The importance of wandlore in Harry Potter
Wands are what define being a wizard in the magical world. In J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter series it is shown how important a wizard’s wand is, and how it can affect a wizard’s magical performance. The type of wood used, the core and the flexibility of the wand are all important parts in wandlore.
The type of wood used to create a wand is one of the most important aspects of the wand’s potential affinities for its future owner. There are over 30 types of woods that can be used to make wands , but holly, vinewood, elder, hawthorn, walnut, yew, and willow are some that can be linked to important characters in the Harry Potter series. Each wood has a specific tendency for a type of magic which it is best at. For example we have Harry’s wand which is made of holly, this wood is known for its ability to repel dark spirits and often chooses owners which have been chosen for a dangerous quest. This is very suitable for Harry since from birth he was destined to be “the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord” (Rowling, OotP, p.628) and one could say that this was his dangerous quest which he was chosen for. Harry after all is the chosen one. There is also Ron’s second wand which is made of willow and is seen as favorable for charms, it also chooses owners who have insecurities even when those insecurities are not yet acknowledged. In this case we have Ron who has five older brothers which have all excelled either in school, in sports and at being funny. On the first train ride to Hogwarts Ron tells Harry that with five older brothers “[he has] got a lot to live up to “(Rowling, SS, p.64), and without actually outright saying it we can sense some insecurities in Ron. These insecurities contin...

...e Sirius that he had not choice but to sell out Lily and James, “he was taking over everywhere! Wh — what was there to be gained by refusing him?” (Rowling, PoA, p.240), this shows that he is constantly only thinking of himself and seeks the power so it will protect him. A wand’s flexibility is another vital part in determining a wizard of witch’s power.
Overall the three aspects of wand lore, the wood, the core and the flexibility all work together to make a truly unique wand. There are no two wands that are alike and no wand will work best as the wand that chose the wizard. Only the wand that is chosen for a certain witch a wizard has the capability of bringing out the best abilities in its owner. Therefore that is why it is so important that every witch and wizard use their own wand so that they can perform and protect themselves to the best of their abilities.
Witchcraft is said to be the most widespread cultural phenomenon in existence today and throughout history. Even those who shun the ideas of witchcraft cannot discount the similarities in stories from all corners of the globe. Witchcraft and its ideas have spread across racial, religious, and language barriers from Asia to Africa to America. Primitive people from different areas in the world have shockingly similar accounts of witchcraft occurrences. In most cases the strange parallels cannot be explained and one is only left to assume that the tales hold some truth. Anthropologists say that many common elements about witchcraft are shared by different cultures in the world. Among these common elements are the physical characteristics and the activities of supposed witches. I will go on to highlight some of the witch characteristic parallels found in printed accounts from different parts of the world and their comparisons to some famous fairytales.
reader may wish to know what these magical weapons are, so I will attempt to explain. The
I have chosen the five I think are the most important to list if you want to be a witch/wizard (Depending on gender and name of "witch" or "wizard" you may choose). Anyway, the main ones I am listing are these:
Out of the three general witchcraft themes present within the film, the one that is expanded upon the least is traditional witchcraft. Some of the attributes that are mentioned however include gender roles, and overall structure of a witch. For instance, one of the female
Woodworking has been around for millennia or more. People have used wood for building shelter, tools, and other useful things. There are many different kinds of woodworking. The most common today are marquetry and parquetry, which are both forms of veneering and caring. There are many different styles of woodworking all of which are a very impressive art form.
Wood has a classic look and it's an excellent siding material for a cabin or city home. It is long-lasting and durable as long as you care for it properly. You need to stain or paint the wood periodically, which could be a plus if you like the idea of changing the color of your home occasionally. The main benefit of wood is it's attractive
Softwood, which comes from coniferous trees, is what supplies many of the manufactures in the lumber industry. Hardwood is the second kind of lumber and it is what makes up the rest of the manufactures in the industry and is usually made out of deciduous trees. Softwood is found primarily in British Columbia and Hardwood is found primarily in southern Ontario and Quebec. Tree species are the main source of lumber. Many physical geographic processes affect the way trees grow such as weathering and erosion.
Wood species can be divided into two groups: hardwood and softwood. Softwoods are gymnosperm trees, while hardwoods are angiosperm trees. (Stenius 2000). The composition and structure of wood are a masterpiece of evolutionary design, which enable trees to grow tall and live for many years. The wood structure also enables the trees to survive for strong natural forces such as wind and gravity and the structure even provides for an efficient transport of water from the roots to the crown. Wood is a complex biocomposite built up of cells whose own building blocks, the wood polymers and their ideal composition, give rise to a superior weight-to-strength ratio for the wood material. Wood is essentially composed of cellulose, hemicelluloses, lignin, and extractives. Each of these components contributes to fiber properties, which ultimately impact product properties. In different wood species, however, their relative composition varies greatly, and also the chemical composition of wood varies quantitatively among tree species. According to the results, the lignin content and functional group were determined separately. In addition, the chemical structure was not similar between softwood and hardwood. Lignin is one of the important chemical constituents of lignocellulosic materials in wood and it is one of the most abundant biopolymers in nature. The physical

