Hegel: Reason in History
The second chapter of the Introduction to the Philosophy of History bears the title "Reason in History"; however, careful study reveals that it could just as aptly been dubbed Reason is History or better, History is Reason. Although Reason exists in a finite form within the human being, the whole—infinite Reason—is necessarily greater than the sum of its parts—the sum of finite Reasons. Hegel's Reason is the infinite material of all reality—the substance, form, and power.
History is the increasing self-consciousness of the Spirit i.e. Reason; that is, a progressive increase of Reason within the world. This relationship between history and Reason is expressed by Hegel's agreement with Leibniz that this is the best of all possible worlds. In other words, everything is as it should be. In fact, Hegel makes strong assertions along just these lines, "that [Reason] reveals itself in the world, and that nothing else is revealed in the world but that Idea itself, its glory and majesty (12-13)." It is from this idea that Hegel derives the point that "Re...
In sections 190-193 of Georg Wilhelm Fredrich Hegel’s Phenomenology of Sprit, Hegel looks into the relationship between the lord and the bondsman. In this examination of the relationship, Hegel makes the move to find out what both the lord and bondsman offer to each other in terms of existence and or identity. The formulation that Hegel made in the selected sections is that the bondsman had more to gain in terms of intellectual growth than his lord who becomes intellectually dormant due to the bondsman acting in the likeness of his lord.
Concussions may not have many long-term effects, but if one does not take it seriously they could suffer from serious brain injuries that could possibly have devastating outcomes. Concussions should not be taken as a joke and should always receive proper treatment and care. One should not play a sport before their concussions is fully healed, because they could end up sitting out of the sport for longer than they first had intended.
...hing,” (100). He covered her body with hay and then disappeared from the barn with a puppy in his hand. Lennie never intended to kill or even hurt Curley’s wife but because of his strength and mental incompetence of realizing his actions, the death of Curley’s death was inevitable.
...f play from elementary to the professional athlete is at a risk for a concussion. Competitors are becoming bigger, faster, and stronger, which lead to more forceful collisions. It is important for an athlete to understand what a concussion is, testing and treatment used, and the life long effects concussions can lead to. Over the last decade, concussion awareness has increased dramatically to help protect the players. Coaches, parents and athletes have many resources today were they can learn about this traumatic brain injury. There are also tests that are used to help athletes return to play safely. It is important to stay informed about concussions because they are impossible to prevent and can have life long physical and mental effects. One concussion can altar an athlete’s life or their families. No game is more important than the health of an athlete.
A famed philosopher, Hegel, emphasizes that self-consciousness is attained by being recognized by another conscious being. When these two beings collide, one will be a Master and the other would be a Bondsman, after fighting in a life-or-death struggle to prove dominance over the other. This relationship is said to be fluid. This idea can be found in Ellison’s the invisible man where he gives the story of himself relating to the black experience in the 1950s. Most importantly, when he fought a white man in the alley, and with the Light & Power Company.
There are many theories regarding the mechanism of concussion but the precise mechanism is still not clear-cut. It is known that concussion is a clinical syndrome of neurological impairment that results from traumatic biomechanical forces transmitted to the brain that can occur either directly to the brain or indirectly to the brain. (5) To further explain the term concussion, it is important to know that it is a change in brain function following a force to the head, which may be accompanied by temporary loss of consciousness but is identified in conscious individuals with measures of neurologic and cognitive dysfunction. (6)
Confusion on the definition of a concussion can affect athletes, coaches and trainers when it comes to diagnosing a concussion. The knowledge to know the signs and symptoms of a concussion can reduce the short, medium, and long-term consequences of them. Signs of a concussion could be an inability to focus, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, and slurred speech. Concussions have been around for many years. More and more research is being conduction on concussions as the years pass for a better understanding. As a better understanding of concussion is being researched, sports teams should force and make better rules when it comes to hitting players. Athletes that has had a concussion can suffer from short-term symptoms like verbal delay or long-term symptoms like a disability. Helmets are being improved constantly, but the reduction of concussions is not decreasing. Reduction of concussion starts with the player reporting his injury. After reporting the injury, the proper steps can be taken to get rid of symptoms and prevent the likeliness of the injury from happening again. To prevent to the likeliness of the injury to reoccur the athlete must take time away from the sport and spend a certain amount of time recovery. Before returning back to play, the athlete must be check for readiness. Readiness can be checked by testing the athlete’s behavior and abilities. Sports come with pros and cons. The pros can be working with others to complete the same objective while having fun. The con can be simply suffering from a concussion. So an athlete has to be willing and well educated on the sport he or she wants to play before committing to a certain
A concussion is defined as an “injury to the brain or spinal cord due to jarring from a blow, fall, or the like.” (dictionary.reference.com) it’s hard to think about, but these are common place in our world today. There are various groups, including the NFL, who believe there should be a necessary change in the rules and guidelines with concussions such as the protection of the players, the proper medical support needed for those players, and the relief they get from the league. Since 2012, when they first started keeping concussion statistics, there have been “692 concussions in preseason and regular season games combined”,
ABSTRACT: There has yet to be a culture discovered which lacks music. Music is a part of our existence, but we do not fully understand it. In this paper, working in the tradition of Aristotle, Wittgenstein and Langer, I elucidate some of the connections between music and the emotions. Using contemporary philosophy of mind theories of emotion, I explain how we can have a better understanding of our emotive responses to music. I follow the pattern through representational painting and abstract painting to music, and show how each functions as an intentional object for the object of our emotions in response to each art form.
