Why Should Boxing Be a Highschool Sport?
Boxing should be a highschool sport for many reasons. Boxing teaches things like, discipline, confidence, and self-defense. This can be key for young athletes, especially high schoolers.
Firstly, why boxing should be a highschool sport, is it helps get young athletes in shape. Getting in shape for high schoolers is fairly high in America. According to the 2015 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, “13.9 percent of high school students were obese, and an additional 16.0 percent were overweight.” Furthermore, boxing can help lower this percentage by the occasional boxing practice, which includes lots of cardio work and exercises. According to a article called, Losing Weight With Boxing Versus

Self-defense is highly considerable for young kids especially going into highschool. Many kids in highschool have suicidal thoughts because of bullies bullying them, and them not knowing how to defend themselves. According to an article called, Bullying and Suicide, it states that, “A series of bullying-related suicides in the US have drawn attention to the connection between bullying and suicide… Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year, according to the CDC. A study in Britain found that at least half of suicides among young people are related to bullying.” In this case, this is where boxing can help with self defense. In boxing you train how to defend yourself and use what you have to your advantage. In the article, Boxing for Self-Defense, it claims that, “You learn to generate knockout power in both hands with a variety of techniques from different ranges. You learn to block, slip, parry, dodge and evade those attacks. You practice both of the above in a live fire situation against an opponent who does his best to hurt you. Those are the critical aspects if you want to use boxing for self-defense.” This can be key for highschool students facing problems like
By learning self-defense, he finds a relationship between the “logic of practice” and scholarly knowledge. Practicing at the gym is a way to refine the boxer’s innate aggression. Out
I believe that in middle school, it is a necessity for kids to be involved in extracurricular sports to learn knew skills that they can apply on and off the field. Due to budget cuts, more and more schools have had to cut extracurricular sports. I know that I want sports to come back and so do many kids in middle school. Sports will benefit your health and many other aspects that help you become successful.
Being a professional boxer didn’t do much for his mental health because he says he would feel on top of the world and yet so lonely at the same time after a fight. Therefore, he suffered not only the physical demands, but the mental demands in the professional arena of the sport.
The liberty of an individual in sport is the number one value that should be respected to make boxing morally adequate. Autonomy should be respected in sport because ones body should always have freedom from external control and influences. All arguments for paternalism can be explained in a justified way to prove that boxing is unethical and unsafe, but this does not mean that paternalism is the best way to bring about safety in boxing. If boxing were to be banned, violence would become more prevalent outside of sport, and proper boxing technique and skill would slowly disappear. Keeping boxing as a sport will create a safer environment for this type of activity to occur, and also create a fair ground for each sport that involves violence to stay available to athletes. Because boxing does involve violence, this does not imply that it is immoral to participate and that the freedom to participate should be taken away from athletes. Boxing provides a safe environment, a place to create a career, and is an institution for sporting entertainment. By allowing boxing as a sport to continue, this will create a safe and fair atmosphere with the freedom to allow all individuals to participate with proper
The traditional view of martial arts for most people comes from the movies, either featuring Bruce Lee or possibly the Karate Kid. With those classic references, the martial arts of today would seem quite alien. What was once obscure has now become the mainstream with millions of martial artists of one degree or another. The violence of this sport is far beyond what boxing, or football could ever accomplish; while those sports often cause concussions and the occasional broken bone, some of the martial arts expect their students to break the bones of their opponents if the fight goes out of control or simply by accident. This brutality usually shunned by civilized society, instead served to increase the sports reputation. The popularity of mixed martial arts soared over the last couple of years mainly due to the emergence of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) as the fast growing sport in America. With this popularity of the sport mixed martial art gyms are emerging up all across the country. I visited a local gym to study the fighters, with the intention to understand the mentality that goes along with this profession.
