Every day I walk into the school wearing my toque and wait for the bell to ring. As I hear the dinging sound of the start of the day the first words out of my principals mouth are always, “Ben get your hat off.” With not even a minute to spare after the bell goes. Everyday I hear this and everyday I question, “What’s the big deal?” or “Why can’t I wear my hat?” Aside from the fact of it being a rule. I also question why that rule is even in place. Why shouldn’t students be allowed to wear hats in school? No matter who you are at school you’ve probably heard the words ,“No hats in school”, or “Take off your hat”. You might think, “why can't I wear my hat?” You may even hear those words and pass it off as stupid, I would agree. Why can't we …show more content…

I respect a lot of my teachers and principals, and putting on my hat doesn't change that. It is a hat, not a symbol of rebellion or hate. It is an accessory of clothing that we should be allowed to wear to express ourselves if we want.

A lot of schools that don't wear uniforms encourage you to dress the way that you feel comfortable or to express yourself within reason. Hats should be included inside of the school. Yes they are considered an outside accessory but with the amount of people who like to sport their hats inside, We should be allowed to wear them because it is still a part of who we are in a sense. I know for a fact that a teacher could easily pick my out of a crowd by seeing my hat.

Some people may look at you with a hat and think you’re somehow related to a gang. If they wish to say that, then when you wear a hat to support cancer and someone has the same one as you, does that make you a part of a gang? No it means you have the same hat. What if you wore an elmo hat does the suddenly make you part of the “123 gang”. No, so my point is would you consider yourself or someone a person of that level in society just for wearing a hat? You wouldn’t because that's not how it works, just because you slip a hat on doesn't make you a different person and it does not decide who you are. Many respected authorities and other figures
