In Philadelphia there are many problems, like the amount of shooting or the way our sports fans act. That is not the issue at hand; the issue is homeless individuals around Philadelphia. The major parts of the city that house these individuals are very urban parts, which is basically the whole city. Being homeless is not only a problem for the human that is homeless; it takes a toll on people that happen to see it every day. Encountering a homeless person may make a lot go through your head, if you happen to care. You might think that “Wow, I am glad I do not have to live that way” or maybe you are thinking “He has to be faking” or maybe you just do not surrender them your attention. Living in Philadelphia for almost most whole life I have seen a good amount of homeless citizens, they bring this depressing aura when they are around. All I can think about is “Maybe they use to be someone.” When you think “homeless person” the first thing that comes to mind is usually dirty. I can assume that if these individuals had a place to care for themselves, they would not be living this way. If you take a walk around Philadelphia, there will be some areas which make you feel unsafe. With the contribution of homeless people walking around just make it see worse to an outsider. Homeless people can make Philadelphia look trashy and disgusting to visitors from other areas; this might be a different atmosphere from where they usually live. When you bring someone to Philadelphia they suddenly get scared. They think everything happening around them will harm them. Therefore this is not the best reputation for a city so called the “City Of Brotherly Love.” Here are some facts about homeless people in Philadelphia. Many of them become homeless due... ... middle of paper ... ...hange the homeless individuals into working ones that can go home to a bed. You might think that the city might be able to do all these things on their own, which they most likely can, but it is easier with support from the peers of these individuals. The city can implement an assistance program, so the city itself will be better overall respected. The city can try and do whatever is needed but they cannot do it alone. The nickname the gave our city many years ago still is carried with us today, now is the time to actually prove that we can still hold the title “The City Of Brotherly Love.” We need to remove all the homeless individuals in Philadelphia and make sure they are doing something with their lives, whether it is going to work at McDonalds or going back to college they need help in getting there. When people see the homeless, they are quick to assume whether the homeless are where they’re at because of drugs, or not being in a stable environment. However, homeless people rarely receive an opportunity to tell their life stories or even have the chance to explain how they ended up in the situations they are in. Homelessness in Boston has persisted and increased for decades. Though there have been efforts to combating the issues of homelessness and housing, it appears that there is no solution in sight. Winter have become nightmares for most of the homeless population in Boston. Weather ranges from thirty degrees down to ten, sometimes single numbers. Weather that is below freezing are moments where people like myself, need to be in warm places. Kourtney McLean is a woman financially and emotionally not stable enough to take care of herself. Ms. McLean has been living on the streets for almost all her life --homeless and struggling to get on her
Have you ever noticed that while you’re driving around Austin that the homeless have become a common casualty to exhibit. I know the first thing that comes to mind is, “How ridiculous, why don’t they just get a job!”It perfectly acceptable to wonder, whether your money would go towards feeding a starving stomach or a drug addiction, therefore your generosity would be put to better use through a charity foundation or simply by offering a meal. The reality is that the majority of people who are homeless are unable to work due to certain disabilities. In other words, the best response is compassion. There is only so far we can do as a community, the major change has to come from a superior source, which is why I propose that the City of Austin
The homeless population is growing in America. There are more and more Americans living in boxes, sleeping on park benches and panhandling on the streets each day. These people tend to make us, the non-homeless, feel uncomfortable and unsafe. They are also placing increasing stress on the nation's economy. In short, the homeless are a burden on the rest of society.
Homelessness in America has always been an issue. There have been plans to help solve this issue in San Antonio, Texas, but it does cost local taxpayers millions. It is a tricky situation to solve because some people are innocent and have no other solution to help solve their necessitous situation. Although many people who are impoverished may not be bad, we should eradicate the chronically homeless because many of them are without a roof for their decisions or blameful addictions they can not control and is costing San Antonio’s taxpayers millions.
Homelessness in the United States has been an important subject that the government needs to turn its attention to. There has been announced in the news that the number of the homeless people in many major cities in the United States has been increasing enormously. According to United States Interagency Council on Homelessness reported that there was an estimation of 83,170 individuals have experienced chronic homelessness on the streets of the United States’ streets and shelters on only a single night of January 2015, which is a small decrease of only 1% from the previous year (People Experiencing Chronic Homelessness, n.d.). The United States must consider this subject that most of the people underestimate it and not pay attention
There are many other cases of why the homeless are homeless like domestic violence, mental illness, addictions, and unaffordable health care. Homelessness is a problem which has been caused by many different aspects but mainly money because of massive unemployment rates. A hidden aspect to homelessness that we may not think of is ...
