During the healthy care self project I have and have not achieved my goal. During this project I learned that things do come up in life and even though you may have a plan and want to follow a regimen you will not always be able to follow it as well as you would like to. A key thing looking back that hindered my achievement towards my goal was life and how busy it can become. When it came to working out in the beginning I was very faithful to it but once I began having assessments in school I began looking at it to what is more important, working out or my grades in school. As a student who is paying for their own schooling, school always seemed more important than. While looking at the provided graph you can see what I did attend the gym faithfully in the beginning of the project but after a few weeks in is when I began to stop attending the gym. …show more content…
A strategy that facilitated within my journey of living a healthier lifestyle was the fact that lent, occurred during the same time as this project. Lent is practiced by Catholics and during this time you are to either give up or improve on something within your life from the time of Ash Wednesday to the day of Easter. This year for lent I chose to give up the foods that are high in starch; this would include, bread, noodles, rice, cereal, and potatoes. Giving these foods up during this time as reduced the amount of times that I ate out because options were so limited and eating something at home was easier. Looking at the graph you can see the documented days that I ate out and when I made a home cooked meal. The occurrence of lent during this project was an unplanned strategy that assisted myself in working towards my goals of living a healthier
My Negative eating habits and recent medical troubles are what prompted me to choose a healthier diet as my behavior Change Projects. I recently went to the doctor and I was informed of my high triglyceride levels and I was put on medication. In addition, I am vitamin D and B deficient. After, visiting my doctor I knew I had to make a change in my life. In the Past year I have gained a little over ten pounds. So not only is this project helping me improve my diet, but has also given me a new incentive to lose those extra pounds.
Physical activity is my weakest area. I only exercised one day of the week and the plan was for six to seven days a week. The most successful and reasonable way that I can work my way up to my goal is to not jump in with both feet and think that I should be over exerting myself because I will lose interest. I enjoy classes such as yoga, spin class, or kickboxing which would be a great way to build up my energy and also be entertaining. Walking for thirty minutes a day is another way to effectively engage my body to be more
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously imagined.
Have you ever inquired what leads to a person’s eating habits? Several factors can play a role in an individual’s choice of food consumption. Important factors to consider when choosing a diet include religion, cultural background, geographical location, knowledge and family income. Although the listed factors can influence food choice it is important to remember that maintaining a healthy diet requires eating in moderation and the discipline to sustain the diet. I continuously attempt to maintain a healthy diet, however, I find myself digressing to unhealthy choices (junk food).
...e completely healthy attempting to avoid my punishment and then there were days where I ultimately caved and failed at eating well. On those days, I followed the rules I set in place and worked out as I said I would that evening. Part of the time my boyfriend would inevitably cause me to falter by cooking a nice fattening meal, but I don’t blame him at all considering it was up to me to make the decision to refrain from eating it. I probably didn’t do as well as I could have around lunch time or dinner but I’m glad at the fact that I did keep away from sweets and snacks throughout the entire week. I was really intrigued with getting good results for this project so I tried my hardest to actually follow the program set. Even if I don’t keep with this change after the project it’s very comforting to know I CAN eat healthy when I want and I CAN workout if I need too.
Self-care is a critical component, it is the activities individuals and community members undergo having the primary intention of enhancing the health of themselves, overall preventing illnesses, disease, and restoring health. It is important to understand that self care is active and powerful in maintaining an optimal level of health. A person’s overall health includes physical, mental, emotional, relationship, choices, and spiritual components of well-being (McCoy, 2013).
This paper will focus on what health care social work is. It will also discuss my personal self – reflection on how I will prepare to work with individuals, families, and communities affected by disease, illness and public health issues. Lastly a brief self- appraisal of my skills will be possessed along with my hope to develop to assist individuals, families and communities in a health care context.
I fear that I wont reach the time frame I 've set for myself and could possibly be delayed which will lower my confidence and motivation. However by being organised and having good motivation i can overcome that doubt. My goal I 've set for myself is to eat completely healthy by November 2016 however one difficulty I most probably experience is laziness, unable to prepare meals the night before, lack of motivation and constantly being tired throughout the week. To overcome that obstacle good preparation must take place for example keeping a diary and recording personal progress. Another obstacle that I might face is negativity by individuals around me causing myself to be discouraged and think twice about my final goal. This can be solved by remaining positive and only interacting with people who are trying to reach the same goal. Wanting to reach this goal desperately lack of preparation may occur, however by following up meals, keeping track of the days to exercise, looking up recipes, and being on top of everything this will bring me one step closer to my ultimate
The reinforcement from my co-worker also helped, the support over the period of time really became an unexpected motivator. Using technology and using positive affirmations and alarms on my phone also played a role in my success in my behavior change. This will continue to act as an reinforcement for me. Constantly reminding my family and friends of my goals and behavior change is important, which helped to reinforce them so they don’t become an antecedent again. Constantly imaging the importance and result of going to the gym is also something I need to keep in mind in order to stay successful down the road as well.
