The elderly who live alone in the county suffer from low socioeconomic status, low health literacy rates, declining cognitive and physical health and lack of healthcare facilities. The health status of this vulnerable group is impacted by rural culture and social values, healthcare policy and funding affecting rural healthcare facilities, distance and lack of transportation, and health literacy.

The American Health Care system has prided itself on providing high quality services to the citizens who normally cannot afford them. This system has been in place for years and until now it did a fairly decent job. The problem today is money; the cost of hospital services and doctor fees are rising faster than ever before. The government has been trying to come up with a new plan these past few years even though there has been strong opposition against a new Health Care system. There are many reasons why it should be changed and there are many reasons why it shouldn’t be changed. The main thing that both sides heads towards is money. Both sides want to save money just in different ways.
Disparities in health care have long provided challenges and occur in groups of people who receive less or lower quality health care than others which often results in poorer overall health outcomes (KFF.org, 2012). Health Care Disparities refers to a population of people that have a higher burden of illness, injury, disability, or mortality (KFF.org, 2012). The disparity aspect refers to the differences between groups in health coverage, access and or quality of care (KFF.org, 2012). Disparities are commonly viewed by individual races or ethnicities, but they also cross many dimensions and include socioeconomic status, age, location, gender, disability status, and sexual orientation (KFF.org, 2012).
As the population of the United States ages and lifespan increases, the U.S. is being faced with challenges that could either hurt the country or benefit it if plans are executed correctly. By the year 2050, more than thirty-two million Americans will be over the age eighty and the share of the 80-plus generation will have doubled to 7.4 percent. Health care and aging population has become a great deal considering the impact it is having on the U.S. The United States is heading into another century with an outstanding percentage of people within the aging population. Today’s challenges involving health care and the aging populations are the employees of health professions being a major percentage of the aging population, the drive into debt, and prevention and postponement of disease and disability.
According to DeBrew, author of “Can being ageist harm your older adult patients?” stereotypes and discrimination are evident in various aspects of patient care. “Ageism [is] defined as stereotyping or discrimination aimed at older adults and a lack of knowledge about normal changes of aging and presentation of illness in older adults (. . .)” (DeBrew, 2015). DeBrew (2015) states, “research findings suggest that ageism is common in healthcare” (DeBrew, 2015). Ageism is not only an issue in the healthcare setting, but also among older adults as well as their families. When ageism is present in the healthcare setting it poses

In Australia one of the main demographic changes is the ageing of the population and this is occurring due to the lowering of the fertility rates and the ability to live longer. Our country also has more representation of the older citizens and the Bureau of Statics believes that by 2065, our population would have 23-25% of those who are elderly and these changes not only effect the nation but families as well. This shows how well our nation is preventing maternity and infant mortality and the choices of women having their children later in life. Another change that is demographic in Australia is that divorce is becoming more common within families which can have effect on the entire family and this shows that in Australia single parenting

Hetzel Care Nursing and Rehabilitation is owned by Platinum Healthcare; within the facility it is the administrator who manages the staff and runs the building. Some strengths that I noticed about the facility is that it is small enough where the staff can connect with the residents. Jody said, “I really like working for this facility since most of the problems are eliminated right away or sometimes even anticipating them before they get started” (J. Krueger, personal communication, January, 11, 2016). In all her previous experience she knew she was meant to be at Hetzel Care Nursing and Rehabilitation, not only the wonderful residents but also the knowledge that she is gaining at the facility.
