As I write this essay, I am aware that there are many excellent applicants who are deserving of this scholarship. It speaks volumes for the profession that there are so many outstanding nurses looking to advance the profession. As a new graduate nurse, I have eagerly listened, learned and absorbed from those around me. I have seen my technical skills, my clinical acumen and my ability to effectively communicate with patients and peers advance quickly. I have availed myself of many opportunities to be trained for and to serve on specialty teams or to take leadership roles in any capacity. While I may not be selected for all opportunities for which I apply, I will not be deterred, always driven by my desire to be on the forefront of nursing care, to go into uncharted waters, to take risks for the sake of advancing patient care.
