1. Responsibility I: Assess Needs, Assets, and Capacity for Health Education -A needs assessment helps health education specialists find health problems, available assets within the population, and its capacity to address the health issue at hand. The first step is to identify all existing resources, methods, and research designs that would be helpful to applying the assessment process.
Responsibility II: Plan Health Education/Promotion – Once the needs assessment has been completed, program planning begins. The health educator needs to recruit stakeholders and other administrators to help develop programs. The health education specialists needs to then make goals and set objectives. They next develop a plan to see if the program objectives were met. Health education specialists conduct surveys, tests, observe behaviors etc. and analyze the data. The next step of this responsibility is to compare the results to other findings and propose possible explanations of their findings.
Responsibility V: Administer and Manage Health Education/Promotion – In order to have a successful health program, administration and management are needed to help coordinate everything. Administrators need to have good people skills and leader ship skills. They also need to be able to manage finances, and be able to budget successfully.
Responsibility VI: Serve as a Health Education/Promotion Resource Person – Health education specialists must know how to use all the resources available at state and national levels. Knowing how to use the computer well, and find information on the internet, online libraries, online data bases, and articles is very helpful. These specialists must also know how to dissect the information available and put together material to educate a target audience. Staying current with current, and upcoming health problems is very
