Get out, is horror film that was released in 2017. The movie was written and directed by Jordan Peele, who I love. The film stars Daniel Kaluuya who played the character Chris and Allison Williams who played Rose. Of course, there are many other stars but these were the leading roles. Moving forward, the movie layout was based around an interracial couple. Rose who is a Caucasian woman is dating Chris who is an African American male. The couple had plans to visit Rose’s family. Of course Rose knew what Chris was getting into but he did not. The family plays a huge role as well because there is a horrifying secret which can lead to a nightmare for some; which the family kept from Chris. Rose would date African American men and introduced them …show more content…
I enjoyed the movie. Of course people are going to think racist thoughts when I say I enjoyed the movie. However, after watching the film a few times I started looking at the objects in the movie, trying to piece together meanings and hints the movie would give. One being, the fruit loops cereal and the milk. It gave the meaning that fruit loops are colored and milk is white. The reasons Rose did not put the milk in her cereal is because it was giving the belief whites and colors should be separate. Second being, the cotton that was put in Chris’s ears toward the end, gave off another racial hit. Third being, the movie’s sound track as well, the words in the track were hinting to Chris that he needs to “get out.” Even Peele the writer and director stated it was giving him a warning that something is coming to watch his back. The Silver Spoon is another connection- a figure of speech to describe privilege. The Silver Spoon then lead to the sunken place which we know targets the African American in regards to incarceration. The cameras flash when Chris took a picture of the African American guy he began to hit reality and told Chris to “get out.” The way Peele made the movie and how much of a thought process was put into the movie made the movie …show more content…
These are others reasons as to why the movie made a big hit as well. Think about it, from the cereal to the cotton to the silver spoon to the soundtrack these are small things that led to huge deals. I never caught this the first time watching the movie. I always watch a movie one to four times trying to grasp the meaning behind camera movements as well as prop meanings. When you start grasping all of this stuff when watching a movie you then are able to put two and two together and are able to understand the movie better. For instance, the shot reverse shots when the conversing was going on made me feel like I was a part of the movie at some points. The reaction shots that were happening when Chris took the shot of the African American and when the mom was putting Chris in the sunken place is what made the audience intrigued. The sounds in the movie such as the sound track and the certain sounds when certain people met you knew something was bound to happen and these are things the audience dies for. The mise en scene, editing, sounds and cinematography are all things that make connections to movies. For me at least, I can say this is what I look for in a movie. Moving forward is you are looking to go more depth into movies and actually understand them I would recommend taking The Language of Film, which some colleges do
This film represents our indigenous culture and regardless of what happens we can find good in a situation. Together the black and white community can come together and achieve more than they could ever do by themselves.
I am not a big fan of black and white movies. They don’t interest me, especially because they are mysterious and dark most of the time. At the beginning I did not take much interest in it because I was confused of what was happening and why it was happening. After reviewing it with the class the beginning made sense, so the second time I was more focused on the movie than the first time where I was just in blank about it.
I assumed that each color would have an individual meaning, but as the film progressed I realized that color as a whole had a much deeper connotation. Through the usage of color, the movie was able to tackle major social issues, which are deeply rooted concerns in cultures and society everywhere. Namely, the element of change - as interpreted from the film's constant stress on the town of Pleasantville's morals. Including the symbolism of sin, as many of the non-colored feared.
In conclusion, if a person is looking for a great movie with suspense and an exciting ending about racism, than this movie would be highly recommended. This movie has several different emotions including, sad, happy, and straightforward. This movie gives the person watching it a great look at how racism was in the 1960’s and how it should've been. No matter what shape, color, or size a person may be, everybody deserves to be treated the same. I really did enjoy watching this movie and I would recommend it to
The director main point of the movie is to show that racism shouldn’t exist. His other main point that I got out of it was him showing how whites and blacks became one, they all became a family at the end of the movie. Although the whites feared they would lose their starting position to the blacks and the blacks feared they wouldn’t get any playing time because of their skin color they were still able to get through it all and were all able to put their pride aside and become one and by them coming together and looking past all the criticism they got something great out of it, a state
I have always believed that all races have their good and bad. Their is never going to be the perfect race. This movie definitely set a powerful message that life is not perfect for any race and that even though people are from different cultures, they are all interconnected somehow. The filmmakers did a great job at showing us that individuals should not be based on first impressions such as skin color or the social status.
