In the contemporary society, a master’s degree in these fields is given a priority during application for a health informatics analyst position. One professional organization that a health informatics analyst can join is CAHIIM, headquartered in Chicago, and recognized as a national accreditation body for health informatics. In order to join a network of health information analysts, one can follow social media pages such as the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) on Facebook which already have over 57,000 followers and updates events for health information analysts in the United States. Introduction “Health informatics is the science that underlies the academic investigation and practical application of computing and communications technology to healthcare, health education and biomedical research” (UofV, 2012). This broad area of inquiry incorporates the design and optimization of information systems that support clinical practice, public health and research; understanding and optimizing the way in which biomedical data and information systems are used for decision-making; and using communications and computing technology to better educate healthcare providers, researchers and consumers. Although there are many benefits of bringing in electronic health systems there are glaring issues that associate with these systems. The

Health information records include patient histories, lab results, x-rays, clinical information, and notes. The data can be analyzed to see how a patient’s health might have changed. I took interest in Health Information Management when it was brought to my attention by a doctor. He told me that is a very interesting field and it is in high demand as they have more jobs than people to fill them. I went home, researched it and now here I am making my entry into the field.

An HIE (health information exchange) allows medical professionals at multiple levels access and share medical information electronically, and within the confines of HIPAA privacy laws. HIE is meant to improve efficiency, speed, quality, and cost of patient care. It is thought by some in the industry that HIE is not able to address recurring challenges associated with rapid technological advancements. The initiative for HIE is being driven by meaningful use requirements, coordination needs for new payment approaches, and federal financial incentives.
Health information management involves the practice of maintaining and taking care of health records in hospitals, health insurance companies and other health institutions, by the use of electronic means (McWay 176). Storage of medical information is carried out by health information management and HIT professionals using information systems that suit the needs of these institutions. This paper answers four major questions concerning health information systems.

This system can improve the quality of health care, lowers paperwork and increase productivity. It also decreases the interpersonal time with clients.

To better understand the roles needed to enhance the public health infrastructure; one must first know the purpose of a health informatician. An informatician is a person who studies or work in the field of informatics. According to the American Medical Informatics Association Inc., “Public Health Informatics is the application of informatics in areas of public health, including surveillance, prevention, preparedness, and health promotion. Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is reshaping the health care system in the United States at an accelerating rate. In earlier times US Healthcare system was more focused on intervention of diseases, but now it is moving more towards preventive approach and I see Health IT as the most important tool that can lead this change. I strongly believe that my professional goals, range and depth of my experience and knowledge is an asset and my enthusiasm for the field makes me an ideal candidate for the Master of Professional Studies in Technology Management (Health Information Technology) program at Georgetown University.
