My idea for the school mascot is a Cardinal. The name should be Cardinal High School. This is because the Indiana State bird is a cardinal. It gives a new name to the new school while also remembering the shared heritage between the two schools. A common symbol or name is important to a community because it brings them together. All schools should have a mascot and theme because it gives spirit and pride to the school. The new principal should use the new school mascot and symbols to unite the diverse students. The new principal should also remember and carry on some of the traditions at the other high school to benefit the new school. This may be difficult however because some students may resent the new school. They may wish to go back to
William Jennings Bryan Elementary is over seventy years old, yet it still portrays the same strong spirit as it did when it first opened. Our school’s mascot, "The Bryan Lion", was chosen as early as the 1930s for its proper representation of the pride everyone feels who are or has been part of the Bryan family.
This school has had 5 principals in 4 years. I spoke earlier about this school being a part of the I-zone. The I-zone is a special subset of schools within Shelby County that are given the task of leading a school from the bottom 5% to the top 25%. In that there is a high turnover rate with administrators and teachers. I was selected to be a turnaround principal given a certain amount of time with the authority to make necessary changes. The community asked for a principal they could relate to. They wanted to be involved with the school and wanted resources given back to them so they could help their children. I listen to community concerns and established a parent power committee so they could be partners in education with us. We reached out into the community to garner some wrap around services to help and support our students. We gained seven (7) new Adopters who have formally taken the charge to provide resources that all students will need to achieve academically. Life Church gives us food. Bellview Baptist Church comes in and tutors all our 2nd grade students. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity has volunteered to come in and work with our students on STEM projects. We have Omega Psi Phi who comes in an exposes our kids to social and character development. And the list goes on. There just so many programs and organizations ready to work with us because they know
The article “The problems with Native American Mascots” written by Laurel R. Davis covers many arguments regarding the use of Native American names and images for sports teams’ mascots. Rather or not sports teams should be able to continue using Native American names for their teams and images for their mascots is a highly controversial topic. Opinions will vary, especially when a person of Native American heritage is being asked opposed to a person of non-Native American heritage. Native American images should not be used for sports teams’ mascots as their use stereotypes the group, misrepresents many aspects of the Native American culture, as well as negatively impacting the lives of those that come from Native American heritage.
The historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are fledgling to compete with Predominately White Institutions (PWIs). HBCU were established to serve the educational needs of black Americans. Before HBCU college was create blacks were generally was denied admission to traditionally all white institutions. Since black Americans was prohibited from whites schools HBCUs became the principle means for providing postsecondary education. There are several reasons why all blacks’ schools does not compete with predominately white schools. HBCU’s most of the time do not keep their accreditation, their tests scores are very low, and do not get as much funding
Teams use Native American mascots in all sports, to represent their team’s pride, strength, and will to win. The role the mascot plays is an intimidation factor, as well as something to motivate the team. Mascots rarely fall under scrutiny, except for the mascots that represent Native American tribes, people or cultures. Many schools and teams use some sort of Native American reference as a mascot. Examples of Native American mascot range from names like the Indians, Chiefs, and Braves, which are some of the more generic ones, to Seminoles, Fighting Illini, and Chippewas to name some of the tribal based names.
There are a few different types of football, but flag football is one of the safest types. Flag football is a kind of US. football, pulling the flag from the belt is a substitute for tackling. The subject of the game is to score touchdowns by draw the ball up the field by running or throwing the football, and crossing the end zone line.
Flag football is a variation of the American game football. It’s quite an original name. Flag football is used by many recreational leagues and schools for physical education. It is better for the wide use of the public because there is limited physical contact. Tackle football is viewed as dangerous, due to the many injuries often occurring in the game such as concussions and broken bones. Flag football eliminates that risk. The players wear a belt of flags and instead of tackling, the opposite team will yank a flag off belt of the player.
The confederate battle flag, also known as the old Dixie flag strikes as a controversial topic. The flag sparks many ideas as to what it represents, symbolizes, and is viewed as by the general public. Given the the history behind the flag one should have a chance to see an explanation of the true meaning and history of the flag before choosing a stance. It will show the true meaning of America and history. The Dixie flag should not be banned or made illegal in any county, city or state. During the civil war the flag was created for the confederate states of the civil war to identify the soldiers of the south. Today many people view it as racist or as a white supremacist symbol. The true meaning of the war and why it was fought was not about
An advertising character or better known as a mascot is a way for a company to help promote their product of sale, and to help it get more known to the people. A mascot character helps connect to the people and make them feel more welcome. Take Tony the Tiger for instance, Tony is a Friendly Tiger who has fun making kids happy and safe. He talks about his great experiences in his adventures and compares them to Frosted Flakes. Kelloggs used Tony for their cereal, Frosted Flakes, for kids to be amused by Tony and his silly remarks and beg their parents to buy Frosted Flakes because their grrrrrreat!
What makes the topic about confederate flags so controversial? There are two sides to this topic. On one side we have people saying that it should be placed where the public can look at it. On the opposing side we have people that want to get rid of it. Does removing the flag violate our first amendment of free speech? The first editorial called, Symbolism of Confederate Flag Is Undeniable it is for the flag staying up in public places. The second editorial called, Take Down the Confederate Flag, Symbol of Hatred, this is editorial is for taking the confederate flags down permanently.
This essay is in favor of people flying the Confederate Flag due to its true meaning. In this essay I will provide the historical and the religious meaning of the flag, I will provide support for the flag, I will provide opposing viewpoints and a rebuttal for those viewpoints.
Controversy over the flying of the Confederate flag is rampant in today’s society. Specifically, whether the flags should be flown in public places such as schools, courthouses, and capitols. The Confederate flag has been flown over many state capitol buildings. Men across the southern half of the United States died simply for the ideas of that very flag. The flag memorializes the sons of the South who died during the Civil War. The men who lost their lives battling for the Confederacy were not simply fighting over slavery, they were engaging in battle for other very important factors such as trade, tariffs, and state rights. The Confederate flag should be allowed to be flown over public places such as schools, courthouses, and capitols because it captures the essence of American

is a personification of Wikipedia and was created in January 2006 by the editor then known as Kasuga.[a] She is an unofficial mascot of Wikipedia and is used in multiple WikiProjects. The "-tan" in "Wikipe-tan" is a hypocoristic suffix, in the form of a Japanese honorific. Like the OS-tans, she is a product of moe anthropomorphism.
Let me begin by saying that I am very honored to be addressing the County High School Class of 2012 as students of this institution for the last time. We've spent these last four years creating some serious memories: four years of chieftain power, leaking roofs, questionable Homecoming skits, and musical principals. Four years of good teachers, bad teachers, new teachers, old teachers. Four years of youth, music, growing up and breaking free. Four rubber chickens, four yearbooks, four ASB presidents and four chubby bunnies.