Living a healthy life style is challenging and stressful but it shouldn't be that way. Starting off slow and allowing your body to get accustomed to such changes will help you enjoy yourself more with these new changes. Changing one dish you eat to something healthy is a great start. Keeping yourself happy while putting healthy foods into your body or exercising will further your success. Making schedules or goals for yourself weekly and trying to fulfill those goals will help you accomplish more. When someone starts working out and eating healthy, their body will reward them. Their mental health will improve, prolong their life expectancy, they lower their chances of health problems, example diabetes, boast their self confidence, lower their blood pressure, and increase their energy level, plus so many other great things. A lot of people nowadays think that they are too busy to workout or that since they’re always on the go there’s no way that they can eat healthy home cooked meals, but that of course is not totally true. Living a healthy lifestyle and being fit can be easy, you don’t have to go to a gym to get a good workout in,just some basic exercises that you know work for your body, can be done right in your home. Eating healthy doesn’t have to be time consuming and expensive, preparing a week worth of food aka meal planning, is the best way to make sure that you’re eating the right amount of food and it’s a great way to prevent overspending at a grocery store because you don’t know what you’re going to eat in the next week. Taking care of yourself is something everyone should have time for, you only have one body so treat it
When I was first asked to do this project, the idea was very daunting. What do I chose? Why do I have to do it? Shouldn’t this be my choice to make a change in my life? But then I took a deep breath and settled back in and began to think. What would be the best and most effective change I could make in my life. I need to exercise more, my diet could defiantly improve, and I need to sleep better. The easiest one to change I figured would be my diet for breakfast and lunch which will eventually help with the other things as well. So I started to evaluate what I ate and whether there is a healthier option instead. This was difficult and took a while because I have Avoidant/ Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARVID) also known as Selective Eating Disorder, Which basically means that I have specific food that I can eat and specific food that I can’t without gagging and throwing up. Growing up this made eating healthy a challenge seeing as I mostly like carbs and pre-packaged food. Since I have become a better eater being able to eat some meat and fruits/ veggies. So I found some hea...
The first strategy that I can use in order to limit the amount of trans fats, processed sugar, and cheese that I eat is to cut back the less nutritious foods that are found around my apartment. Now, throwing out every item of unhealthy food isn’t the way to go because, lets face it, we all need to splurge sometimes. On the contrary, I can cut my options back. By doing this, it will help to limit the temptations that I have in my everyday life. Another strategy that I can use is to control my portion sizes. My version of portioning has always been the method of putting more of the things that taste better and less of the things that don’t taste as good on my plate. I need to start balancing out my plate by their nutritious values instead of their “yummy” value. Don’t get me wrong, nutritious foods are yummy too, but they aren’t the same type of yummy. Planning what I am going to eat ahead of time is another way to stick to my goal. This will make it easier to stick to a more nutritious diet. There are so many new substitutions in cooking now. Trying new things has never been one of my strong suits, in fact, it kind of scares me, but by broadening my options and trying these substitutions it will create a healthier way to enjoy some of my favorite foods. The options to eating healthier are endless, but these are just a few of the possible strategies that I may use in order to complete to my goal and
When I started the first week of my exercise program, I have a tough time completing all of the workouts and an even harder time staying motivated. By the time I started my seventh exercise of the day I was winded and on the verge of giving up and calling it a day. I soon realized that the reason why it was so hard for me to complete my exercise regimen is because I was not physically fit. Although I feel as if I am at a perfect weight, my weight is not as relevant to my health as I had previously thought it was. It was then that I decided I would commit to my exercise program to improve my overall health.
My personal health has been something I constantly think about. Whether it’s myself, my parents, my doctor, or others that bring it up, I’m reminded that I need to eat healthier or exercise more, etc. I know that I need to get better about what I eat and try to work more exercise into my daily routine, I just find it hard to find the motivation to go and actually accomplish what I know that I need to do. Especially in today’s society where we’re surrounded by a lot of non-healthy food, and getting access to healthy food is more expensive than the latter, it’s hard to make the better choice and choose the healthy option. I’m hoping now that I’m in college that I’m able to get better at taking care of myself than I have in the past.