They can cause many long and short term effects on the brain. When looking for a concussion in may be hard to identify whether one has one or not, but one can determine if they have this by symptoms. Some symptoms include being dizzy, not feeling like themselves, and not being able to complete simple tasks. Also, when dealing with concussions, one does not want to receive more than one of these because it can lead to CTE which kills the brain even more. They usually only get CTE if they have had multiple concussions. Another thing to remember with concussions are, if someone has a concussion they should sit out of all activities so they can allow for their brain to heal. If they don’t do this and they risk themselves going out to play it could be fatal. This is because if the brain is not done healing and the concussed player receives another concussion during the time he could make the concussion irreversible. It 's also important to know that kids between the ages of eight and twelve should not be partaking in activities where they could seriously damage their head. If they do that, they could ruin the rest of their lives. Another reason why sports leagues need to do more to help prevent these concussions. Concussions do not just occur in football, in fact, they happen in baseball, hockey, at work, and sometimes just one wrong jolt to the head could make the brain hit the

Concussions today are among the most severe injuries in sports, especially in the game of football. Concussions can almost happen at any place or at anytime just depending on the situation you are in. 5-10 % of all athletes will experience a concussion during their time of play in whatever sport they are participating in. ‘’A typical high school football player receives about 650 hits to the head per season, according to researchers at Purdue University and the University of Michigan. The impacts of those hits are the equivalent of what a seat-belted passenger experiences in car accidents ranging from 15-to-35 mph, according to University of Nebraska professor Timothy Gay, author of “The Physics of Football.”Needless to say, that is a lot of contact that most likely could leave the athlete vulnerable to brain injury’’(Baumbatch) Football is the leading sport in concussions, therefore players should be especially aware of the dangers of concussions. The re...
The Transcendental Deductions of the pure concept of the understanding in Immanuel Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason, in its most general sense, explains how concepts relate a priori to objects in virtue of the fact that the power of knowing an object through representations is known as understanding. According to Kant, the foundation of all knowledge is the self, our own consciousness because without the self, experience is not possible. The purpose of this essay is to lay out Kant’s deduction of the pure concept of understanding and show how our concepts are not just empirical, but concepts a priori. We will walk through Kant’s argument and reasoning as he uncovers each layer of understanding, eventually leading up to the conclusion mentioned above.
In his Phenomenology of Spirit, G.W.F. Hegel lays out a process by which one may come to know absolute truth. This process shows a gradual evolution from a state of "natural consciousness" (56) (1) to one of complete self-consciousness - which leads to an understanding of the "nature of absolute knowledge itself" (66). By understanding the relation between consciousness and truth, one may come to know the true nature of our existence. Hegel proposes to answer these questions in one bold stroke; he relates them in such a way as to make an infinitely complex and indiscernible universe a unitary whole. This process from a natural state to a kind of transcendence leads one from the chaos of the immediate to the sublimity of the universal.
Human beings have been struggling to learn the meaning of life since the first day. Ideologies are born as human’s interpretation of the world and belief system, also an endeavor to seek the truth of human nature. Ideologies emerge throughout the periods of great changes: the Enlightenment, the English “Glorious” Revolution, the American Revolution, etc. They have become the motivations, the standards, and the roots to modern political systems. Their roots are the philosophies developed by famous philosophers throughout the time. However, as each ideology is developed, its own contradiction also grows, takes place in the realm of actions. This, in turn, shows contradiction as human nature.
