Halloween is supposed to be a fun day. A day where you dress up as your favorite character, go trick or treating or partying with your friends. Halloween is supposed to be one of the best days of your life… right? Wrong! Let me tell you a story of how me and my best friends, Jax and Sidney got into some terrifying trouble on October 31st, 2017.
I recall waking up that morning as happy as can be, it was Halloween. The town of Blossomville that I lived in, always prepared decorations for Halloween. I looked over at my closet and my perfect Wonder Woman costume was laid out perfectly. Jax was going to be The Hulk and Sidney was going to be Tinkerbell. I started to get ready for school and met up with my friends at our usual spot where we walked

How about you Jax, sounds like a plan,” I asked.
Jax had a sly smile on his face, “Actually I was thinking instead of going to Chipotle we could go to, oh I don’t know, Old Man Milfred's house?”
“Is that a restaurant or something,” Sidney said. “No dummy” Jax scowled, “Let me tell you guys about Old Man Milfred. Old Man Milfred was a happy man with a happy wife, Lady Milfred. They lived in a beautiful home with exotic birds and exquisite flowers. The Milfreds loved everyone in town and everyone loved them. One day on Halloween, Old Man Milfred went out to buy more candy for the kids but when he came back he found Lady Milfred dead on the ground.” I gasped, “Then what happened?” “Old Man Milfred then grew bitter each year and so did his house. The once beautiful house soon became rancid and moldy. People claim that on Halloween Day Old Man Milfred would put razors in apples and give them to kids. Old Man Milfred died about 40 years ago but legend has it whoever goes to Old Man Milfred’s house on Halloween has crazy things happen to them. It’s probably not even real but it would be cool to check it out,” Jax

Sidney, Jax, and I walked for about seven minutes before we reached a part of Blossomville I’ve never encountered. The tone of the once vibrant town I knew turned into a listless, dull place. There was fog that made it almost impossible to see. After what seemed like hours of walking, we finally reached an unsightly house. You could see the mold Jax was talking about seeping through the cracks of windows. The color of the house was a dirty dark brown and the grass looked like it was crying for mercy. Jax had the nerve to say, “Come on guys are you just going to stare at it all day?”
“Are you insane? You’re actually thinking about going into that creepy house that looks like it’s going to eat us alive. I thought when you said ‘haunted house’ that it wasn’t really haunted,” Sidney exclaimed.
“Yeah, I don’t think we should go any closer to that house let’s just turn around and walk home. Actually, I think we still have time to make it to Chipotle if we walk fast enough,” I said checking my watch but when I looked up Jax was already walking towards the door. I cringed as I saw him swing the door open.
“See,” Jax said turning towards us, “There’s nothing to be frightened of it was all just a
Late autumn has arrived and with it comes the dark magic of Halloween--and, of course, the
When I learned that I would have to do my ethnographic report on what I did during Halloween, I was worried because I live in Turnpike and the most excitement that happens in turnpike is the sound of the garbage truck when it comes to pick up the Wednesday trash. Fortunately something did happen to me and I realized I would not have to write a boring paper of how I woke up and just stayed in my room the whole day. Well the day started off with me waking up and walking to the bathroom to take a shower, as soon as the turned the water on I realized I had left my shower and rather than turning off my shower I stayed in because the warmth of the hot water was too seductive for me to get out and get my towel. In the shower I had my usual thoughts about life, death, and comebacks to old arguments. Afterword I got out of my shower and reached for my toothbrush, which was located in a cupboard behind the toilet, but I grabbed at it too quickly and it fell in the toilet. I stood over my toilet for about five minutes just staring at my toothbrush in the toilet not believing what just happened, after that I started blaming myself for being too impatient. When I was done feeling sorry for myself I went into my room in search of another toothbrush but unluckily I couldn’t find one, so I had to go walk to the local store at around 7:30 in search of a toothbrush. While searching for a replacement toothbrush I realized that not that many people were in the store, I had always thought that stores were busiest in the morning and evening but apparently that’s not true. Once I got my new toothbrush I finished brushing, got dressed and went to catch the 11 to the Transit Center.
With the end of October and the beginning of November, two historically celebrated holidays come to pass. Each holiday has been celebrated for centuries, and each one continues to have a large impact on society. Interestingly, they developed in two separate civilizations from different hemispheres and occur around the same time. The two distinct holidays of Halloween and Day of the Dead both share similar origins and a focus on spiritual aspects and yet have still remained unique celebrations that continue to largely impact culture.
