Gustave Dore was one of the most famous Illustrators of his time. Dore Illustrated many works by famous authors and brought their stories back to life. His most famous illustration was the Dante’s Inferno story. His pictures told the story just as well as what was written in the story. Gustave Dore illustrations gave a more in depth view into the stories that he illustrated.
The life of Gustave Dore was one filled with art. He was born in Strasbourg France on January 6th 1833. By 1855 Dore was planning to start on illustrations for the “Inferno”. The reason why Dore decided to do this was because of the publics renewed entrance in Dante’s “Inferno.” Gustave Dore made his illustrations by using the old vignette woodblock method. There are ten steps to creating a print for each picture. Step one is to draw the picture that the person want to use then carve it on to the wood block. Step two is to get the print paper and cut it to the size of the block. Step three is to wet the paper and set it out to dry. Step four is to use a paint roller and put ink all over it. Step five is to use the paint roller with ink all over it and use it on the wood block. Step six is to go back to the wet paper and clean up any water that is sitting on it, so that is damp. Step seven is to take the woodblock with ink and put it on the wet paper and put pressure on it. Step eight is to carefully flip the paper over so that the woodblock is on the bottom and the paper is on the top. Step nine is to rub the woodblock and paper together with a baren. The last step is to slowly peel the paper away from the woodblock. Dore did the “inferno” with his own money because his publisher was cautious with his project. He finished his work in 1861 much to the surprise of his
Philippe Petit changed numerous peoples’ thoughts about the Twin Towers when he performed his high wire walk between them in 1974. Before Philippe Petit walked the high wire between the Twin Towers in 1974, people weren’t certain how they felt about the construction of the World Trade Center. After Philippe performed, people began to warm up to the idea of the towers. Philippe Petit walked the high wire between the Twin Towers on August 7, 1974. This event prompted Andrew McMahon to write the song “Platform Fire” about this event for his band, Jack’s Mannequin. This song was not a hit for the band; however, fans of Jack’s Mannequin seem to have a special place in their heart for it.

The painting, the Way of Salvation was created between the years of 1365-1368 by Andrea da Firenze and is located in the region of Florence Italy. This picture, a religious painting, demonstrates the fresco technique and shows the role of Dominicans and the struggle for salvation (Davies 463). Religious Paintings were often “categorized as historical paintings and therefore the most prestigious genre by the French Academie de peinture et de sculpture” (Way of Salvation). They also depicted “incredibly detailed biblical scenes and generally large in size” (Way of Salvation). This time period followed the Black Death and saw many different types of tombs and chapels be endowed so that people and communities would have a place to be buried.
Leonardo Da Vinci was a famous artist, mathematician, engineer, and philosopher. Many people describe him as the perfect archetype for the man during the renaissance. Born in Vinci, Italy in 1452, Da Vinci has influenced many present day artists and is one of the most well known artists of the renaissance. During his lifetime, Da Vinci created many famous journals with anatomical drawings, inventions, and writing. One of the drawings found in his one of his many journals is the Vitruvian Man. Over time, his drawing has become one of the most well-known icons for the renaissance. Named after the first century B.C.E Roman architect Vitruvius, this drawing depicted a man with what Vitruvius described in one of his books as the ideal proportions for a man. Based off of notes from Vitruvius’s book, the drawing showed a man standing up straight with his arms spread out, on top of that pose, Da Vinci drew the man in a pose with his arms reaching slightly above his head, and his legs spread (this is usually called spread eagle). The actual drawing is shown below.
Do you have a love for a sport or hobby that you been playing since you were very young? Well, Simone Biles had been having a love for gymnastics since she was just six years old and she started training at eight years old with her coach Aimme Boorman. Simone Biles had the best Olympics because she won the most medals out of all the gymnasts that competed and she dedicates 300 days out of the whole year training. However, people think Michael Phelps did the best because he won the most gold medals out of all USA Olympic medalist.
Albrecht Durer completed the “Master Engravings” in the years 1513 and 1514. With these three engravings (Knight, Death, and Devil, St. Jerome in His Study, and Melencolia I) he reached the high point of his artistic expression and concentration. each print represents a different philosophical perspective on the “worlds” respectively of action, spirit, and intellect. Although Durer himself evidently did not think of the three as a set, He sometimes sold or gave St. Jerome and Melencolia I as a pair.

Albrecht Dürer took printmaking to a new level, to a form of fine art all its own. Melencolia I, along with other prints proved to be far more superior to prints made in the past. Though Dürer grew up in Germany, visits to Italy heavily influenced his artistic style and thirst for artistic expression (Met Museum). Not only did he strive for artistic perfection, he also excelled in other forms of math and science, which carried over into his theories of geometry and perspective in his art. His methods made him an iconic figure on the...
Equally skilled at both painting and printing, he created remarkable works of each. He documented his life through self portraits, which he sketched at age thirteen and painted at ages twenty-six and twenty-eight. Dürer’s woodcut print Melencolia Ⅰ is regarded as one of the greatest of all time. But possibly his most detailed artwork portrays a bird’s single wing in all its glory. I selected this painting, titled Wing of a Roller, because it is incredibly detailed, colorful, and beautiful.
45 million Americans live in poverty and rely on government subsidies to get by. Medicaid is a governmental health care program that offers care to those in poverty. Right now over 60% of all patients use Medicaid to cover their procedures received at a Planned Parenthood facility. These include preventive measures such as breast and ovarian cancer screening, HIV testing and contraception methods. The facilities do provide abortions, but it is only a small portion of all the other procedures performed and they are all safe and legal upheld by the Supreme Court Case, Roe v Wade. Many people oppose the services offered by institutions such as Planned Parenthood, but it is an important facility that should not be defunded further because it provides
The works of Caravaggio were created in what is known as the Baroque period and are unique in the fact that the artist used an intense form of naturalism in which he included all of a figure’s natural imperfections. It was because of this that the artist, although undoubtedly skilled at his craft, did not receive very many commissions. But this is not as to say he received none. He occasionally was hired to create works for the church, as his realism brought the religious figures and beings of the past to life for the contemporary viewer. In his captivating altarpiece, The Entombment of Christ (1607), Michelangelo Merisi de Caravaggio uses high contrast light effects, diagonals, and a strikingly shallow picture plane to create a visually dynamic scene and bring the feelings of despair out into the world of the viewer as personified by the figures.
Beginning in 1904, René Lacoste was born in Paris, France. He was a tennis player and businessman. He was nicknamed "the Crocodile" by fans because of his action on the court. From 1925 to 1929, Lacoste won ten grand slam titles at the French Open, Wimbledon and Forest Hills. In 1926, inspired by his nickname, he asked his friend Robert George to design a crocodile, and it made its first appearance embroidered on a blazer of Lacoste's.
This semester has brought us many different styles of art overall, they have many inspirations that they have been a part of and a unique style to them. Albrecht Durer was a great painter during his time and created works of art that can be seen for centuries that tells so much about that culture and what was really important overall. Not just a painter but good at printmaking, engraving, and mathematics, he was also a theorist, a prolific writer on viewpoint and the proportions of the humanoid body.
