Philosophy
A person’s philosophy defines who they are and how they live their life. Philosophy is a person’s basic belief system and their outlook on life. A Christian’s philosophy is based upon truth found only in the Bible. The Bible lays out a clear picture on how God wants Christians to live and also a clear path of salvation for unbelievers. A Christian’s philosophy has many different facets based upon what they believe. The Bible is the foundation of the Christian religion. Christians believe it is inerrant and they follow what it says because it is God’s way of speaking to His people. God’s word says that “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalms 119:105 NKJV) Furthermore, it is God’s way of revealing His character

Since it is called a Spirit many people get confused as to if the Spirit possesses qualities of a person. Since God is described as a person, and the Spirit is a part of the Trinity, it has qualities of God and therefore has qualities of a person (Enns 68). Since it is a person, the spirit has knowledge, emotions, and a will. The Bible mentions the Spirit's mind in Romans 8:27 which says, “And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth that is the mind of the Spirit” (KJV). The spirit has emotions and it says in the Bible that Christians can grieve the spirit (Enns 68). It also distributes the Christians spiritual gifts “as he wills” (Enns 68). The study of the Holy Spirit is called Pneumatology. It comes from the Greek word “Pneuma” which is translated to air. It is a neuter gender word which means the Spirit is not described as masculine or feminine (Enns 68). The spirit is a person, so it works in Christians when they accept …show more content…
It gives the Christian comfort when he needs it (“What Does the Holy Spirit Do?”). The Spirit also helps the Christian to recall things that he has learned whether he is witnessing to another person or when he is tempted to sin. In the Bible it talks about the “fruits of the Spirit”. When a person becomes a Christian and the Holy Spirit lives in them, other Christians or even unsaved people can tell because they possess qualities like love, joy, peace, and many other attributes that the Spirit gives them (“What does the Holy Spirit Do?”). But the Spirit is not the only one that has to do work when it comes and lives in the Christian. The person must grow in their walk, which the Spirit aids, but they have to pray, read their Bible, and build a real relationship with God. The Holy Spirit teaches followers of Jesus and helps them grow, but they must be committed to work too.
The Holy Spirit plays a major role in the Christian life. The Spirit not only teaches and works for the Christian, but people can tell when the Spirit is actually in a person. It can distinguish if a person is a genuine Christian or not. If the Christians did not have the Holy Spirit, the Christian walk and life would be impossible. The Bible reveals the Trinity, and it also reveals the problem, sin, and the solution,
In the film “The Holy Ghost People,” right away we get individual accounts of what the “Holy Spirit” is to certain individuals. One woman says the Holy Ghost guides her and keeps her going. The people are very intense about their beliefs, which comes from the religion Pentecostalism, which has a hyper focus on personal experience with God and baptism with the Holy Spirit. We see them in their church, we hear the sermon, and see the ritualistic dances and the way the prayer overcomes them, and causes seizure like motions. We see and hear the prayers for the healing of one woman’s eyesight, and another woman’s back pain. One man, seemingly the pastor, says that “if God is not doing what they ask, people aren’t believing hard enough.” Later we get an account from a woman of how she was nursed back to health as a little girl brought her nutrients, and she believes it was
...nity. The Holy Spirit allows human beings to become closer to God, and the relationship between the Father and the Son. After writing about both the Trinity and Salvation, I have learned that they are immensely interconnected. The Trinity allows human beings to find Salvation. All in all, the Trinity is not three separate parts, but one part with three different essences.
The Spirit helps us implore (Romans 8:26-27). He gives us new life (John 3:3-6). He is our consoler, and he helps us comprehend God's statement (John 14:26). He lifts up Christ (John 15:26). He convicts us of wrongdoing (John 16:7-11). He helps us to live holy lives (Romans 15:16). He gives us love, happiness, peace, tolerance, thoughtfulness, goodness, faithfulness, tenderness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). He helps us share our confidence (Acts 1:8). What's more, he lives inside us (Romans
Our comforter, teacher, and guide, the Holy Spirit is all these things and more. The Spirit convicts men of their sin and brings them new life. Before examining His ministry, we must first learn to view the Spirit as a person rather than a power. He has a mind, will, and emotions. In I Corinthians 2:10, the Bible states that the Spirit "…searches all things, yes, the deep things of God." For someone to search and explore another's thoughts, he must himself possess a mind. Jesus says that the Spirit will come to convict mankind of sin (John 16:8). This demonstrates His will. Acts 15:28 says, "…for it seemed good to the Holy Spirit…" Therefore He has the capability to determine between good and bad. He has a will and emotions.
One of the most prevalent ways that God is active in the world today is in the work of the Holy Spirit. While the Spirit functions at a massive scale restraining sin (2 Thess. 2:6-8), the Christian also experiences direct interaction at a personal level through the process of being born again, indwelt, baptized into the body of Christ, and sealed with the Spirit. This private interaction typical...
