Growing Up In Africa

Growing up in Africa taught me to always reach for greater things in life. African parents always feel like their children should become doctor, lawyers, or engineers. I do not know if it is all because people in those fields make good money, or if they have other reasons to explain their thoughts. Maybe they just want their children to have a better future than they did. For me, choosing nursing was not difficult because both of my parents worked in the in the medical field.
My father was a doctor and he owned a small clinic. My mother was the head nurse in my father’s clinic. My parents always encouraged my siblings and I to do something in the medical field in the future. This might have been the reason why they always took us to the clinic

whenever it was possible. We ended up seeing some small medical procedures being performed, which made the medical field seem more exciting than some other careers.
Math and science have always been my favorite subjects in school. Growing up and finding out that those two subjects are the base of all the careers in the medical field helped me take another step into choosing nursing. I have never failed any science or math class in my whole school history. I took more than five science classes since starting high school. All the projects and material that I did in those science classes that I took were so interesting and fun which helped me feel that I was ready to go into nursing.
Another course that helped me finalize my plans to go into nursing is Health Careers. The class is filled with so many medical materials that I always look forward to going into that class every day. The teacher is so kind and she helps each individual person with whatever they need to reach their goals. She pushes all her students to be better people that are always prepared. She also invited people who currently have different jobs in the medical field to give us more information about their jobs. This process was so amazing because those people told us things that they do that would not be found in job descriptions.
After almost four years of high school, I finally decided that I will become nurse that works with children. I have decided to go to a community college to get my associates degree in nursing then to a university to complete the bachelors of science in nursing degree. This way, I can save some money so that I do not end up with so many loans after college.