White people and rappers during the late 1970’s and 1980’s seem to be offended when asked about their role in the hip hop community. They think that black people are becoming a part of a cultural movement and they should join in. The heated responses from the white people in the film are typical answers. They symbolize people who are afraid. The white people are joining a movement that is becoming more and more popular. Black communities feel like others are joining in on their fun. They seem to not enjoy people of another race
Many of the readings we had this semester has given me a better outlook on the society I know today. Mainly, the most obvious characteristics of people, race. Race: The power of an Illusion, allowed me to understand the construction of a complex distinction of people. These distinctions and classifications created a divide in humanity, and re-enforced a system that not only favored the white race, but embedded a virus of hatred for colored people to succumb for future generations. The man made term and meaning of race is a important tool that the white elite used to oppress non-whites. It 's in this film, which provides us with there ridiculous claims of black bodies inferiority and theorized inevitability of extinction. False scientific theories
Moreover, it is a palatable film. It offers a few solid laughs and will provoke some smiles; it’s a fairly typical, unremarkable comedy. While the original film had the breaking of racial stereotypes in mind, this updated version has it more in mind to have fun with them for the sake of the comedy. It is a romantic comedy that touches upon race relations following a fairly well established story-line. I would say that the one redeeming value of the film is the message of "seeing people, not color."
...successful collaboration of sound, colour, camera positioning and lighting are instrumental in portraying these themes. The techniques used heighten the suspense, drama and mood of each scene and enhance the film in order to convey to the spectator the intended messages.
...em as a treasure. Just like at the end of the movie, the police officer Ryan helps the black couple that he insults. There is still hope in the movie that people still have humanity. It is a reflection of today’s social reality that people of different races live together peacefully. Even though it is impossible to say that there are no conflicts at all in today’s society, people are trying to accept and learn from other cultures.
Many devices such as theme, subject and meaning reflect different aspects of a film. The time and place that the movie is made are usually affected but this.
The poor are everywhere it seems. They are on the street corner, in the local 7 Eleven, and in the plaza. Sometimes I get sick of them and even angry with them when they pester me for money. I ask myself, "Is the best way to deal with poor, to give them money from my pocket?" It's obvious that other people have given them money from their pockets at different times. If no one had ever given them money, then these people wouldn't be standing here asking for money. The fact is, many poor people ask for money because they know they can get money that way. For most of the last 70 years our government has indirectly given the poor money from our pockets, through taxes and welfare. Not surprisingly, people have continued to ask for money. For most of those 70 years welfare fed the mentality that the best way to get money was to ask. I believe welfare as it was first started, failed miserably and created millions of dependents in poverty instead of independents above poverty. The welfare reform of 1996, I believe has helped the poor escape from the trap of poverty and is a more beneficial way of dealing with the poor.
People can feel better about themselves after watching these types of movies. Using these elements together, it makes the movie better, but not only that, but each element helps each other out in the scene to make it a very good movie
The purpose of the film was to show that no matter what skin color you are what only matters is who you are on the inside. The movie fails in this attempt to display a political statement in a comedic manner in the sense that in reality it depicts that people need to be aware that we should be equal regardless of skin color but it makes a mockery out of the fact that we are not equal in a non-hysterical manner. This movie is not a comedy in the sense that the jokes are funny because they truly are not funny especially for those who face these discrimination issues daily. The movie is basically promoting conformity in the idea that we all know that equality is a far stretch and that we are not there yet so let us just deal with it and turn it into a mockery.
