In a person’s life, it is difficult to find a moment in which complete satisfaction is achieved. For example, strolling through the toy aisle as a child always led to mental breakdowns complete with a series of high-pitched screams. Kids yearn to own the newest toy on the shelf, that one purchased last week doesn’t even compare to the new hit item. As the years go on, kids stray away from the toy aisle and their new interest include receiving the trendy clothing featured at American Eagle Outfitters or having the finest gadget sold at the Apple store. Kids always wish to grow up; they want to be bigger, stronger, and more intelligent. Growing up comes with many other challenges, like fitting in. One of the hardest times in a developing adolescent’s life is the transition from middle school to high school Luckily, there are plenty of TV shows and movies portrayingthe everyday experiences that a high schooler faces. Well, these videos do not tell all truth. In some ways these shows portray high school just as it is, but in others these directed films are completely and entirely incorrect. Even though teenagers memorize these films forwards and backwards, they will in no way be prepared for what is about to happen when walking through the doors on the first day. In some ways the directors did depict high school just as it is. One of the most frightening moments in a teens high school
In band people are divided up by the instrument they play, but for each section there is also a stereotypical personality. The stereotypes for me high school band are kind of weird, but have stayed a constant norm for as long as I’ve been in band.
Today and in recent history of the film industry, masculinity is often shown as stereotypes and examples of alpha males who are powerful and dominant who seek adventure and are always quick to show their opinion and strength. In the film School Ties (1992) directed by Robert Mandel, Charlie Dillon (Matt Damon) is a young man in his last year at high school who has to live up to his family’s superior(?) expectations and high standards that his older brother has left before him. Charlie Dillon is portrayed as an alpha male. While on the journey to manhood and through his final year of school he finds that though it may be impossible to live up to his family’s name, he will do anything to achieve his goal. The director
American culture has a variety of stereotypes that “define” our culture. From the stuck up cheerleaders in high school to the working middle class white collared males in an office setting. America perceive different race, ethnicity and even class groups through heavy stereotypes. In the movie Not Another Teen Movie, shows these different stereotypes about high school and teenagers through their groups/class and race. Many teen movies depict the standard high school setting and typically white or suburban high school. These movies tend to go against stereotypes and show a brighter side of high school. For example High School Musical displayed a typically high school love story between to Troy and Gabriella. They were not apart the same “group” in their high school. Troy was a jock and hung out with the popular group of students and Gabriella was a smart and hung out with the more smart and nerdy group of students. In the end true love prevails and bring the two young couple together even though they were from different social groups. In Not Another Teen Movie it shows all the normal stereotypes that are connected with the high school setting such as the jock having a cheerleading as a girlfriend, the horny freshman boys, the different groups with in the high school and the race to be prom queen. This movie is good to show different stereotypes in high schools in America but also it shows how the body and the male gaze is always displayed in this movie also.
High school is a time where teenagers are moldable into anything their surroundings tempt them to be. Most have about eight classes a day and each requires them to do a large amount of work per day and a heap of knowledge to retain
The transformation from middle school to high school marks an exciting and overwhelming time in a teenager’s life. It marks the beginning of a new chapter in life and it opens new doors of opportunity. High school is easily over estimated compared to middle school and middle school is very much under estimated from high school. High school and middle school are very different with only a few similarities. The two different levels of schooling have completely different time schedules, different priorities take place, and one schools education system is more advanced than the other.

So in high school just shut out your silly stereotypical movie laws to being a high schooler because this isn’t High School Musical, or Grease, or Mean Girls. We aren’t all in this together, we are here to get into college and make something out of ourselves, the faster you realize that the faster you will be successful. Ferris Bueller, an icon of all that is high school, stated that, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." Though some of us will still testify that these years have gone by much too slowly, most will be willing to admit that they've gone faster than we initially expected. Our freshmen year we entered Staten firmly locked in the cliques that carried over from middle school, only to watch them slowly dissipate as we met new, exciting people in each of our classes. This was the year of the blessed late start days and the introduction of the seemingly impossible new standards. Our freshmen football team battled its way to an undefeated season as we powerhoused our way through the year, struggling to stay afloat in the sea of new faces, traditions, and teacher reputations. Treading water we finally broke in to summer, eager to carry out plans with friends, new and old, and to take a break from the homework we had finally grown accustomed to.
Stereotypes have bad effects on students in high school and their academics because so many different stereotypes have been developed throughout the years. It has become a normal for people such as teachers or adults in general to label students with those stereotypes and treat, look and talk to them as if that stereotype were true. This is what causes students who are of any color or anyone who is not a man to think less of themselves when doing important assessments such as finals. This is because most people of color and women listen to those stereotypes and believe that they must be true so they keep it that way. In (Enter RHETORICAL PRESI) the students would get treated and are seen as delinquent latin teens who will never make education
In today’s world the names and faces may have changed, but all in all kids stay the same. The rules and parameters of this game called, high school, may have changed in order to stay current with the nineties, teenagers coming of age in society have stayed practically the same. You hear a lot of teachers say that the kids are different and that “things just aren’t the same”, it is the teacher who has failed to adapt and modify themselves. High School is a paradox. A beautiful and painful experience that will stay with someone for the rest of their life, whether enjoyed it or hated it.
Teenagers are actually not as bad as you would think. Teenagers can be knowledgeable. They also can be very good thinkers. Caring is another profile they exhibit. Society has teenagers wrong.
Adolescence is a transitional stage from childhood that is accompanied by change in physiques, emotions, psychological and social factors. During this stage, most adolescents become rebellious, ignoring their parents instructions, and rather embrace rules that make them comfortable. One of the characteristics of teen development can also be influenced by peer pressure. Even though most adolescents are said to be rebellious during this developmental stage, it is also important to look at the cultural context in which they behave. Martin (2014) suggests what may be considered normative and emotionally healthy within one culture, and what is considered respectful and honorable behavior may all be seen as a signs of disrespect in a different culture (p. 124). Culture is a very important issue to consider when dealing with adolescents behavior else one may conclude by stereotyping that all adolescents are disrespectful and rebellious.
Teenagers today have to put up with, and go through a lot. They are going through a very important phase in their life which paves the way towards adulthood. However more pressure seems to be added each year onto teenagers because of what other people believe. One of the major problems that affect teenagers is stereotyping. If you asked an adult to describe the average teenager they might come up with things such as. Out of control, rebellious, noisy, arrogant, and a burden or ‘deadweight’ in society. What is it about teenagers that make the rest of society seem to constantly stereotype them? I believe that people have been getting their information about teenagers from the wrong sources, as there are many misconceptions. Many adults from different generations and cultures believe that all teenagers are out to cause mayhem, and are almost certain to cause trouble no matter where they are. It can’t be denied that teenagers like this do exist, and there are many of them out there, but teenager’s reputation as a whole should not be influenced by one group or type of them.

One challenge adolescents face during their teenage years is adjusting to the unfamiliar school atmosphere. As teens enter junior high they start noticing how different the classes are and the tremendous amount of work. Compared to elementary school, junior high consists of more classes, meaning an increase in school work. After junior high, adolescents start high school, where everything becomes exceedingly important. When these young adults begin their journey in high school, they are told to not only have exceptional grades, but to also be involved in a reasonable amount of extra-curricular activities. Due to the fact students are not able to manage their time wisely between keeping up with grades and the extra activities they have joined, they become more stressed. In addition, competition in academics and extra-curricular activities increases. This means that these teenagers not only worry about how they are doing in school, but they are also concerned with others exceeding them. Teenagers begin to comprehend the importance high school has on determining where they will be in the future.