"I put my mind on Christ and try to listen and obey the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:5), the Holy Spirit will give me life and peace (Romans 8:6). If a man is a Christian, he has the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:9). His spirit has been made alive (Romans 8:10) The Holy Spirit is giving life back to his body, bringing it back from the deadness of sin (Romans 8:11) and bring abundant new life in Christ."(Graham)
For Christians it is impossible to comprehend all of God’s mysteries, all of God’s plans, all of God’s desires, abilities, mercies, and blessings. It’s impossible to comprehend all of God. This is the price they pay for serving a divine God of infinitive complexity. Even when he spells it out for them, as he did with creating the bible, the human mind is incapable of understanding how God works. Since people are simple minded and selfish beings, debates over what God is trying to tell them in scripture can be formed, and can get to the point where these debates spilt the Christian churches. The question of whether or not the gifts of the holy spirit still has an active role in the modern day churches is one that has been greatly argued among the believers. Although many ideas have been presented on the matter, three major viewpoints have been formed; Cessationism, Continuationism, and an open but cautious view. Whether or not the gifts of the spirit are still part of the Christian chu...
Many Christians in the body of Christ are unclear and don’t really understand the Holy Spirit who is the third person in the God head. The author, Charles C. Ryrie, does an excellent job in not only explaining from the Holy Bible who the Holy Spirit is, but also discusses His ministry and work. Ryrie also focuses on the Holy Spirit’s role in creation and shows His intricate and active involvement throughout the Old and New Testaments. This book recognizes questions that a Christian may have and is an excellent teaching resource. Mr. Ryrie does an excellent job in teaching about the person of the Holy Spirit according to scripture.
I believe that the Bible is the holy word which was revealed for the purpose that man can know God and His will. Man is spiritual dead and cannot know anything, God has to revealed himself through His word to man (1 Cor. 2:7-11; 2 Peter 1:20-21). The revelation came by supernatural ways which are dreams (Gen. 37:5-9), visions (Gen. 15; Amos 7-9), and direct communication (1 Sam. 3:3-14). The Bible is written revelation, or God’s communication of divine truth to man. The revelation occurs in two forms: general and special. The general revelation is the truths that can be known about God through nature (Ps. 8; 19:1-6). The general revelation cannot bring salvation to man because it only demonstrates the existence of God, but it does not show man way he can be saved (Rom. 2:14-16). Man is without excuse as he suppresses the general revelation of God in his heart, man bears God's wrath and judgment (Rom. 1:18-20). The special revelation is the specific truths that can be known about God through the supernatural way
“The wind blows wherever it please. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” Within the poetic image of wind, the presence of the Holy Spirit is described as something that flows freely and affects everything. This Spirit cannot be contained or restricted. The Holy Spirit is a life giving wind that acts in all of creation, and wherever this divine wind blows something new begins. Furthermore, describing the Spirit as water expounds upon the innate characteristics of this life-giving Spirit.
Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit in John 14:16-17, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him not knows him. Y...
The doctrine of the Holy Spirit begins with examining biblical witness to the work of the Holy Spirit in the history of Israel, as well as the ministry of Jesus, and in the life of the church. During the creation account it was the breath of God that grave life to all creation. The Holy Spirit has been a primate actor sin the beginning of time. While the Spirit was present prior to the ministry of Christ, the New Testament speaks in greater detail of the Spirit because it empowered Jesus. From his conception to the day of Pentecost the Sprit was present and active in the life of Christ and the believers. We see in ...
Luciano Francisco Victor Instructure: Professor Simon Makuru APH 208 Christian Philosophy 28 March 2024 The Importance of Studying Christian Philosophy In today's world, most people are becoming faithless, unspiritual, and amoral, with religions dying and cultures and morals becoming worthless; many church buildings are being converted into bars; others are becoming personal or family businesses; and many church leaders are becoming more corrupt than politicians themselves. As a result, technology is advancing at a rapid pace, with artificial intelligence becoming a new form of spirituality and robots becoming gods of many religions. So, how can Christian Philosophy be of help in these instances of this era?
The Holy Spirit gives us power to make things possible. Jesus said in Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” The power enabled the apostles to heal the sick (3:1-10, 5:15-16, 9:32-35) and raise people from the dead (9:36-43). The power also enabled them to speak the truth boldly (4:1-14, 7:1-53,
It consists of the Old Testament which is primarily based upon the Hebrew Bible. The New Testament deals with first-century Christianity and accompanied the spread of Christianity around the world. The bible is the teachings and beliefs of Jesus Christ and is still used today in Christian’s churches today. The Bible also has texts that are sacred to both Judaism and Christianity. The point of the Bible is to point people to Jesus Christ who will save them from salvation.
