important subject that the government needs to turn its attention to. There has been announced in the news that the number of the homeless people in many major cities in the United States has been increasing enormously. According to United States Interagency Council on Homelessness reported that there was an estimation of 83,170 individuals have experienced chronic homelessness on the streets of the United States’ streets and shelters on only a single night of January 2015, which is a small decrease of only 1% from the previous year (People Experiencing Chronic Homelessness, n.d.). The United States must consider this subject that most of the people underestimate it and not pay attention
As a result, homelessness can be decrease by educating the public about the problem, help the homeless by teaching them financial management skill and build more houses that is affordable, as homeless are human just like us. We should help them to make sure that they can overcome these obstacles and be able to make changes in their life by walking away from
...em to come to the same general conclusion: public health programs for the homeless are not as effective as they could be. Whether it is not providing full attention in the type of service that is provided or a lack of outreach by the programs, a majority of people are not receiving the care they need. Instead of criticizing homeless people for crowding the emergency rooms consider the fact that they typically do not have an easily accessible alternative for medical care. “Systems like the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program have spent the past decades building a public health program that now has helped find insurance for 76% of patients who come through” (Oppenheimer et al., 2010, p.1401). It is important that cities all across the country begin programs that will improve and eventually completely eliminate the health care inaccessibility for the homeless.
Furthermore, as dominant discourse states that homelessness is due to individual failure much of the middle class and working poor criminalize individuals who are living on the streets. Therefore, it is crucial to recognize that in most cases homelessness is not the fault of the individual and directly related to the structural issues in society which it can then target any individual who may be in an economic

Many people debate on weather homeless people should receive guidance or just be abandoned. Do homeless people deserve our service and to be supported, or are they just lazy individuals trying to take advantage of people? Homelessness is a growing dispute in cities. It has became an extensive problem for the community. Homelessness can not and should not be ignored. The number of homeless people in the United States is quickly growing. It seems like no one cares to help them. Even our heroes like police officers show no sympathy towards the homeless. “Homeless people appeared on the streets of Bucharest in 1990. Since then, their number and the problems created by this phenomenon have steadily increased in all major
Homelessness is all our responsibility. Waking every morning in a warm bed in a secure house for some Australians is only a dream. Every day more and more people are becoming or are at risk of becoming homeless as the global economy crumbles away and monetary resources become harder to find. What is homelessness: the Australian Government Department of Health (2005) defines homelessness as a person who is without a conventional home. Homeless Australians have become disconnected from family and friend and has few, if any resource and very little prospect of achieving financial independence without Government assistant. This assessment will talk about Australia’s history with homelessness, it will go onto to talk about the Government’s role in preventing homelessness and the AASW view on the current social problem. An example of how human service delivery organisation are impacted by current political and society’s view. Homelessness has a face and now more than ever society must ensure that the Government fulfils promise made to all of its citizens.
Homelessness is an issue that requires all citizens’ and sectors’ (private and public) help to decrease or eradicate homelessness entirely (109-110). Many factors contribute to a households’ homelessness status but decades of research have shown that the primary cause of homelessness is the lack of ability to pay for housing (113). The homelessness prevention strategy (financial assistance) presented in my source
Many homeless people do not have access to healthcare and they go many years without seeing a doctor. According to Fitzpatrick, “there is a clear and defined need for healthcare for homeless people and their families.” She is right, it todays society homelessness is just ignored by many people and has became a serious problem. Most of society does not know about the organizations that help the homeless. For example, Fitapatrick believes in a organization called The Opening Doors Project it is a group of nurses and other health professionals that look at substance abuse within the homeless community. Due to not seeing a doctor and the common knowledge of homeless people abusing drugs and alcohol, “homeless people can have complex and multiple health problems” (Who quoted it). Not everyone agrees with Fitzpatrick, “I am convinced that handouts are basically wrongheaded,” says Sherman. She believes giving anything to the homeless will not help change the homeless persons situation (Sherman). Sherman's advice does not make sence, ignoring the problem will not help either and without proper medical care there is no way to improve homeless health which will cause many people to die a unessary death. According to Hopper, “generative forces behind widespread homelessness runs deep and their correction will req...
This great nation of awesome power and abundant resources is losing the battle against homelessness. The casualties can be seen on the street corners of every city in American holding an ?I will work for food? sign. Homeless shelters and rescue missions are at full capacity. There is no room at the inn for the nation?s indigent. Anyone who has studied this issue understands that homelessness is a complex problem. Communities continue to struggle with this socio-economic problem while attempting to understand its causes and implement solutions. The public and private sectors of this country are making a difference in the lives of the homeless by addressing the issues of housing, poverty and education.
