According to Allen and Derr (2015), natural surveillance is included in the physical design giving the capacity for detection opportunities (p. 112). Therefore, security, location and function of the Grand Gulf Nuclear station is important for access control systems and duress alarms. An access control system for this station allows for the detection of authorized personnel and allowing selected personnel access to only area need. Additionally, as a part of the high-tech element are duress alarms and these alarms allow for exposure of any elements linked into the river or unauthorized personnel. Furthermore, this increases the opportunity to recognize people attempting to commit a crime and limits access to the premises (Allen & Derr, 2015, p. 112). system and duress alarm allow for the Grand Gulf Nuclear station to ensure the security of the facility and employees. Low-Tech As with high-tech elements there is a need to focus on the low-tech elements of the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station.
This station has numerous gates and barriers and mechanical and electronic turnstiles. As elements under low-tech gates and barriers are important for hardening the area. Allen and Derr (2015) noted that target hardening increases the efforts of an offender to commit a crime, which helps prevent crime (p. 213). Consequently, mechanical and electronic turnstiles entries and exist are part of the target hardening ensure that criminal are not able to enter the facility.
No-Tech
Over the years, the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station has seen an increase in the amount of security violation and accidental spillage of hazardous waste into the Mississippi River. Within the no-tech elements, staff training and security awareness program, are important to continue to improve countermeasures of this station. These two areas allow for better safety and security for the station and build the efficiency of the station employers. This also ensures the surrounding communities the importance of staff training and security awareness and their safety in the case of an attack or incident.
Deter or Adjust
Behavior Each critical element selection will help to both deter and adjust behavior of the criminal and employees of the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station. While focusing on the high-tech elements of access control systems and duress alarms helps to ensure the correct people are in the right places and if someone is not you can identify them and have them removed. Additionally, this provides security for the areas. This also aids with the low-tech elements, vehicle gates and barrier and mechanical and electronical turnstiles by providing an external and internal plan for safety. Therefore, no-tech elements, staffing training and security awareness program are the most important of the critical elements. Those two areas will help prevent or improve areas of concerns and help build an efficient team. Recommendation The recommended Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) strategy for the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station is natural surveillance. The elements chosen helps prevent, deter, and adjust the behavior of criminals that are in the process of attacking the facility. Furthermore, natural surveillance enhances the security and safety of the facility to allow for focus on the critical elements. According to Allen and Derr (2015), the installation of security guards, video cameras, access control for entrances and exits, fencing, lighting and landscape creates an environment that deter, adjust, and gives limited opportunity for a crime to take place (p. 112).
Physical and environmental security programs are generally considered to be a collection of mechanisms and controls put into place that help ensure the availability of information technology capabilities. These programs protect an organization from fire, flood, theft, power failure, intentional, and even unintentional damage through negligence. Implementation of these programs at the organizational level can take place in a number of ways but most organizations choose to follow the application of a body of standards, usually set forth by an organization such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Once such body of standards put forth by ISO/IEC is 27002, Information technology – Security techniques – Code of practice for information secur...
These cells all face a secured central area. Technology plays a major role in keeping the facility up to the highest security standards. Every cell’s doors are controlled remotely and the cells include “video surveillance, motion detection and exterior lighting” (Berge). With these technological security measures, there are also procedural precautions. Inmates are kept in their cells for 23 hours a day until their sentences are completed.