Of all the magic wands out there, the one that chose Lexi Foland couldn’t be a more ideal match. Each of the elements in it almost mirror her character. Vine wood represents her desire to do big things in the world, like helping people so everybody has a house to live in and food to eat. She envisions herself doing this when she gets older. Also, this witch often surprises her parents when it comes to certain life skills. Unicorn hair is the perfect match for a core because it’s confident in the owner of the wand. It’s also the core that is most unwilling to do Dark Magic, which Lexi likes very much. This core produces reliable magic, too. Her wand’s length is thirteen inches, so it is long but not the longest. This is because she is short

They aren’t just string of words that with a wand create an instant outcome. In fact wiccan spells rarely if ever just require a wnd or have instant outcomes. Real magick comes in five different styles. They are nature, intrinsic, ceremonial, hermetic and kitchen magick. Nature magick focuses on working with the natural elements, besides fire, and uses the simplest of tools. Intrinsic magick focuses on development of your selves and uses the body and emotion as tools with this kind of magick. Ceremonial magick is the type of magick that focuses heavily on tool use and with hopes of spiritual gain. Hermetic is the easiest but also the most convoluted because practicing it is practicing a combination between philosophy and common magick. Finally there is kitchen witch magick, which is the most simple of them because it uses everyday items as tools to make life easier in daily life. These are the five most common ways to practice magick and most rarely practice outside the style that they follow, and there is no bad consequences for practicing out of the style they are working with. Also to witches themselves magick is a type of skill and as with most skills some people have more talent over others at first. Like with weatherworking or the ability to influence the weather in certain ways. Some versions of magick include tarot readings, divination, and of course spells. There are numerous spells that can affect; emotions, employment, luck, love, prosperity, safety, healing and more. Most of these spells are complex, involve a lot of ingredients and take time to begin taking effect. Amber K research has further added that when you read someone else’s spell, even the ones above, always ask yourselves three questions: “Is it ethical?” “Do I understand how it is meant to work, why it is organized as it is, and why it includes the things it does?” “How could I adapt it to work better for me?”.(Citation 1,
The hero is chosen based off of their desires. These desires, passions, and notions, align with the ideal person of the cultures that they come from. “The wand chooses the Wizard, Mr. Potter.” (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone). The magical weapons’ chosen user is not decided by the potential user, but rather, the weapon itself. “The ideal of judging a person based on “merits, actions, and morals”—as presented by Harry Potter—is juxtaposed with the oppositional view that only if one is pure-blood can he or she be granted any sort of high-level status in the Wizarding world. [...] From this perspective, there is a clear caste system at work in the Wizarding world of Harry Potter. At the top of this distorted system are the purebloods, families who descend from long lines of witches and wizards. Next are the half-bloods and mixed breeds. These are wizards and witches who have one parent that is a witch or wizard, and one parent that is either Muggle-born or another species [...]. Just below [...] are two rare circumstances: the completely Muggle-born witch or wizard and the Squib,” (University of Wisconsin). Harry Potter represents the ideal person for the culture of the wizarding world. Firstly, because he is ‘pure-blood,’ which is one seemingly integral part of the ideal person in this culture; secondly, Harry Potter stopped the ultimate super villain of their time, Lord
Classifying wood as either a hardwood or softwood comes down to its physical structure and makeup, and so it is overly simple to think of hardwoods as being hard and durable compared to soft and workable softwoods.
During these five years of high school in the IB program, I’ve had the chance to learn a lot about this educational program and the learner’s profile. For this final year, I was assigned to use everything I’ve learned about the IB to do a personal project. A project on a large scale that will show everything I’ve understood about the program. I decided to take a topic that I love and for which I am passionate, which is my native country.
