The United States has had a variety of different presidents, both good and bad, and many in between. There are many different factors that go into the making of a good president, consisting of respect, confidence, clarity/honesty, compassion, and knowledge of everything they will be handling. They must have respect of the citizens of their country, no matter the race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation. The president must be confident in their decisions and beliefs, because it will make the citizens also feel safe and confident, and make them appear to be smarter. He has a tendency be disrespectful especially towards women, including degrading and sexualizing them, and overall judging them based off of looks and bodies. He has said things like “Heidi Klum, Sadly, she’s no longer a 10.” in an interview with New York Times, which absolutely no relevance to the current conversation. In addition, he judged Katarina Witt without being asked stating, “Wonderful looking while on the ice but up close and personal, she could only be described as attractive if you like a woman with a bad complexion who is built like a linebacker.” On the other hand, where he lacks in respect, he makes up for with maybe too much honesty, which you can view his twitter for his opinion on almost anything. Politico Magazine says that, “He just can’t help himself from blurting out the truth—even when it’s self-sabotage.” His compassion also seems to be lacking, which was exampled previously with his lack of respect for women, but also is shown when it was revealed that he decided to eliminate the Great Lakes restoration fund, along with other environmental budget cuts proposed for 2018, which sabotages the Great Lakes, a great underwater ecosystem. Barack Obama, the most recent leader of the United States, took different route in comparison to Trump. He exemplified great respect for people (which is linked his compassion), including people with more unusual sexual orientation compared to the 1900s norm. He boldly stated, “same-sex couples should have the same rights as anybody else,” and also legalized gay marriage in the United States which received an abundance of positive responses from many people, and brought joy and equality to the majority of the country. Obama also declared, ““...because for all our differences we are all one people, stronger together than we could ever be alone.” This united not just one political party but every single person, it is such a positive and necessary way of thinking for a leader. Going back to the importance of honesty, Barack was also recorded in an interview with CBS talking about how complicated the issues presidents deal with are, and how sometimes it may be better to not share everything, but to sometimes let situations play out which conflicts with Donald Trump, who doesn’t seem to have a filter. Obama is more careful and smart so as to not confuse or make a mistake when sharing information. Included in Obama’s many good traits as a president, he also radiated confidence. He winked, cracked jokes, and stood tall and sure with each decision he made, never doubting himself, which ensured less of the citizens of the US
