Recent studies have shown that more than fifty percent of Americans divorce because of infidelity and adultery in their marriage (Solomon and Teagno). H.M. Coakley directed the film, Adulterers, in 2015 to show his audience how marriages function when there is infidelity and adultery involved. The film is based on a true story and it portrays a family where a wife performs infidelity and adultery. In agreement with the ten commandments of the Bible, a spouse should not cheat or lie to their companion. Ashley did not abide by those commandments, so she eventually found out her punishment because God cannot bear destruction. She tries to persuade her husband in believing she was raped by her father when she was younger. If Ashley loved her husband like she says she does, then she would not have been sleeping with her lover that she met on a dating site. Also, her facial expressions make it seems as if she did not care about cheating on Samuel. Ashley’s character is not very well developed in the sense that she is defending her partner and does not want her husband to kill him. For example, Samuel held a gun to the partner’s head and Ashley cried, “No baby, please do not shoot him, he has a wife and a baby on the way (Adulterers).” The way she reacts to certain situations would make a viewer wonder if she really loved him or just married him so she would have somewhere to …show more content…

Ashley failed to follow two of the ten commandments such as, “Thou shalt not commit adultery and Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's (King James Version, Exodus 20:14-17). The Bible states that one should not cheat on their husband or wife, and Ashley committed adultery because she cheated on her husband with another man that was married also. During a scene, Ashley and Damien were caught having sex in bed where she and her husband laid their heads. Also, the Bible states that you should not covet. Again, Ashley did not obey her husband and was sleeping with other men. Although, Ashley was the least believable character, Samuel also disrespected the Bible. In Exodus, the twentieth chapter states: “thou shalt not kill,” and Samuel wanted to murder both Damien and Ashley for infidelity (King James Version, Exodus