Take a drive down town and the problem will be apparent, take a look to the left and there one stands, take a look to the right and there’s another. Homelessness is a term used to define a person who does not have a home to go to at the end of the day. Homelessness does not discriminate against age, sex or gender. What is startling to many people is that reasons why so many people succumb to homeless ness in their life; people assume that when someone is homeless it’s because of bad choices that that individual made in their life, which might be true but not for all, “approximately 1 and 5 Phoenix residents live below the poverty line” and that in itself has a lot to do with the current
This paper will explain approaches to resolve the social issue of homelessness in the state of Delaware. It will also explain a few reasons why homelessness should be addressed the correct way to potentially end it. I will describe the correlations of homelessness and health, the crimes involving and against the homeless, and lastly the families subjected to homelessness. A few solutions will be recommended in this paper also to optimistically achieve the goal of assisting the homeless and improving the assistance already given.
One cannot judge the homeless lifestyle if there is no insight. No one can understand the life of poverty and homelessness unless there has been exposure and have lived through that. Homeless children are living in poverty because of mistakes their guardians or parents have made. These children go through unimaginable events in their life. Most of the time, Homeless youth are either abused physically and mentally. They are innocent humans who have to choice but to grow up and live a life they did not choose to live. Children all around the world are living in hunger everyday of their lives. People are not willing to help. Even some law enforcement, who are leaders in the community show no compassion or empathy towards homeless individuals. The people who are depended on for the safety of the community are being ruthless towards homeless people in the community. Homeless people in this case are very vulnerable. Money should not define a person, but it comes to show that money sadly, does to have a tremendous impact on how a person is treated. Veterans coming home from war to live on the streets is unfair and inhumane. People need to step up to give humans the opportunities they
Homelessness is increasing more every year. In fact, according to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, over 640,000 people experience homelessness every night. (Hunger and Homelessness in North America) By definition, the homeless are groups of people that do not have a home. They can be people who are mentally ill, unemployed, veterans, or even children born into unfortunate families. Since they have nowhere to go, the homeless usually live inside abandoned buildings, in the streets, or in makeshift homes, such as a cardboard box or homemade tent. Although some work to find a decent home, many still suffer from depression or are psychically disabled and cannot work. (Overview of Homelessness in America) These people do not choose to be homeless, instead they become homeless due to a series of unfortunate events; namely losing their source of income or becoming homeless by birth. One instance of this occurred in the life of Hazel Washington. Hazel was fleeing an abusive relationship when she moved in with her relative and his girlfriend, but she was not told about their impending eviction. Because of this, her roommates took everything she owned an...
The mindset of the homeless needs to change they need to start thinking ‘hey why don’t I get cleaned up and look for a job!’ The homeless are also part of our community and us as a community need to Do Something! I am Just a 9th Grader stating my issue but you’re the adults ,the adults that can make things happen; whether a petition needs to be signed or a picket put up for the city to do something ,we need to do something to change the human lives living on the streets .
Should the government help the homeless? Municipal governments should provide subsidized housing for their homeless residents. This could help the homeless population of Louisburg. By providing the homeless with an address that gives them the opportunity to get a job, get back on their feet, and also give them a safe place to stay while beginning a new life. Providing for the homeless should not be a charity for show but, for the moral support of human beings. Supporting the homeless does not mean we are encouraging them. Just because some are is homeless doesn’t mean they are drug addicts or just lazy. Many homeless didn’t ask for what they got in the end, whether it be death by starvation or being beaten to death. Death of the homeless could be prevented if the municipal government would provide a safe place for the homeless to go. The homeless people are PEOPLE too. The true measure of a society is how it treats its most vulnerable members. Therefore, the government should be doing much more than it is for the homeless population. They need help and understanding, and they need it from their government.
Many people underestimate homeless people because of their environment. Because someone is less fortunate; people judge, they judge based on appearance or how they act. Homeless people are usually the most kind and generous people, it’s just nobody takes the time to see that. Everyday more and more homeless people get ignored and pushed aside because of the way the look or even communicate with others. If people took into consideration, if they were in that situation or environment as they were, it would change their outlook on them.
Homelessness is everywhere, it is not a new trend and is a growing problem. Many people ask themselves should I help the homeless or not; it is easier to just ignore the problem than to give a helping hand. Every person needs help at one point or another in their life and homeless people should be no different. Assisting the homeless with healthcare, housing, and childcare are ways people are able to and should help the homeless.
This great nation of awesome power and abundant resources is losing the battle against homelessness. The casualties can be seen on the street corners of every city in American holding an ?I will work for food? sign. Homeless shelters and rescue missions are at full capacity. There is no room at the inn for the nation?s indigent. Anyone who has studied this issue understands that homelessness is a complex problem. Communities continue to struggle with this socio-economic problem while attempting to understand its causes and implement solutions. The public and private sectors of this country are making a difference in the lives of the homeless by addressing the issues of housing, poverty and education.
