On average this parade brings in over thousands of people to the downtown chicago area. This event offers attractions such as floats, dancers, and after parties. The only public disturbance we really get are rebellious teens. Never have we witnessed such an surprising event in the history of the parade.
The majority of people who attend Mardi Gras parades on the west bank are often different from the majority of people who attend Mardi Gras parades on the east bank. The east bank is home to nearly all of the famous city of New Orleans, and attracts many more tourists and New Orleans residents to parades during the Mardi Gras season. A large amount of drunk tourists and residents often roam the streets of the east bank during Mardi Gras season, making it a more mature setting. On the other hand, the west bank normally receives much fewer tourists than the east bank, making the parades on the west bank more family oriented. Since the majority of tourists during Mardi Gras season are seeking an oppo...
Over the years, the Calle Ocho festival has brought hundreds of smiles to thousands of people. Behind the smiles, the laughter, and the dances, there is a serious side to the festivities. In the beginning, Willy Bermello just wanted a little backyard get-together that would bring neighbors closer, but the festival turned into something much, much bigger. With the festival's growth and inevitable commercialization, Bermello increasingly felt that its importance was being forgotten. He wanted to let people know this was more than just a big party. He wanted people of different races and different ethnicities to be able to feel comfortable with each other, and not just for one day. He wanted Calle Ocho's influence felt throughout the year.

Mile, this summer Chicago was embellished by a new landmark, or landmarks to be more exact. Nearly 300 cows have found a temporary home in the streets of downtown and its buildings. This extensive public art project, organized by the Chicago Public Art Program , commemorates the city’s industrial history, while bringing a sense of community and beauty to Chicago’s citizens and tourists. In this “parade”, every cow is full of meaning as well as artistic value. Although many might argue, I, to the contrary, would like to applaud the City of Chicago for the implementation of this great project.
When planning the march, the organizers made sure that Washington D.C. was ready for anything so that the march could go on no matter the circumstances. Marchers were advised to bring raincoats, hats, sunglasses, plenty of water, and non-perishable food. To accommodate the expected 100,000 to 200,000 people, there were 292 outdoor toilets, 21 water fountains, 22 first aid stations, 40 doctors and 80 nurses along the march (“On the March” 17). The National Council of Churches made 80,000 boxed lunches for the marchers at 50 cents each. When the buses of people came to Washington D.C.’s outskirts, 5,600 cops and 4,000 army troops came to patrol the parade.
My idea for the school mascot is a Cardinal. The name should be Cardinal High School. This is because the Indiana State bird is a cardinal. It gives a new name to the new school while also remembering the shared heritage between the two schools. A common symbol or name is important to a community because it brings them together. All schools should have a mascot and theme because it gives spirit and pride to the school. The new principal should use the new school mascot and symbols to unite the diverse students. The new principal should also remember and carry on some of the traditions at the other high school to benefit the new school. This may be difficult however because some students may resent the new school. They may wish to go back to
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade every year has more than 3.5 million people attend the event from all over the United States. Crowds of people line the streets watching and cheering on the more than 8,000 people participating in the parade. The number of people attending the parade must be taken into consideration by public safety officials. The city of New York has the responsibility of providing safety for its citizens and all those attending the event. The annual Macy’s day parade will begin at 9 AM on Thursday, November 23, 2017. This is the 91st annual parade which is held in New York the parade will start on Central Park West from 77th street. The parade
“There is no negro problem; there is no southern problem; there is only an American problem”(Lyndon B. Johnson). The civil rights movement occurred from 1954 to 1968. America was divided into group simple because of someone’s skin color. The nation was separated into a white and black community. Although there were heartbreaking times in this movement, moments of joy were shared after everyone was finally equal citizens. The March to Selma, Alabama was one of the most historically significant events in the struggle for civil rights. Through perseverance and patience, our world was changed dramatically by Sheyann Webb, Jonathan Daniels, and Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.
The fight for nonviolence continues even today. For many years now, we have slowly been
This year, our Marching Band received the chance to visit to Nashville, Tennessee, where we encountered the different musical culture they developed. Starting the trip, the band attended The Grand Ole Opry, a concert where several talented country musicians performed live in a giant hall. A fascinating experience, we learned about the musician’s lives through their music and what they consider everyday aspects of their lives that people don’t have farther up north. Moreover, one of the band members won the opportunity to participate in a dance-off onstage during one of the breaks, something the entire band celebrated in camaraderie. Next, a holistic museum of country music, “Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum” held all kinds of pieces from
The preparation for this big event starts months in advance. Cofradias are the like the coordinators of the event. In English, Cofradias means brotherhood and they work together to plan and make sure the entire holiday is taken care of. They are also known as the “Heart of the Holy Week”. Confradias have to map out the route of the parade for every day of the week. The parts of the parade that are on main streets have bleachers on the sides for seating. However, these seats must be booked far in advance and are very costly. Cofradias also have to make sure that there are police and security so that the holiday is safe and peaceful. After the day’s parade ends, there are crews that come out and clean the streets. The Confradias are in charge of taking care of the Jesus and Virgin Mary throughout the year and that al...
The Freedom rides were the events that were inspired by the American freedom rides to give equal rights to black people as what the white people have. Back before 1967 in Australia many of the aborigines were treated very poorly and many people have been discriminative and racially insulting and abusing them for a long time. The people who stood to take action for better rights had been non liked at all and usually were insulted by many people and then they would take their reactions and make aggression out of it. The white people all tried covering up the situation but that was not what the student action for aboriginals wanted, they wanted everyone one to know the truth and they did not like that at all and that is when people reacted. The freedom riders had many emotions over the course of the trip, they were furious, upset, angry and scared but they never gave up throughout the trip. But then the event was broadcasted on the news then people really knew what was going on and were upset that the aborigines were actually being treated this way. Many people reacted differently to the rides but at the end of the day the freedom riders eventually got what they want to achieve, equal rights.
The Fables for Our Time contained in Thurber's The Thurber Carnival are, in my opinion, particularly good examples of a writer successfully 'breaking frames' in order to create humor and satire. In this essay I am going to explore the main methods Thurber uses to create humor and satire in the fables "The Shrike and the Chipmunks" and "The Unicorn in the Garden"2.
Scissors, Paper, Rock! For my first cultural event, I attended the University Performing Dancers rendition of “Scissors, Paper, Rock!”. This dance performance took place in University Hall here on campus. This performance is considered a cultural event because the game Rock, Paper, Scissors is an ancient game that many different cultures have claimed to invented.