Previous centuries did not have to contend with or plan for the failure of electronic components, or the threats poses to the modern age as a result of the introduction of the nuclear/chemical age. These technologies and the introduction of terrorism into the risk management equation results in a complicated management problem of identifying, assessing, and preparing for the effects of the failures of modern technology. Emerging technological advances continue to change the planning cause the emergency management community to adapt to and identify new tools to manage technological risk (Haddow, Bullock, Coppola,

The purpose of this CERT IS-317 course was to prepare individuals not part of the professional disasters relief field to help in the event of a disaster. These everyday individuals become part of a team that can aid in preparing their families, neighbors, and coworkers for the threat of a disaster. CERT program participants become familiar with disaster preparedness, fire safety, hazardous chemical awareness, disaster medical operations, terroristic threats, and search and rescue procedures. Following the completion of this course and along with hands-on class room course experience the CERT participants will be valuable aids to professionals during a disaster (CERT Training Manual, 2011).
(Brosnahan 2013) The spending cost for prisons have been discussed, the following was said “The federal government has undertaken a plan to spend $600 million on 2,700 new cells in prisons across Canada, but that will take several years. At the same time, the government has announced cuts to the budget of the correctional service” (Brosnahan 2013). Consequently, because the correctional budgets are cut, construction for expansion of prisons is the temporary solution. Similarly, due to the decrease in budget it requires more correctional staff to overlook those inmates. The corrections system is not able to hire more staff because of the lower budget, making it more dangerous inside penitentiaries to stay under control. With this increase in prisoners, penitentiaries have a risk of constant increase in violence among inmates and even staff. (Brosnahan 2013) As stated above the environment within the penitentiary is critical as well as the security of correctional staff and offenders. Due to the simple fact of having overpopulated prisons, everyone’s safety is at risk. Also making it difficult for frontline staff to keep order, security and healthy environment while still trying to keep the rights of prisoners in mind at all times.

The main focus of prisons in the United States is to maintain order in an inherently hostile environment
Prison was designed to house and isolate criminals away from the society in order for our society and the people within it to function without the fears of the outlaws. The purpose of prison is to deter and prevent people from committing a crime using the ideas of incarceration by taking away freedom and liberty from those individuals committed of crimes. Prisons in America are run either by the federal, states or even private contractors. There are many challenges and issues that our correctional system is facing today due to the nature of prisons being the place to house various types of criminals. In this paper, I will address and identify three major issues that I believe our correctional system is facing today using my own ideas along with the researches from three reputable outside academic sources.
The energy industry is beginning to change. In today’s modern world, governments across the globe are shifting their focuses from traditional sources of power, like the burning coal and oil, to the more complex and scientific nuclear power supply. This relatively new system uses powerful fuel sources and produces little to no emissions while outputting enough energy to fulfill the world’s power needs (Community Science, n.d.). But while nuclear power seems to be a perfect energy source, no power production system is without faults, and nuclear reactors are no exception, with their flaws manifesting in the form of safety. Nuclear reactors employ complex systems involving pressure and heat. If any of these systems dysfunctions, the reactor can leak or even explode releasing tons of highly radioactive elements into the environment. Anyone who works at or near a nuclear reactor is constantly in danger of being exposed to a nuclear incident similar to the ones that occurred at the Chernobyl and Fukushima Daiichi plants. These major accidents along with the unresolved problems with the design and function of nuclear reactors, as well as the economic and health issues that nuclear reactors present serve to show that nuclear energy sources are not worth the service that they provide and are too dangerous to routinely use.
Health and Safety and the Fire Emergency Policy are the most important procedures in my work place. As a new employee at my company Atos, I have received the induction training to health and safety and fire safety. On the first day I was taken through some training with the health and safety officer and was shown a presentation of the safety procedures. The objective of this was to ensure that I understood the following, to be aware of the Atos commitment to health and safety, understand my responsibilities regarding health and safety, understand fire and emergency procedures and be able to recognise hazards in my working environment.
Regulation compliance, employee safety, fire safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, hazardous waste removal, training procedures, and management relations are samples of features taken into consideration during a Safety Major’s day. Though there are numerous specializations safety professions can choose, a base knowledge in all fields is essential for a successful career. Therefore, I intend to pursue a continuation of safety certifications that will demonstrate a persistent ability to learn about my career. For the initial duration of my profession, I hope to obtain an Environmental Health and Safety specialist entry level position for an established organization. If the opportunity arises, I will promote within the same organization until
