The effects of global warming is an undeniable a threat to the life on this planet, causing destruction of ecosystems, temperate climate conditions, and the livelihoods of everyday civilians . In Canada alone many can witness the abnormal weather conditions caused by manmade pollutants. Unarguably global warming is a very prominent issue in Canada, as seen by the extreme weather conditions experienced throughout, such as heatwaves, wildfires, etc. The most notable of which was the “Ice storm of 1998, in which 945 people were injured and cost 5.4 billion dollars in repairs. Another great option that is not only good for the environment, but for health reasons as well is eating less meat. The livestock industry is a large contributor to global warming, and makes up for 70% of land used for farming, and 30% of the earth’s surface. By eating less meat Canadians produce less methane and nitrous oxide gas, which is directly linked to global warming. Furthermore the livestock industry alone is accounted for 18% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. Choosing to walk or bike is a great alternative for driving to work. It is the healthier choice, and produces no greenhouse emissions. Choosing to walk or bike can reduce emission by up to 30%, as approximately 4 tonnes of co2 are produced by an average car yearly. If walking or biking is unreasonable, if Canadians were to maintain their vehicles, they would be one step closer to a greener and more sustainable country.If Canadian were to do regular tune ups they could save up to 1.2 billion gallons of fuel annually, directly affecting the rate of global warming.
