The facility I want to discuss during this course is Grace Healthcare Support Services. I work for a nursing home that is managed by Grace Healthcare. This a privately-owned organization that supports skilled nursing, assisted living, and rehabilitation facilities. Grace Healthcare manages over 32 facilities across the United States. The company’s philosophy is to create graceful living, and their mission is to serve from the heart. Nursing homes have engaged in a cultural change. The goal is to move away from scheduled eating, bathing, sleeping, and other activities, and provide what the resident wants, when they want it (Robinson, & Roshar, 2006). Change is hard in any industry, but adaptation means survival, and companies must have the ability

Florida Career College focuses a great deal on Dr. Jean Watson's theory of caring as it pertains to nursing, as written in their statement, "The College That Cares". Jean Watson has worked on perfecting what she believed was a useful, effective method and thought process to nursing; this pertains to Florida Career College's nursing program because a main goal of the college is to produce students who understand and appreciate how much caring, respect and understanding is in life and moreover in nursing. Personally as a Florida Career College student I strive to reinforce Dr. Jean Watson's theory of caring into my future career as a nurse.

New hires and quarterly the staff are given in-services in regards to discrimination, abuse and neglect. We do not have a specific in-service in regard to language and culture and what to do. I did ask some staff members what would happen if someone spoke no English and they came in as a resident how they would communicate with them and know about their culture. The response was from I do not know, to the family to hand gestures. The staff stated they have not encountered at this facility, but in places they worked in the past when there is a language barrier it takes much more time to communicate the basics to the residents. I think a great opportunity for education and training is to incorporate strategies with the orientation process, and quarterly in-services as well as needed. Another idea is at monthly meeting review different cultures that we can pull from the demographics of the area and discuss cultural differences and care needs. By posting information up prior to the meeting the staff can perhaps look up information about the culture and answer questions for prizes. Also serving a traditional dessert or small food items will also make it entertaining for the staff. By making cultural differences fun and interactive the staff will better embrace when someone of a different culture admits to the facility. The section where this CLAS standard is located places that the responsibility for implementation at the highest levels of organizational leadership (Koh, Gracia, & Alvarez, 2014). When the staff see the organization leadership not only making it important but investing time and money into it, the staff follow
Nursing assistants work in many types of settings including nursing homes, hospice, mental health centers, assisted living residences, home care agencies, hospitals, rehabilitation and restorative care facilities (Sorrentuino & Remmert, 2012). There are many types of Long-term care centers. For this paper, I will focus on the long-term care centers often referred to as nursing homes. These LTCs are "licensed facilities that provide extended care for individuals who do not require the acute care provided in a hospital but who need more care than can be given at home" (U.S Department of Health And Human...
...mplications that allow for opportunities of change. One of the presumptions is for training and staffing (Shi & Singh, 2012). With the utilization of health care improvements, the staff will need additional instructions on the performance of equipment and how to efficiently achieve the desired results. Managers or supervisors recognize the need for supplemental staffing and training to optimize patient satisfaction and quality of care. The health care administrator must also focus on changes in insurance policies and rules governing the provision of medical assistance (Shi & Singh, 2012).
My transition into the nursing profession was a major achievement for I am able to use my acquired skills to contribute to the community. As a bedside nurse and a staff member of a large medical establishment, I had to learn how to deliver care to a population that is very diverse. In order for that care to be effective, I must assume the roles of a counselor, therapist, educator, advocate and most of all as an interpersonal facilitator.
In an environment that deals with a vast amount of the diverse population, culture is very important. In fact, many healthcare organizations benefit immensely from the impact of culture in a diverse setting. One benefit of this setting is that culture provides guidelines for employees, patients, doctors, visitors, and others that utilize these facilities. Healthcare organizations set the foundation of their companies using cultural beliefs, values, and a code of conduct to create a diverse and accepting workplace.
Still, over the years the hospital continues to expand and transition while less than six years later, we are expecting another adjusted in the subsequent three years due to the development expansion in the community, and we feel our need to grow as well. Community involvement, Where is the competitive doing and how well are they doing, could make it possible my organization to top what other organizations are doing and how we can take it to the next level and make it a better product for our organization? During the E-Huddles suggesting plans for Compliance rates in providing patient monitoring and documentation updating the staff through a practice
As a nurse strive to provide culturally sensitive care, they must recognize how their client's and their perceptions are similiar as well as different. Nurse enhance their ability to provide client-centered care by reflecting on how their beliefs and values impact the nurse-patient relationship. To provide appropriate patient care, the nurse must understand her/his culture and that of the nurse profession. Cultural biases can be particularly difficult to identify when the nurse and client are of a similar cultural backgroup. When we recognize and know a culture, we will know what is right for our patient, and thus may impose our own values on the client by assuming our values are their values. Recognizing differences a present an opportunity not only to know the other, but also to help gain a greater sense of self. In this paper, I will explain more about diversity and cultural competence in case study.
I face direct patient care to those who were ill and in need every day. From answering a call light to comforting a patient as they live their last few minutes constantly kept reassuring me this was my passion. I have experienced the ups and downs of nursing. I have worked long, hard night shifts. I have seen and experienced what nursing really is and what fulfillment it can bring to your life. Today, I stand with confidence with my desire to further my education and become a Registered Nurse through Seattle University. Working hands-on at the hospital has brought me a lot of satisfaction; I have learned new terminology and skills from the nurses, which has reassured me I want to go further. I want to gain the knowledge and be able to help patients even more in depth. Although a long journey waits, I am already eager and excited to serve my community in nursing. Nursing is a profession where you are making a difference. I have learned that healthcare is not only about medicine but also an opportunity to comfort, listen, and lend a helping hand. This means to look beyond a patient’s age, race, religion, ethnicity, or economic status but instead focus on their well-being. Nurses are just ordinary people who have the privilege to help patients, the community, and even the
The experience of working at the hospital has given me a new sense of perception of the world and of the diverse group of people inhabiting its schema. It has also changed how I perceive myself; I learned that all the stereotypes I may have for a group of people will probably be wrong. I also learned more about my own identity, what I still need to work on, and how to manage it as it exists today. “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.” JFK