Some of the foods in the history of Halloween are pumpkins, turnips, apples, cake, nuts and kale. Turnips actually used to be carved instead of pumpkins, until the first Irish immigrants arrived in America, and found the much larger pumpkin. Apples were used by the Celts in divining “games”, and were seen as very powerful divining tools, especially when it came finding out who a marriage partner would be. The modern game bobbing for apples comes directly from this Celtic tradition. Cake, as was previously mentioned, was used as a “treat” for the people who would come around door to door. The same soul cakes were also offered to the spirits of the dead, believing that it would appease and nourish them during their long journey to the otherworld. The Celtic people also believed that unless the spirits were fed, they would harm the living. Nuts, especially chestnuts and walnuts, were considered to be very powerful divining tools. Kale, as well as cabbage and leeks, were also used as divining tools for telling the future. The amount of dirt that stuck to the stalk of the vegetables indicated the amount of fortune that one could expect from a mate (“Halloween Food
How the Opening Sequence of Halloween Captures the Attention of the Audience ' 'Halloween' was made in 1978 and is a good example of the 'Slasher' movies from that time and this is an interesting piece of cinema as it can be related to the German expressionism of the late 1920's which used jerky camera shots and high contrast lighting to enthrall the viewer .In this essay I will discuss how the opening to Halloween captures the audiences attention and how codes and conventions create suspense and tension for the audience.
I can’t hold in my excitement as I run to the foyer. Mom looks at me worriedly, but I ignore her and throw open the door before the person standing behind it can knock. He looks at me with boredom lacing his expression, obviously expecting my weird gift to tell the future. I quickly hug him and grab his pale hand, pulling him outside. Tonight is Halloween, and the only time my pale blonde friend visits me. He’s my first and only friend, so I don’t mind that he doesn’t play with me the other three hundred sixty-something days in the year.
Halloween was not supposed to be like that, it was supposed to be more like when I was a kid. Houses would be decorated, jack-o-lanterns would be sitting near doors, and
Everybody celebrates Halloween, but some people might celebrate the spooky holiday in a variety of ways. Most people celebrate this holiday by going door to door asking the greeters for candy while in their costumes. Others may see the night as an advantage to play pranks on others or even to create public haunted houses or haunted trails. For people that like to hold public events, they may create costume parties. For those that are either lazy or they just don’t want to participate in the events, they may spend the night by staying in their houses and doing an activity of their own. Most do not know this, but Halloween was originally a holiday to honor loved ones who passed.
This is a very hot topic issue with me! And I truly hope many others that either haven’t spoken out against it yet, or haven’t known how to speak against it. Really start? Maybe, it’s because somehow so few have been educated on halloween’s history. Or the history of witches and witchcraft in our Country and around the world. Why, is it that so many attach or try to attach witches with Halloween? Witches have been seen in books and movies as ugly, evil and cruel! They were never suppose to become role models to our society, or children ever! In fact most don’t know what really has happened in there secret meetings, because they remain secret for a very specific
When Halloween approaches, I feel the air becoming cooler and the nights becoming longer. Clouds over lap the moon creating an eerie look in the sky. Children grow more and more excited to put on their costumes, and they spend one night out of the whole year going door to door getting free candy. As I have grown up over the years, Halloween is celebrated differently for me. I always notice that even though it is celebrated differetly the people haven’t changed and that’s what makes it memorable.
I can remember October 25th like it was yesterday. I had just finished applying the final touches to my halloween costume for the party next door that was put together for the homeschoolers. I was Penelope Garcia from Criminal Minds. I had waved my parent’s Goodbye as I put on my red sparkly headband. When I walked out the door I was immediately cold. As most girls know, it is not how warm you are in your costume that matters, it is how adorable you look in it that makes up for your goosebumps. I walked next door to the very familiar brickhouse. I had lived here since I was 6 and was now 12 years old. As I walked onto the neighbor's yard I began to see many ordinary faces. All the people in my homeschool group were very loyal. I had been apart
My 29 year old brother was born on october 31.(we still can’t decide whether he is a trick or a treat) . He was born with a disorder called asperger's which is a form of autism. He was also born with an obsession for haunted houses. Every halloween he begged my mom to let us go to the nightmare factory set up by the salem oregon deaf school. The nightmare factory is a very popular haunted house that thousands of people from all over the country travel to oregon to experience the thrill.
“Ooooooo! Maybe it is the ghost of the lady who died here before we moved in. mwaha-ha, ha!”Danny says.
America has many days dating back in history which need to be celebrated. To illustrate, the fourth of July is very important to Americans because it is the the day they have gained their independence and freedom. Celebrating the most memorable day of the country, citizens have made fireworks and barbeque a tradition every year with family and friends. The fourth of November,Thanksgiving, is also commemorated by fellow Americans with a traditional and delicious turkey. Inhabitants of America reminisce on their life and share what they are thankful for. This day holds plenty of joyous feelings. Soaring with high creativity, Halloween is a holiday that allows children (or even adults) to dress up as witches, monsters, or other characters besides
Halloween never was my favorite holiday. When I was little, my dad was the main one who threw up decorations and forced the rest of the family to get into the Halloween spirit. However, my lack of costume proved to my father it wasn't my forte.
