Hair Artists
Without them we'd all be bald. You either need, know one or perhaps are one. What am I talking about you ask? Hair artists. Only a few of us can envision a design on the head of someone and successfully accomplish it. Only a few of us could possibly do it on our own heads. It's a talent no matter what, a talent that is sometimes ignored and at times not thought too highly of. I call hairstylists hair artists because they share their art of creation and imitation for many people on a daily-basis.
Ever since I can remember my father, Jack, had been cutting men and women's hair. He was a locally known barber/stylist and artist. My father had paintings all on the walls of different buildings around town and had three hanging up in a hallway of my elementary school. Just like him, I could draw and sketch. I can remember being in first grade, telling my whole class I was going to be an artist like my daddy when I grew up (like my father I gained notoriety also, at my elementary school for having won poster contests, designed doors for teachers and sketches at the requests of classmates). With his lifestyle being my goal as a youngster, I'd never considered the work he performed on his customer's heads as art. He would sculpt, through cutting and styling, and design people's hair (some asked for etchings and other images in their head), but I never had a second thought that it would be something I wanted to do in the future. I didn't think this form of sculpture was an art form. That is to say, until my study on hairstylists.
Some called me talented when they found out I'd designed the different hairstyles on my. An exact statement was, "You are just multi-talented." This was from a co-worker who only saw the different styles I wore on my hair. I'd just walked in with a different hairstyle than I'd had the previous week. I just brushed it off saying, "Its easy anybody can do it." When my boyfriend watched me braid a few people's hair he bragged about it to his family members, saying I was very "talented."
I later came to the realization that styling hair was an art form that required talent. This notion came about through my study and a series of interviews I had with a few hair artists.

There are many different types of careers in the cosmetology field. The different types are; hairstylist, perm or hair color specialist, manicurist, pedicurist, barber, or esthetician. Anyone can major in one of these careers, multiple ones, or all of them. It doesn't matter how many they major in, they will still be considered a cosmetologist. To get a major in cosmetology, it is required to take a class in the career you are interested in. A typical cosmetology training program typically lasts nine months to about a year. Students are instructed on hair styling and cutting, scalp treatments, hair color, manicures and pedicures, chemical texture services, acrylic nail application, massages, facials, and eyebrow shaping. A student then takes advanced courses to expand their knowledge in this career. These courses may include studies on scalp disorders and diseases, scalp analysis, color application techniques, hair cutting tools, main principles of hair design, hair removal, massage techniques and benefits, cosmetology law and safe work practice. Once the course is finished, including service hours, the person then has to take and pass a state exam on the course. Once the exam is passed, the person then receives their certificate.
In order to thoroughly understand the significance of assistive technology in special education, it is important to understand what an IEP is. An IEP is a mandated document for public schools called an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Each IEP must be designed for one student and must be a truly individualized document. The IEP creates an opportunity for teachers, parents, school administrators, and related services personnel to work together to improve educational results for children with disabilities. It is a legal document specific to each individu...

In the 1800s the industrial revolution began and with it came the agricultural revolution. As time passed, people demanded more and more meat and dairy. Eventually, factory farming emerged. Factory farming called for more intensive farming, meaning more animals in a very small area to maximize profits, at the animals’ expense that is. Factory farming in Ohio is highly detrimental to the surroundings and humans, not to mention its ethical flaws2 (Figure 3). As a result, today’s environment is polluted with carbon monoxide emissions, runoff pollution, and disease and much of this meat can cause health complications. This runoff can contaminate drinking water with fecal matter or antibiotics fed to the animals to increase their growth (Figure
The demand in recent years for the food industry to provide food quickly, cheaply, and efficiently has initiated the rise of factory farming. Factory farming is the exceedingly unethical practice of raising livestock in high quantities in tightly confined spaces. It is essentially treating a farm as if it were a factory and animals as mere commodities that need to be unassembled. Factory farming has replaced the family farms with rolling green pastures portrayed in children’s book. 99% of all meat, milk, and eggs produced in America come from factory farms. Most Americans are oblivious to how their food got from the farm to their plate. This makes it easy for the factory farming industry to get away with unimaginably cruel and unethical practices. Modern farms blatantly cause inhumane and unimaginable suffering to the animals confined within them, are insufficient at feeding the population, and have a devastating effect on the environment.
It's been kind of a full-circle life. I grew up in a craft-centric family. My mother and my grandmother both taught me how to crochet and to make rag rugs and do latch hook. All very early on. In middle school, I remember my dad built a craft room for me off our garage. I would spend every day after school and all summer long in that craft room tackling every sort of DIY. I was very arts-focused. When I went off to Princeton, I realized that I couldn't be a crafts maker for a career, and so I pursued architecture, which for me had a lot of the same principles of building, making and creating.
It has often been said that hair weaves are typically thought to be used by African Americans. Weaving is a technique that consist of sewing artificial or human hair that has been sewn onto a weft onto braids or a weaving net. Would you rather have food available for everyone with the possibility of diseases or having a possible food shortage, but the food will be safe to eat? How about changing the way food is produce or keeping it the same? In the film Food Inc., Robert Kenner tires to answer these conversational questions by examining corporate farms across America. Kenner shows the industrial production of meat where some people are okay with feeding animals antibiotics while others are not because it causes the meat to be unhealthy. The problem that arises is whether or not the mass production of food is abusive for the animals causing the food to become unhealthy. If this is true and the mass production of is abusive and makes the food unhealthy then the Food
“In the United States, over nine billion chickens are killed each year for food, along with more than a hundred million pigs, and tens of millions of cattle.”(Welty, 2007) With so many animals being killed every year, how are they being raised and processed? The majority of these animals come from factory farms, which are facilities that hold lots of animals so they can maximize production while minimizing costs. “Scientists have shown that the practice of factory farming is an increasingly urgent danger to human health, the environment, and nonhuman animal welfare.”(Pluhar, 2010)

What is Talent? “Talent is a natural aptitude or skill” (World English Dictionary). Everybody has their own and unique talent hidden inside them, some people may be lucky enough to find out what their talent is during their journey, while others are not. In my opinion everyone has a specific talent however, most of the individuals do not know or have found their talents, or at least have problems describing them. Perhaps it is because talents are reflexive meaning that they are unpredictable, they are like the air we breathe which causes us to take them for granted. People always say, “Oh, you were born to be a basketball player!” but an individual is not born with a basketball in their hands, nobody was ever born ready to complete a specific task although talent ...
From the beginning of this agricultural phenomena, we have been led to believe that factory farms( Also known as CAFOs-Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations) are supremely efficient. Factory farming began in the 1920’s due to new, industrial farming techniques. Because of new discoveries and methods, crops were now cheaper and easier to produce. Because more grain was available, in turn, more animals could be fed. The factory farming method produced more food and made large corporations more money. (“Factory Farming”) While this may sound like factory farming can only benefit the population, scientists have found the opposite. For example, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, agriculture is the chief cause of water pollution and contamination, due to the intense chemicals this industry uses. This exposes farm workers, wildlife, and citizens of the U.S. as a whole to toxic pesticides. These same chemicals degrade soil for future use, and drains our nation’s natural resources by using about 16% of all the energy used in the U.S. (Union of Concerned Scientists) Factory farming lacks sustainability, but also efficiency. Cattle require about 13 pounds of feed to produce just one pound of beef. (Rodale Institute) This fact alone, shows us that factory farming is not advantageous to our society and our
