On the above date and time officer.taylor (bagde number #3431) and me, both conducted a traffic stop at 2400 sheridan street, hollywood florida, which is located in the jurisdictional limits of broward county, in the city of hollywood.
Let it be noted when this incident occurred, both officers were in a black and white marked police vehicle. Also at the time of this incident both officers were in a fully identifiable hollywood police standard patrol uniform. The standard patrol uniform includes a department issued short sleeved dark blue shirt with a hollywood police patch affixed to each sleeve, a hollywood police badge (located on the left side of the shirt in prepositioned eyelets), as well as an embroidered name tag on top of the right
shirt pocket flap. Both officers` were also wearing department issued dark blue uniform pants. Ofc.taylor and me both observed a black male traveling westbound on sheridan street in the 2400 block on a bicycle during the hours of darkness with no lights, this officer then conducted the traffic stop at the above listed location. Ofc.taylor made contact with jerome daron, herein after referred as the arrestee. Ofc.taylor then advised the arrestee he was being detained for no lights on his bicycle. As soon as ofc.taylor advised the arrestee of the bicycle violation, he spontaneously uttered "boss man, im going to be honest, i got a pipe on me". Ofc.taylor then asked the arrestee where the pipe was, which he responded "in my front left pocket boss man". Ofc.taylor then asked the arrestee if he could retrieve the pipe which the arrestee responded, "ya boss go ahead, i know i fucked up." ofc.taylor located a clear glass cylinder pipe in the arrestee’s pocket. Based on ofc.taylor knowledge, training and experience he this to be knew the pipe, was consistent with how it is used to smoke crack cocaine. The glass cylinder pipe contained suspect cocaine residue and was field tested positive for the presumptive presence of cocaine by me (ofc.alban #3359). Ofc.taylor also located in the arrestee’s right pocket a clear plastic baggy with white residue inside it. A field test was conducted by ofc.taylor, which came back positive for the presence of cocaine. The arrestee was taken into custody and was charged accordingly.
Released in 1989, Crimes and Misdemeanors outlines the lives of two men; Cliff Stern and Judah Rosenthal. Cliff Stern, a small time film-maker, struggles to succeed in both his career and marriage. While Judah Rosenthal, a wealthy ophthalmologist, faces moral dilemmas after having an affair with a young mistress. Judah's mistress expects him to leave his wife and when he doesn't she threatens to expose the secret relationship. Unsure Judah contemplates whether or not killing the mistress, to protect his comfortable lifestyle, is morally comprehensible. Ultimately, Judah decides to pay for the murder and gets away with it. Surrounding Judah's decision and Cliff's struggles, minor characters emerge within the plot embodying specific philosophical viewpoints. One of these characters is a professor and philosopher named Louis Levy who voices the importance of love. Shortly before committing suicide Levy says something rather ambiguous about love; "it is only we, with our capacity to love, that give meaning to an indifferent universe; and yet, most human beings seem to have the ability to...
With producing reality shows comes producing inaccuracies in portrayals in order to reach as many viewers and gain as high ratings as possible every week with each new episode. Every day life is boring, yet people tend to be attracted to the relatable shows that portray real life in eccentric ways – ways that they believe could be imitated by the average person. In many cases, these shows could remain harmless, as it is entertainment. No matter how crude or erroneous, it is just television. However, what happens when these sources of amusement actually start being damaging? Research has shown that crime shows like the ever popular CSI: Crime Scene Investigation have started becoming significantly detrimental to criminal cases, influencing a juror's perception of what should realistically be going on with acquittal rates and wrongful convictions, but researchers have also started to find a rising fault in the prosecution, using this false perception to their advantage.
To recapitulate, Chris Burden has created both of these works to stir up the public opinion regarding violence in America, or as well as the world. In both Shoot and LAPD Uniforms, have to do with violence, force and power. I believe that Burden’s work involving the uniforms stirs up more of a current topic in today’s society regarding racial profiling, due to the massive population boom of minorities. The LAPD Uniforms had much more of a profound impact on me, being a minority and all. Lots of police officers today, much like in the past, use racial profiling to further their investigations, for they believe that the past crimes created have some sort of correlation to a persons race. Furthermore, art is and will always be subjective, for the question of “what” is not as profound as to understanding how or why.
There has been controversy in the world about police brutality and whether police have used excessive force to apprehend a subject is increasing. Police brutality has been around for a long time, but it just now televised. In the late 19th century, the issue of police brutality was often tied to business owners’ efforts to break up strikes by workers attempting to organize and form labor unions, also on a day known as Bloody Sunday where a group of peaceful protesters were literally beaten to the ground, sprayed with tear gas, and water hose by the police (“Police Brutality”). Even in 2015 in Baltimore Freddie Gray, 25-year-old African-American male, died while in police custody due to injuries in the spine and in some parts of Baltimore the
There have been lots of modern technologies introduced in the United States of America to assist law enforcement agencies with crime prevention. But the use of body-worn cameras by police personnel brings about many unanswered questions and debate. Rising questions about the use of body cam are from concern citizens and law enforcement personnel. In this present day America, the use body cameras by all law enforcement personnel and agencies are one of the controversial topics being discussed on a daily base. Body worn cameras were adopted due to the alleged police brutality cases: for instance, the case of Michael Brown, an African-American who was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, on August 2014, Eric Garner died as a result of being put in a chokehold by a New York police officer, and John Crawford, shot and killed by a police officer at a Walmart in Beavercreek, Ohio.
