Recommended: Depiction of blacks in films

From the very first time watching the trailer for Jordan Peele’s film Get Out(2017) we knew we were going to watch something very special. Jordan Peele best known for his Comedy Central show Key and Peele; does something a little outside of his comfort zone and introduces a horror movie. The movie ranges from it small laughable moments to edge of your seat suspense. A young love story of an interracial couple of a young black photographer named Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his white girlfriend (Allison Williams) who go on a innocent trip to her parents house for the weekend ending being the worst little weekend trip Chris may ever experience. All jokes aside the film takes a stab at a deeper issue, the issue of race. The theme of the film is clearly …show more content…

This slow zoom creates a suspense because I was unsure what was going happen to Chris. Another example is when the camera zooms in to Georgina (Betty Gabriel) while she stares in the mirror. In your typical horror movie a director would typically choose dark colors to create that creepy feeling for the audience. Peele is not your typical director, I found it brilliant when arriving at the Armitage estate Peele decided to use bright lighting to create a calm and welcoming mood, towards the end of the movie the lighting becomes darker as Chris slowly begins to realize it create this unbalanced feeling and this false sense of security. The use of close-ups in Get Out is another strong cinteampghapic tool that Peele uses. A close up on Georgina’s face shows the tears that are rushing down her face it represents the hardships that African American have faced and this feeling of captivity. Another close up is on the teacup and the spoon, the teacup and spoon represent the “controlling device” in which the mother uses on Chris. This represents the dominance the white community have over the black