Kempo teaches self-defense. Self-defense is the defense of one's person or interests through the use of physical force. The art of Kempo is a process of learning a skill through repetition. As stated in the article written by Pamela Knudson, she states “Aug. 05--Watch Casey Mihalek lead the white-clad, barefoot members of his karate class at ATA Martial Arts in Grand Forks and you'll see a well-orchestrated training regimen with a purpose: self-defense infused with discipline and respect”(Knudson). When you learn techniques such as the kicks and blocks from an instructor you will need practice to build these skills and the more you practice Kempo the more it seem like second nature. As stated in the article written by Kristin E. Holmes, she states “Genell, 46, a safety director for a demolition company, operated a karate studio for seven years, but decided to focus on teaching adaptive martial arts after being inspired during a stint at a camp for children with disabilities”(Holmes). Once you have acquired these skills you no longer have to think about the techniques you will automatically react with self-defenses moves.
Contact sports can help students is so many ways as far as grades to friendships. In reality some people think that contact sports shouldn’t be banned from school because it helps kids in so many ways. But on the other hand some people think that they should be banned from schools because they get hurt, they can have concussions or even broken bones. I think that contact sports shouldn’t be banned from schools because it helps kids have better relationships with each other and it helps kids deal with emotions.
In Conclusion, a ban on boxing is not only illogical but impossible! In my mind, if you want to minimize the number of actual life-long injuries related to sports, you would be better off coming up with elaborated rules for motor sports or rock climbing. Who wants to terminate a sport that has been entertaining the world for centuries? How could medical ethics eliminate a sport which participates in the Olympics?
Blocking (striking) with the Shin or Calf (12/14); is the next study and the practitioner must toughen and strengthen these body parts if he expects to take and deliver blows successfully without injury.
Many will argue that the sport encourages physical fitness, work ethic and determination. He sports history has not been without its controversy. Modern boxing was created in the U.K. And USA in the 19th and 20th century's. One controversy of the sport is that the goal of it is to knock the opponent out and nothing else. Tomyton.
Boxing Drills You Should Be Doing Boxing is one of the most popular combat sports in the world. Every match consists of a predetermined number of rounds, usually between 9 and 12, each lasting for no more than 3 minutes. When the average person thinks about fighting or self defence their first image is of pugilistic combat. This punching and kicking, which is striking, is only half of hand to hand combat with its counterpart which is grappling. Grappling refers to using techniques to gain an advantageous position or to cause injury to an opponent. Striking is a direct attack with the attackers body. A simple way of looking at it is to compare wrestling to boxing because wrestling is a discipline that is primarily grappling and boxing which is primarily striking.

For those who do not know, I am a mixed martial arts fighter. Mixed martial arts fighting is “a sport allowing a wide range of fighting techniques that include striking, kicking, and grappling.” (www.merriam-webster.com) It is a compilation of forms of different martial arts. Two fighters will face each in the rings (known as the octagon due to its shape) for three to five five-minute rounds. I started taking martial arts classes when I was six years old. I wanted to be a mixed martial arts fighter all my life. I loved the thought of stepping into the octagon and pounding somebody senseless as a sport. My mother and father, at first, did not want me to take the Taekwondo classes because of this fact. It took a lot of begging to finally convince them to let me do it. They realized that it is very important for any child to learn some type of martial arts. It is essential to use for defense. Mixed martial arts are the thing that helped me cope with my rough childhood and mold me into who I am today. Over the past twenty years, the sport of MMA has revolutionized and has become very popular throughout the world. Despite this being said, other people very hesitant about accepting mixed martial arts. The sport of MMA is gradually becoming a safer sport. Even though it is considered a dangerous sport, other sports at proven to be more dangerous.
Muay Thai is well-known as ‘The Art of the 8 Limbs’ , as the hands, shins, elbows, and knees are found in this art work thoroughly. A practitioner of Muay Thai thus has the capacity to execute strikes using 8 points of contact instead of 2 points (fists), which is used in Western boxing.
