Personal Statement
I have a great interest and appreciation of history as an intellectual subject and in the historical discipline. It is my intent to pursue a life course in which I may practice in the historical discipline, contribute to historical knowledge, and help inform people. I am seeking to further this aim by applying to the graduate history program at the University of Syracuse. Now this opening may sound rather intellectualized and optimistic, but this reflects my own style. This rather intellectual, spirited, and committed toward the goals and causes which I seek to advance.
To allow you to know more about me I will address my personal background.

In the fall of 2013 I began attending Alfred University, majoring in history, and minoring in philosophy. I expect to graduate Alfred University in this coming May. In my time at Alfred, I have been consistently on the Dean’s lit, and I have been inducted into Phi Alpha Theta and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. I am currently in my second years as president of the university’s history club and as student president of the university’s chapter of Phi Alpha theta. I have presented historical papers at Phi Alpha theta regional conferences, and have given a number of historical lectures at the Angelica Free Library. In this coming semester, I will be working as part of a project to establish connections between the University’s history department and area historical institutions, to open future opportunities for students to engage in volunteerism and internships. I am currently working on writing an honor’s thesis to seek an honor’s degree in history. Overall, in the past years, I have developed myself as a historian and have been building my …show more content…

Summary: I was born on May 27, 1818 in Homer, New York. I attended a local school and after that I taught school and was a private tutor. In 1840 I married Dexter C. Bloomer, a newspaper editor who got me interested in public affairs. I started to contribute articles to newspapers on various topics and joined the local women’s Temperance Society. Then, I began writing The Lily, a newspaper for women. I became more active in women’s rights and made many speaking appearances. I also began a dress-reform movement for women, pantaloons under a short skirt. I sold my newspaper but continued speaking about women’s rights.
A major life event that started me to pursue an education in nursing was my time in basic training. The most life changing event during my induction into the army at ft. Jackson before starting basic training was accepting Christ as my personal lord and savior. When I decided to go into the Army 4 years out of high school I was a student firefighter E.M.T. working towards my paramedic, incidents at the Dept. I worked at both before and after some traumatic emergency responses actually turned me away from practicing any sort of medicine and causing me to seek the military for a new career or to pay for me to go back to school for another career if the military wasn’t my thing. During Basic training as stated above I was already a licensed E.M.T.
This reflection paper is based on the life history interview conducted on me and a 78-year-old woman who is soon going to celebrate her 79th birthday on Sep 21st. I would call her with a fictitious name “Smita” in the entire paper to maintain and protect her privacy. The interview was about our life. It was divided into six major life categories: childhood, adulthood, identity, the present, aging, and life lessons. Having an opportunity to interview a 78-year-old woman and writing this reflective paper about the life history and experiences had made me realize that I have a lot to learn about the stages of human life. Every individual lives are different and it varies tremendously. As an interviewee my goal was to collect the details of life, different stories, and experiences that makes our life unique from the rest of the people.
1. Why is History ever changing and multi-sided even though the event occurred in the past? Select a specific example from history to support your thesis.
Karl Marx once said, “History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce.” As a member of Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society, I would like to establish a young scholars league, in the elementary schools, where I can assign small portions of Bayonne histories to each chapter for them to promote it to their schools by having small assemblies. In addition, I can advertise Bayonne High School’s history department by explaining the advantages of participating in the various programs available in this district, such as explaining student accomplishments such as students winning numerous awards in history competitions, and getting scholarships from different universities, and encourage to take the rigorous courses offered within this school. I have also communicates with
A couple of weeks ago, the class was assigned a personal narrative essay and the prompt was to tell an interesting story of a specific experience that changed how you acted, thought, or felt. To be honest, I was awfully excited to write this essay because talking about myself is the easiest thing to write about sometimes. However, deciding what experience to talk about was challenging because I have already experienced so much in my seventeen years of being alive from dislocating my hip when I was three, to seeing my grandfather die in front of my eyes, from almost tripping off of the trail on the Grand Canyon, to meeting band members at an airport. Writing this essay brought me many challenges, I did not know what topic to
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Anyone living in the 21st century starts their day by washing their face with a foaming face wash, followed by a balmy moisturizer, topped with a generous layer of sunscreen and finally a dash of fragrance. Amidst this phthalate cum paraben rich regime, we are inadvertently exposing our body to a noxious cocktail of chemicals hard to regulate and study. As I became aware of these facts, I could relate the reality of our life with the fascinating accounts in the book, Our Stolen Future which depicted how major diseases are somehow associated with the ubiquitous contaminants in everyday household products. Coming from a generation of scientists, I was inclined to crystallize my goals by pursuing an extensive course to
Although I am only sixteen years old and in the eleventh grade of high school, many things have influenced me and caused me to be the person that I am today. I hope that these things will continue to help me be a better person and influence me as my life continues. Some of the things that have influenced me have been church, my family, my friends, and school.
Life story interview/ project was design for you to get to know a random stranger or a close friends. You would asked general questions about the person life, school, work and family, therefore many will open up to you but a lot of people would not. Before you did the interview you had taken a NIH certification make sure you understand how to do the interview. You had recorded it, transmitted it, coded it and then present it to the class. Once everything was done you learned something new about this person or you may look at their cultural a different way.
When I think about the person I want to become I think about a kind person who wants to make a difference in the world. I want to help and Inspire others and In general just make this world a more positive and loving place. The personal project was an opportunity to not only do something for myself but for others. By doing this I would be able to reach my goal of being the person I wish to become someday by helping others and spreading my positivity. I decided on feeding the homeless because with this I would be able to help others in need and hopefully inspire or make them happy. Feeding the homeless won 't necessarily change the world, but small acts of kindness like this might inspire other people to do them too and If everyone decided to
Influence is one of the greatest effects people have on us that defines who we are as we grow and learn. Influence is aroused by people media and advertisements. The largest influence in my life has been my very own family. While not all of the effects of their influence were derived from good they shaped me into who I am today. They have instilled within me traits of financial responsibility, confidence, and the courage to fail.
My life has been a roller coaster ride with a lot of up and down moments. My roller coaster ride helped to realize what I wanted to study in college. I feel that I have a strong passion about psychology; I want to learn everything that I could, so I could be able to assist people. Everyone is passionate about a certain aspects of life, but I’m very passionate about my career. A passion is a strong feeling and sometime a controllable emotion that can make a difference in someone work ethic. During my career I want to be able to make a difference in other people lives. My passion for helping people came from my family experience, educational, work, and career goals. I feel that the passion that I have for helping people is
