If ever afforded the opportunity, I feel it necessary to give back to my community. It’s been a lifelong dream to own and operate a homeless shelter. This outreach mission would be named “A New Leaf”. The goal is to empower people out of homelessness and poverty into living wage careers through skilled training, adult basic education, and career development. I am a firm believer that everyone has a responsibility to give back to their community. This is would be my way of giving back and doing my part while allowing others to do so as well. This project would collaborate to provide housing, food, clothing and train clients for job placements. I have envisioned buying an old hotel or a huge house that can be renovated into a dormitory type living facility. I would need approximately $25 million to get started. I would allocate $15 million of this amount of money just for the initial set up for the purchase and renovations of the facility. In addition, the facility would also need to be furnished with bedding, and appliances. I would allocate $5.5 million for that. In order for the business to run as planned, I would also need supplies such as groceries, toiletries, clothing and other necessities at the opening of the business, which $4 million will be set aside for that. Electricity and insurance are additional bills that will need to be addressed with the remaining $500 thousand. After the first year of business, I would solicit major business here in Albany, such as Procter and Gamble, Miller-Coors, and Ex-O-Pack for major contributions. I would ask various churches to be part of a rotation providing daily meals for the clients.