Police officers have a great amount of discretion. Since they are not always supervised and on patrol they choose which cases should be process and which one should just be not. Police discretion is the most important part because it determines the outcomes of the interaction between the police and the juvenile. Krisberg and Austin noted that police have five basic options in deciding what course of action to pursue with juveniles. The first one would be release, accompanied by a warning to the juvenile. The second one would be release, accompanied by an official report. The third one would be Station adjustment. Which include release to parent accompanied by an official reprimand, referral to a community youth agency, or referral to a public or private social welfare or mental health agency. Fourth would be Referral to juvenile court without detention and last referral to the juvenile court with detention.
Criminal masterminds are often overthought by stereotypical movies. We all love our hi-tech exclusive gadgets, and we love our laser-dodging art thefts, but do these things really happen? The public often likes to think they do, because it is an overwhelming experience to be engaged in such a movie. The real “pros”(Dolnick, 14) will still go for the easy way. Which raises a question; Criminal masterminds exists, but do they actually enjoy the risk of theft, and disobeying the common law? To dive into such a question, we can’t just consider art theft. We have to look in all types of criminality and the difference from a stereotypical fiction and a dead on non-fiction.
Everyday law enforcement personal have the possibility to face dangerous events in their daily duties. In performing such duties a police officer could come by a seemingly ordinary task, and in a blink of an eye the event can turn threatening and possible deadly. When or if this happens to an officer they won’t have
The world is full of injustice. Of programs that want to accomplish the right things but get twisted by the people that run them. This essay will deal with the reasons and Birth of the Hays Commission, the ludicrous steps they took to add "morality" to the motion picture industry, and some other sensors of the time. All things said in this essay are true and taken from the Hays correspondence its self.
The officers must all be equipped with a certified helmet. Officers should wear gloves, and padded shorts. Officers should also be encouraged to wear their protective body armor, and a cotton polo type police shirt.
Police misconduct is as rampant as ever in America, and it has become a fixture of the news cycle. Police brutality is the use of any force exceeding that reasonably necessary to accomplish a lawful police purpose. The media is inevitably drawn toward tales of conflict, hence why there are so many crime and police stories on the news. Despite the increasing frequency of misbehaving cops, many Americans still maintain a high respect for the man in uniform. Still, police misconduct is a systemic problem, not just an anecdotal one. Here are some reasons why it is a problem. First, many departments don’t provide adequate training in nonviolent solutions. With this, police are unfamiliar with what to do in a non-violent situation, often resorting
There have been several court rulings and legislative actions concerning the release of the different forms of officer information. Judge James C. Chalfant of Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled that there is public interest in knowing the officers information in cases where officers fire a weapon. The judge stated that since the officers’ names are not shield as personnel documentation, “The Times” had the right to know the names. The Long Beach Police union President was worried about the release of officers’ names. Law enforcement officer from all over California argue that releasing the information of misbehave officers’ to the public, would put the officers’ life and family at risk. Due to their arguments, lawmakers took legislative action and destroyed a bill that made available the admission to disciplinary records. Judge Patrick T. Madden of Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled that the police should not keep secret the information of the officers and if they will do so, they will have to justify the reason why. The Judge also declared that evidence be provided on occasions where there has been a risk or danger when the of...
“How do we really know what happened?”, “Should they have taken that person’s life?”, “Couldn’t they have done something else to handle the situation?” These are the key questions that are connected to the police and the use of deadly force. The answers aren’t undemanding. Where do we start? Attempting to capture evidence about specific incidents involving police officers, additional agencies are considering the completion and feasibility of department-issued body cameras. Chief of Police Jason Parker of Dalton, Georgia stated, “Unlike in-car cameras, body-worn cameras capture everything that happens as officers travel around the scene and interview multiple people. The body-worn cameras have been incredibly useful in accurately preserving information.”
Crime is everywhere and it takes a special group or team of people to stop it, or make crime less tempting to do. The main job of police and security officers is to maintain justice, order and peace. In order to keep peace police officers must go through an academy that will prepare them for most situations that they will have to face later on in their career. Some situations require a more intense way to solve a problem such as using force or putting the perpetrator in fear so they will give in to what the police are asking. In some cases the peretrator(s) are too volatile or risky for the basic trained police officer, so the swat team must be used. The swat team unit or “special weapons and tactics” is a higher trained police force. It is a select group of officers that have been through more training and more experience than the average cop. Without the police or security civilians may not feel as safe as they do now when they are walking in the streets or going to a public event. For the people who want to be part of such a unit and are willing to put people before themselves will need to know what it takes to be a police officer.
Police officers have a very reputable job, meaning they must be professional at all times. The job of a police officer is to protect and to serve the public. Since most of their time is spent in the public eye, they are expected to maintain professional behavior. The first step in projecting their professionalism is their dress. They should be dressed neatly,
