Hartwick college has recently changed the rules to the living requirements of full time students. With the building of new apartments on campus, the college has made it mandatory that all students live on campus all four years. The college did not let incoming students know of this change before we chose to attend this college. Being able to have the option to live off of campus Junior and Senior year is a perk of going to college, but Hartwick took that perk away from us. The new apartments on campus are a great addition to the on-campus housing for Hartwick College. Equipped with a kitchen, two bathrooms, four bedrooms, and a living room space. It is equivalent to living in an apartment off of campus, but is much cheaper. With an apartment off of campus, students will need to pay for heat, electricity, cable, and monthly rent. Not the mention the three thousand dollars that Hartwick College will charge students for living off of campus. With living off campus, comes more freedom for students. There are no RA’s in the apartment’s off campus, and there is no limit to how many people you can have stay the night. students will also not have to check in the any of their guests. Secondly, students do not need to worry about quiet hours or noise complaints from other students. They might just need to worry about complaints from neighbors. Lastly with an apartment off of campus students get to experience what it is like to bay bills, rent, and grocery shop on their own. For community college without residential capabilities, it is important to establish activities that promote student bonding and relationships in a fun, stress-free setting. These relationships will become a part of the following stage of intimacy versus isolation. A strong sense of identity will lead to healthy relationships.
On paper it is easy to argue why Temple Law should be recognized as one of the most desirable destinations for individuals who want to pursue a career in law. It has steadily climbed the rankings, and according to U.S. News and World Report Rankings, it is currently ranked 52nd. Its professors teach what law firms want from potential employees, and consequently, Temple is ranked number six in producing graduates who are ready to practice law right out of graduation. This kind of intensive teaching is also the reason why 87% of Temple Law students are able to find employment upon graduating.
I like to explore a little bit more of the campus every time I am there. Sometimes, I can make a large discovery like finding the gym. Other times, I uncovered something minor like a bathroom. There can be a lot of parties. Some of them are boring because not many people show up or there isn’t anything to do. They can also be extremely fun because there are a lot of people to hang out with. In contrast, students who commute need to save money on the side in order to have access to public transportation to get to class and pay for food at the school. Students living on campus are familiar with places around the college and they know more students. However, students commuting don’t have time for this since they are more worried about getting home on time. As I was always told, it is better to live on your own then it is with a roommate. These are reasons why.one. When you are living, alone you have the responsibility to take care of everything and not have to worry about other people getting in your way. Living on your own offers a great deal of freedom to act how you want and live the way you want. If you want to lie on the couch for days on end, watching there is no one there to complain about your behavior. You can listen to your music as loud as you can want or any kind of music for that matter because you do not have anyone nagging about what you are doing.
