First, spelling does not equal grammar. Second, we do use proper grammar every time we speak or write but most of us do not even know it. Every languages have some kind of grammatical machinery, such as nouns, verbs, auxiliaries and agreements Most of us don’t think about it even when we are speaking or talk even in our native languages. In the article by Kyle Wein “I Won’t Hire People Who Use Poor Grammar. Here’s Why.” explains reasons as to why the owner of a business only hires educated, employees. If someone cannot tell the difference between simple words such as there, their, and they’re, the manager will not hire that applicant. That’s not the only thing Wein looks for in an employee. Children were taught to speak in a proper manner and because they were taught to speak correctly they wrote in a proper way as well. As technology evolved and texting came more profound grammar was becoming a lost art. In Dana Goldstein’s article ,‘Why Kids Can’t Write’, she talks about what teachers are doing about grammar. The teachers are not doing much about the grammar issue in schools.
Being able to use language doesn’t make you literate. It’s essential to use appropriate grammar. Grammar has an impact on how words are read which impacts how well the audience engages with the text. In “Making a Case for Rhetorical Grammar”, Laura Micciche argues about rhetorical grammar is another composition’s driving of commitment to teach critical thinking and cultural critique in order to understand reading rhetorically (717-718). Throughout the letter, the mother uses soft techniques of grammar, she uses references to make her message stronger. The format of the letter tells the audience what type of persuasion is trying to be made. For example, the letter has a list. I think it makes the letter have a more serious format. The list
Language is how we express ourselves. There are many different languages in our world. Within those languages there are different dialects. Those dialects are affected by the communities that use them. People add slang or shorten words to make the language their own. This has an immense impact on how authors write. Some authors will attempt to use proper English, but often times will use words common to their community.
Verbal and written language is how people communicate with each other and encourage thoughts, achieve goals, and build relationships. Speaking a single, or multiple languages, and growing up in different setting can seriously alter the way that people speak the same language. This can either encourage diverse communication or make communication all but impossible. For the most part I speak English fluently, it is the only full language that I can speak and I developed this language growing up in a small farm town in the middle of New Jersey.
Language, according to Owens (2012, p. 6), “can be defined as a socially shared code or conventional system for representing concepts through the use of arbitrary symbols and rule-governed combinations of those symbols”. Language is thought to be a complex system; however, it can be broken down into three different components. These three components consist of content, form, and use. Within these three components, language has five main components which includes semantics, morphology, phonology, syntax, and pragmatics (Owens, 2012, p. 18).
Language is a fundamental necessity one needs to function in a given society. It is what allows one to express themselves in their speech, writing, or thoughts. Without this, functioning in a given society would be difficult. Grammar is important the job market, Kyle Wiens talks about some of his reasons in his article “I Won’t Hire People Who Use Poor Grammar. Here’s Why”. Kyle mention how he won’t hire people with bad grammar one reason being “for better or worse, people judge you if you can’t tell the difference between their, there, and there”. This is true in our current society with all the email, social media and all other ways of communicating without being there personally. We tend to base our opinion about other people on the way they communicate, so why not use this as a basis for the hiring process. Grammar in the job market is very helpful, one reason begins with if you have bad grammar on your resume you will most likely not get an interview. Therefore,

Language is a medium of communication and a carrier of culture because all that people know about their origin is communicated to them using language. In most cases mother tongues are suitable in expressing ones way of life. The native language is the best in expressing basic societal affairs. Language is the key medium of communication and it should be used in its simplest form because the simpler the language the easier the communication (Diyanni 633-639).
Language is a part of our everyday lives, and we can describe the meaning of language in many ways. As suggested in Gee and Hayes (2011, p.6 ) people can view language as something in our minds or something existing in our world in the form of speech, audio recordings, and writings or we can view language as a way of communicating with a group of people. Language can be used to express our emotions, make sense of our mental and abstract thoughts and assists us in communicating with others around us. Language is of vital importance for children to enable them to succeed in school and everyday life. Everyone uses both oral and written language. Language developed as a common ability amongst human beings with the change
Humans are born with the innate capability and knowledge to learn any language. Children can construct mental grammar easily due to such innate knowledge of language. Mental grammar can be defined as unconscious rules/principles of a language a speaker has in his/her mind. However, the ability to learn language is constrained by critical period, a time period in development when the human brain is prepared to construct a mental grammar. After the critical period, our innate ability to learn language diminishes. Test situations centered on the critical period for language acquisition and the input received during such period is essential in furthering comprehending human language. They shed light on how mental grammar are constructed.
The English language dictionary defines the term ‘language’ as the systematic coordination of symbols used for significant communication. These language symbols are governed by rules and as such must meet a given before it can be called a ‘language’.
