As a newborn photographer, there's nothing I love more than the opportunity to shoot a newborn with his or her big brother or sister. It's the beginning of a special bond that I get to capture on film for the family to remember for years to come.
Handsome Emmett Lee was a pleasure for this newborn photographer. At 6 days old, he was adorable, and his 21-month-old big sister, Molly was a joy as well. As a newborn photographer, there's nothing like a handsome, little boy with his loving big sister to photograph. While this was a newborn photo shoot, I had to get a shot of the two of them together. Apparently, Molly wasn't interested in seeing her little brother when he was born, but she warmed right up to him at home. She's often helping with
diaper changes and dispensing hugs and kisses, which she couldn't wait to do when I asked her to kiss him for this shot. Emmett's parents, Emily and Matt, met in high school but they didn't date until they reconnected years later in 2007. They were married on September 28, 2012. The couple didn't want to know the sex of either child during pregnancy, so they opted for gender neutral colors like green and orange. They've kept the same colors for Emmett's nursery as well. For this shoot, they asked that I keep to light blues and neutrals, and I was happy to oblige. As a newborn photographer, I'm happy when my families are happy. One of my favorite shots is the one where Emmett is posed in a light brown, knitted hat on a green knit blanket with an underlay of cream. The hat and the blanket are both from Riley's Mom Makes Hats. He looks comfortable and relaxed in this pose, which might be why I love it so much. Emily and Matt have a beautiful family with Molly and Emmett. It was a joy to work with their little girl Molly and handsome little man Emmett.
The first narrative I’ve chosen Is “The Look” by Larry Lehna. One part in the book where the author uses descriptive language (From “The Look”) “The burning pain of bullet wounds (they really do burn). The agony of stitches going into a fresh knife wound. The nearly immobilizing ache of broken ribs.” (196) The image of the “the burning pain of a bullet wound” and “the agony of stitches going into a fresh knife wound.” appeals to the sense of touch and feeling. I selected this particular passage because the author was able to describe the physical pain of a bullet wound and also the pain of the healing process. This passage gives me the reader a more personal experience to the story and connects you to the character, I had a feeling of empathy for the character and the experiences he had in prison.
Babies is a 2010 French film, by Thomas Balmes, that follows four babies from birth to their first steps around the world. Two of the babies are from rural areas: Panijao from Opuwo, Namibia, and Bayarjargal from Bayanchandmani, Mongolia. The other two babies are from urban areas: Mari from Tokyo, Japan, and Hattie from San Francisco, United States. This documentary is different because the whole film is from the babies perceptive. Everything that is shot is at the babies level. There is very little dialogue throughout this film. The focus is not on the parents at all. You will see the parent’s faces through out the film. But mostly all you see is nipples, arms, hands and their chest. You see the parts the baby tends to have the most interest
Neonatal nursing is a field of nursing designed especially for both newborns and infants up to 28 days old. The term neonatal comes from neo, "new", and natal, "pertaining to birth or origin”. Neonatal nurses are a vital part of the neonatal care team. These are trained professionals who concentrate on ensuring that the newborn infants under their care are able to survive whatever potential life threatening event they encounter. They treat infants that are born with a variety of life threatening issues that include instances of prematurity, congenital birth defects, surgery related problems, cardiac malformations, severe burns, or acute infection. Neonatal care in hospitals was always done by the nursing staff but it did not officially become a specialized medical field until well into 1960s. This was due to the numerous advancements in both medical care training and related technology that allowed for the improved treatment and survival rate of premature babies. According to the March of Dimes, one of every thirteen babies born in the United States annually suffers from low birth weight. This is a leading cause in 65% of infant deaths. Therefore, nurses play a very important role in providing round the clock care for these infants, those born with birth defects or other life threatening illness. In addition, these nurses also tend to healthy babies while their mothers recover from the birthing process. Prior to the advent of this specialized nursing field at risk newborn infants were mostly cared for by obstetricians and midwives who had limited resources to help them survive (Meeks 3).

Humankind has always held a certain fascination for babies. We see a baby and our automatic response is generally one along the lines of “awwe”. New mothers often experience an increase in attention from strangers when going out in public with their new children. The bottom line is we love babies. Their big eyes and general helplessness evokes a certain almost maternal desire in each of us. Aside from the obvious psychological and evolutionary science behind these emotions, infancy is a universally significant time that transcends all cultures. The documentary Babies choses to explore this time by examining four newborns and their mothers in Nambia, Mongolia, the United States, and Japan.
Octavia Estelle Butler was born on June 22, 1947 in Pasadena California. When she was younger, she was known as Junie because her mother and she had the exact same name. Her father was a shoeshine man until he past away. Her mother had to raise her on her own.
The 1700’s were a time for the pirates. All over the world, these thieves of the seven seas robbed cargo ships. Some of the major countries of the world often used their military to fight these pirates. Many pirates of this time earned reputations for being quite successful. It was Edward “Blackbeard” Teach who became one of the most successful pirates of all.
There are more than 70% of premature babies that are born between 34 and 36 weeks gestation a year. When a baby is born early, or born with birth defects, the Neonatal Intensive Care unit is its first home. The nurse’s in the NICU have the difficult job of preparing baby’s and parents for a health life together. A baby who has been put into the NICU will stay there until it is healthy enough to go home.
One must accept the fact that ones newborn has to live away from home, for the babies survival. Creating a home away from hope can make things seem smoother and one can cope better. Putting family photos around the incubator or personal clothing that one had bought, blankets, pajamas, etc. can make it easier to accept the situation and to look forward for a long healthy life together.
After viewing life’s greatest miracle I was shocked on how much work there is involved on creating a healthy child. Yes, I know any two people can be involved in this process, but it is all amazing on how a child is born. Anyone who has given birth knows it also consist of a lot of hard work in the delivery room as well as the years to follow. A child is a miracle given to us from God and the video shows all the stages in great detail and explains the process in steps anyone can understand.
Every since I can remember I have loved babies. They way they smell, the way they coo , but not the way they cry. I just love being around them it always brings out the best people. I have been babysitting since I was old enough to change a diaper. My grandmother who babysat for a while, would always let us help her in the summer time when we were out of school. If I wasn’t babysitting I was watching TLC’S BABY STORIES , show with my mother. I am one of a set of identical mirror twins, humans are amazing and I can not wait to be able to study them further and the art of baby development .
