This was called the world’s largest store and it was at that time covering over 1 million square feet of retail space. That year to start off the holiday season right Macy's put on a show targeting consumers in hopes that a parade would attract buyers to go into the retail stores. What started as a marketing tool by the department store has turned into a New York holiday tradition that is shared all around the Nation, from the parade goers who weather the cold to the families who watch it from home. The parade’s lineup this year will include 17 giant Balloons, 14 Novelty Balloons, 4 Balloonicles, 31 Floats, 25 different performers, 12 marching bands, 33 different groups of clowns and 8 performances groups. If there is a car accident, stage claps, or fires the firefighters and will be rescuing those that are in danger. Alongside the firefighters, the Emergency Medical Services will be providing the life-supporting resources and care that may be needed. There will be ambulance ready to deal with anything life threating. They are equipped with first aid and other medical instruments. Paramedic services will be positioned all along the course of 3.5 miles just in case anyone needs medical treatment. This American tradition can’t be hosted by the great city of New York unless all of the public safety agencies mentioned above in this text don’t work together to ensure the highest quality of safety available. The planning must involve not just the NYPD, Fire department, FBI, private security and EMS but also Macy’s parade planners. The safety of 3.5 million people can’t be achieved by one agency but by the unity of all involved in the
The majority of people who attend Mardi Gras parades on the west bank are often different from the majority of people who attend Mardi Gras parades on the east bank. The east bank is home to nearly all of the famous city of New Orleans, and attracts many more tourists and New Orleans residents to parades during the Mardi Gras season. A large amount of drunk tourists and residents often roam the streets of the east bank during Mardi Gras season, making it a more mature setting. On the other hand, the west bank normally receives much fewer tourists than the east bank, making the parades on the west bank more family oriented. Since the majority of tourists during Mardi Gras season are seeking an oppo...

Days before the festival, Upstate New York was ready. The city, county and state officials knew what to expect, and felt confident in their abilities to handle traffic, crowd control, sanitation, medical emergencies, and any unexpected problems.

An important aspect of Syracuse is the entertainment. The city of Syracuse is fortunate enough to be the home of 28th largest symphony orchestra in the country. It also has the honor of hosting the New York State fair, which is the longest running fair in the country. Other main sources of entertainment for the Syracuse community are Armory Square, which consists of restaurants and small gift stores; Columbus Circle, a more historic area that includes the library, the courthouse, the War Memorial, as well as various churches; and Clinton street, where many businesses reside.
This is a disgrace! To all the turkey’s at Thanksgiving! forty-five million turkey’s are cooked a year. Not only are those awful humans eating us, now they are entrapping us in disgusting cages and making us eat only corn and soybeans. That’s not even the worst part, they put something in our food called vitamins and minerals. I heard yesterday from keith, my turkey friend, that they talk about how they feed turkeys healthy things so that the people who buy the turkeys won’t get sick or something like that. They also say we taste different at different ages.
Thanksgiving Compare and Contrast Food, Family, and Fun!! Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the United States, always celebrated on a Thursday in November. There are many different ways people celebrate Thanksgiving. You give thanks and celebrate what you are most thankful for. Thanksgiving is a national holiday that has many different traditions, activities, and foods in different families.
Thanksgiving Day is a day of family, food, and giving thanks for the blessings in life and yet some people believe Thanksgiving to be a prep day for Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year. The focus of Thanksgiving shifted from family bonding to incessant shopping. This trend of taking away from the hours of Thanksgiving in order to shop is enraging. It steals away from family time for the shoppers and the employees. Employers threaten workers that if they do not work on that certain holiday, they will be fired. Black Friday should be kept to Friday instead of moving in on my family time. The whole culture of Black Friday has become repugnant and unnecessary.
Textbooks in today’s schools still tell the same story that has been handed down from generation to generation. Every year children dress up and put on plays about the famous story of the first Thanksgiving. No one knows the truth though or at least people pretend to not know the embarrassing truth of our “founding fathers.” Textbooks today give the candy coated version of good saintly Englishmen come to a better world and find good neighbors willing to help in their time of need.
Following the steps of the Dutch who first came to Lower Manhattan, we embarked on the Staten Island Ferry on Sunday, Nov. 10, and we could see one of the world’s most famous figures: The Statue of Liberty, a gift from the French to the U.S. that was put in such a strategic and historic place. The view of the green icon from the boat that was transporting passengers from Staten Island to Lower Manhattan, with the skyline of New Jersey in the background, and New York to our right, was a delightful experience. Not one person on the ferry was like the other, one could see people from all over the world, joined together and representing New York’s diversity, trying to relive the same experience that the Dutch had centuries ago. Some people take this ride every day for work; others were simply tourists or inhabitants of the New York metropolitan area.
2,753 people died in the World Trade Center, 403 of which were NYFD, NYPD, and Port Authority personnel. This number could have been lower if the fire department and police department had worked together appropriately (Tracy, Thomas. “FDNY to Announce 32 More 9/11 Linked Deaths .” NY Daily News, NEW YORK DAILY NEWS, 7 Sept. 2017, www.nydailynews.com/new-york/fdny-announce-32-9-11-linked-deaths-anniversary-nears-article-1.3476104.) The police and fire departments were against each other since at least 1993, this led to them being unprepared during the event of 9/11 because of the lack of coordination. The 9/11 attacks were terrorist-caused, planes were hijacked and flown into the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and a random field in Pennsylvania.
Number Four: Making it Happen. The Thanksgiving Parade is an epic event built to extraordinary standards for a simple department store. To make it all happen, a single one of those fun character balloons requires approximately 12,000 cubic feet of helium, and about an hour and a half to inflate. After inflation, the balloon spectacles can last for an average of eight years- Kermit is about to turn 14 this
The purpose of Thanksgiving in Canada is different from the Americans. But even though the reasons for giving thanks are different, many of the customs are the same. Canadian Thanksgiving was originally started to give thanks to God for a bountiful harvest. This was when there were lots of farmers that grew crops. Now we give thanks for everything we appreciate. Some farming families still give thanks for a good crop.
Many stores across the country are open on Thanksgiving Day, which obviously means people are working that day instead of enjoying the holiday celebrations with their families. According to a study done by Airlines 4 America, an airline industry trade group, 25.3 million people were expected to travel during the days surrounding thanksgiving. This implies many people were attempting to visit friends and family for the holiday season. If people are working long, stressful hours
When you associate anything with New York City it is usually the extraordinary buildings that pierce the sky or the congested sidewalks with people desperate to shop in the famous stores in which celebrities dwell. Even with my short visit there I found myself lost within the Big Apple. The voices of the never-ending attractions call out and envelop you in their awe. The streets are filled with an atmosphere that is like a young child on a shopping spree in a candy store. Although your feet swelter from the continuous walking, you find yourself pressing on with the yearning to discover the 'New York Experience'.
