Maybe now we can see that segregation in the Greek system can be a problem. It is left not up one but to all to take a stand, step outside the boundaries, and acknowledge the fact that segregation and discrimination is wrong. There is a problem and as with all other problems it will not be solved on its own. It takes hard work and a genuine effort to make a difference. In no way is the racial separation among the fraternities and sororities helping to solve the worldwide issues of discrimination. Hopefully in the very near future we can look past the color of skin. Using something so petty as skin color to separate people is only holding us back. Those who still use skin color as a way to judge a person are living a life of ignorance. If we are unable to get past such an issue than we will never be able to grow as individuals and as a nation to our full potential.
That being said when people see Greek letter’s that means something to them. They may interpreted another way from someone who is or is not affiliated with certain organizations, being in a certain group the letter are assigned a symbolic meaning. These letters to some may mean family or a strong bond to a group, and others may see them as cool letters. In this paper I am going to write about Greek Americans. My paper will include detail about Greek Americans such as residence and housing, date and place of origin, economic activities, education, kinship, traditions and religion as well as their future in the United States.
The Greeks were notorious for their disability to unite. In Ancient Greece, the Greek would never have considered themselves as Greek. They were loyal to their city state. There were at least three main reasons for the Greeks’ inability to unite, which are the geographical region of the land, the competitiveness of the people, and extreme narcissism.
Greek organizations are debatably the most undervalued and misconceived aspect of college campuses. Most people don’t see the benefits that fraternities and sororities bring to college campuses and their communities. Some see these organizations as large beneficial clubs and others see them as potential problems. Many of the allegations put forth by individuals that discredit the benefits and good deeds done by Greek organizations are weak justifications for their removal from college campuses. Greek organizations provide campus communities with academically responsible students, philanthropic activities and increase community involvement.

On 1929, the GOCMV had finally established its Saturday ‘Greek School’ after some years of unexpected complications which caused suspension of school’s formation. The purpose and the idea of a ‘Greek School’ to ‘foster and embrace the Hellenic ethos’, as highlighted by Archimandrite Kassimatis, endured through the following years. After the second world war, the mass migration of Greeks to Melbourne increased the demand of Greek schooling and GOCMV expanded its school campuses across the city. Today, Greek language, culture, and history are taught through eight campuses. Those campuses cover the areas such as Albert Park, Alphington, Balwyn, Doncaster, Toorak, Vermont South, Melbourne CBD and Malvern East. A great number of those students are the third or fourth generation of a Greek origin. Hence, Melbourne CBD and Malvern East campuses started their operation the last four to five years ago and they attract students who are advanced in speaking and understanding the Greek language. Some of the students, who are enrolled, are of a third or fourth generation of Greek origin yet a great number of students have recently moved from Greece and they seek to continue their Greek School beside the daily Australian one.
On page 234 in our text in-kind resources are defined as, “when people, businesses, or organizations give you things or services you need instead of money”. Some in-kind resources that could be available to the group are restaurants in the community to help with various parts of the restaurant. For example, a chef could come teach a class on how to make an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Another example, restaurants or maybe a farmer’s market could donate ingredients to make the dishes with. I think the best place for the group to start looking would be in the local restaurant community.
Your food pantry also needs to make sure they send out lots of letters and notifications to the local schools, so that the parents will be aware of the food pantry and know what is going on. The last thing that you can do is put flyers up in all your local stores in your community. You need to make sure that you do this so everyone will be aware of you, if they ever need some extra help. This will help all the people that may eventually need some help in their future.
