Currently, it is proving to be difficult to find skilled psychotherapist in setups that deal with HIV patients, where taking care of the psychological issues of the patients is highly imperative. The need of the hour is for the researches to focus on the psychological interventions by skilled psychotherapists for rendering service to the HIV/AIDS
While sharing and caring provide the basis for support groups, there's one benefit from group therapy that patients can't overlook. As a student, practice is crucial to learn group therapy techniques. In order to achieve these practices, I attended 2 support groups of the same topic. Observation and attendance constructs an idea of how group therapy works. Attending this group was important because of the profoundness of its meaning and experiences I have witnessed.
Once the group has established its existence and set up group norms, first and foremost, it is the interaction between members and how they negotiate the interchange of the group norms that lead them to therapeutic success. Displaying acceptance, support, universality, advice, interpersonal learning, altruism and hope among the group members is the goal of the group. Affecting change is possible when considering these therapeutic factors when group members express their feelings.
A mental health counselor develops a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families and groups to accomplish mental health and career goals. Helping others to accomplish their goals and listening to various stories of hardship have always played a part in my life. Stories of others have helped me get through rough times, and so did my own personal stories do the same for others. My story may help save a life tomorrow. It is a rewarding career path that one may enjoy which requires excellent communication skills and a commit between each other.
When I first seek out for therapy, it was interesting and scary. I made my first appointment and I was anxious and upset during my visit. I did a 20 minutes interview over the phone before my first initial office visit. My intake worker that assess my caseload allowed me to know her briefly, and let me know she would not be my therapist, but allowed me to accept the rules, polices, and therapist assigned to me. As the article stated, “explain what therapy is, how it works, and answer questions about what the client can expect from therapy in general and from therapy with you.”

The debate about the effectiveness of Individual versus group psychotherapy remains silent. Research demonstrates that group therapy is on par with individual therapy in the delivery of meaningful benefits to clients (Yalom & Leszcz, 2005, Evidence, 2012). No discussion about the effectiveness of group therapy would be complete without reference to the therapeutic factors (Barker, 2009). The interdependent nature of the therapeutic factors means that grading their importance is an exercise in subjectivity. Despite this, the factors of interpersonal learning and group cohesiveness are, in the writer’s opinion, cornerstones in the delivery of meaningful benefits to clients.
As always, we at BMHC strive to provide quality care to all of our clientele. We aim to deliver effective coping mechanisms due to the particular stressors that are present within urban youth. Lately, there has been an influx of African American youths that have either been mandated to use our services or have decided to see a therapist on their own. While speaking with some of the youth and seeing some of the negative changes that are occurring in the particular area we serve – the West Farms area, I feel there is a need to be proactive about the challenges African American youth face and formulate solutions to these trials.
Individual counseling, the client is working on personal issues without having to share with others, but only with the counselor that is there to reinforce patterns of behavior, or to help make any other personal adjustments. Many people are not comfortable talking in a group, especially issues that are hurting and need personal attention. Person Centered Therapy is approach based on the basic assumption that people can resolve their own problems. This therapy is like concepts and values with existential perspectives that people are trustworthy. They can move forward that with personal growth without direction interventions on the therapist part. “From the beginning, Rogers emphasized the attitudes and personal characteristics of the therapist and the quality of the client-therapist relationship as prime determinants of the outcome of the therapeutic process” (Corey, G. 2017, p.165). In addition, I have also understood the power of strength based approach, how strength based therapy used in relationships an essential factor among group members. I view this class as the opportunity to practice how effectively work with groups and individuals to understand their own inherent power. Therefore, I learned the way of using a strengths-based approach; I can highlight the assets of group members, offering building blocks which can then lay the foundation of their social change.
