I listened to Messiah composed by George Frideric Handel. This music is well- known as the one of greatest oratorios in the world. In order to listen to this piece deeply, I needed to research about this piece and the composer of Handel. In the research, I could find that Messiah is English –language oratorio that composed in 1741. At that time, most music or oratorios was composed in an ancient language, which is Latin. Therefore, my assumption is that there were only few selected people, who learned the Latin, were able to listen to and enjoy it. However, now, Messiah is translated to many different languages.
I can still imagine that my first experience of Messiah oratorio. It was just three year ago and Christmas

The passage above is on page 240 within chapter 28. Earlier on in this chapter Nomi describes what has happened, regarding the fact that her father just left. Not only has her father left now but her mother, sister, boyfriend, and best friend, have all left leaving her all alone. On top of that all, she has now been excommunicated from her small town. The beginning of this chapter introduces another obstacle she will have to over come, and this passage is the beginning of Nomi understanding that she has to now step up to the plate and be responsible for what is going on around her. This passage changes the way the reader may have though she would react in this situation. I though that she would have had a break down or ran away just like everyone else did. But the quote has a very clam tone which led me to eventually think other wise.
George Frideric Handel was born February 23, 1685 in Halle, Germany, being born the same year as Johann Sebastian Bach. His father was 73 years old at the time of his birth. George, at a young age, had a passion for music, but his father wanted him to pursue a career in civil law. George’s father believed that music would not provide a real source of income and he would not even allow his son to own an instrument. Although his father objected, George’s mother, Dorothy, supported his love for music and encouraged him to practice. When reading famous works of literature, many qualities jump off the pages. Often, these will be in the form of differing contents, styles, themes, and purposes. In Mary Rowlandson’s Captivity Narrative, there is extremely vivid description throughout. She does not limit the severity of pain and discomfort felt by her and those in her surroundings. When caring for her wounded daughter, Rowlandson described the great discomfort she had in both sitting down and standing up without Christian support around her. Here, the treacherous trials she faced are greatly noticeable. Furthermore, Rowlandson’s relentless faith was incessantly evident, as powerful scriptures greatly alleviated her pain. The Captivity Narrative showed how one could survive upon faith and the belief that everything happens for a reason. Rowlandson’s strong will allowed her to keep somewhat emotionally distant as she was encountering awful situations. When her youngest daughter, who had been slowly dying in her arms for over a week, finally passed away, Rowlandson managed to escape complete sadness and depression. ...
The music of George Frideric Handel has been celebrated throughout time, especially his oratorio work. Handel’s oratorios are considered to be some of the best in existence. However, much discussion and reverence is given to his Messiah, while the others are not as commonly subject to this praise. Therefore, I will investigate the origin and creation of the oratorio, Esther by Handel, with focus on his music for the scene. I will argue that Handel expresses the drama and emotion of this biblical story through the musical elements he employs, particularily
George Frideric Handel was born musically inclined. As a child he was deprived of musical instruments because his father wanted him to pursue the law profession. However, George was allowed to take music lessons from a local organist, by the name of Friedrich Wilhelm Zachau, after Handel had impressed the Duke when he played the organ at the chapel. In his following years, Handel would travel to many places, accepting many different musical occupations. As Handel traveled, he was introduced to many of his musical influences. He wrote operas, oratorios, anthems, secular cantatas, and also wrote scarred music. Throughout his life, Handel would become famous for his compositions, particularly for his English Oratorios, however the most popular ones today include: “Messiah”, “The Water Music”, and “Royal Fireworks.”
In summary, Handel was one of the greatest composers to ever live. Although George Frederic Handel was mostly known for his oratorio The Messiah, he is also one of the paramount composers of the baroque era. Even though his father wanted him to become a lawyer, Handel never gave up his dream of becoming a world class musician. His creativeness and speed is unmatched even today. The operas and oratorios Handel created are still some of the greatest ever made. His contrasting textures and beautiful melodies make his music some of the most technical and beautiful music ever created.
German-English composer, George Frederick Handel, is one of the greatest composers of the Baroque period if not of all time. His work, Messiah, is one of the most famous and beloved works of music in the world. During his career in music, Handel composed Italian cantatas, oratorios (like Messiah), Latin Church Music, and several operas. Handel moved around from country to country writing, composing, and producing music for royalty such as Queen Anne and George of Hanover. In his life, Handel mastered several instruments including the violin and the harpsichord.
Music has been relevant in Christianity since its beginnings. Some of the first music was written in Latin and they were called Hymns. “Hymn is a song of praise” (Van Camp) and were sung only by catholic churches. When Martin Luther led the Protestant Reformation and helped create Protestant Christianity, he began translating hymns into German. All around Europe people were translating hymns into different languages. These translations were brought over by European settlers coming to America and were used frequently in both Catholic and Protestant churches.
Edgar Allan Poe and Herman Melville are two authors who belong to dark Romanticism. They both have created various works and have different styles of expression. However, their writing can be related with one another at some points. The story of “Bartleby the Scrivener” by Herman Melville begins when a lawyer complains that this profession has took him "into more than ordinary contact with what would seem an interesting and somewhat singular set of men the law-copyists or scriveners" (Melville 2). Bartleby is a person who is hired by a lawyer; even that he has three other copyists working for him in his office. He always admits to do all the work he is asked, expect one day when he is asked to examine a file Bartleby replies: "I would prefer not to" (Melville 8). At first, that seemed acquitted, but rapidly it becomes a chant. At the other hand, “William Wilson” by Edgar Allan Poe talks about a character that gives everything to fulfill his ambition, who afterward loses his identity and don’t know who he is anymore. The things start getting complicated when he realizes that another person exists with the exact appearance, name, the way of speaking, and even the same birthday as his. Subsequently, William Wilson becomes obsessed with the second William Wilson and at the start they find it hard to ignore each other, while their peers thought that they were brothers. At the end of the story, William Wilson who is angry and annoyed with the other Wilson confronts him, where second William Wilson finds death. The main similarity of the main characters of the stories of “Bartleby the Scrivener” written by Herman Melville and “William Wilson” written by Edgar Allan Poe is because they both are described in the first person. A key theme found throughout the Bible is that of God being glorified through the actions of people who are full of imperfections. One such example is King David, the greatest of the Israelite kings. He sinned against God in sleeping with Bathsheeba and then having her husband killed on the battlefield. (II Samuel 11) Yet he is still commonly seen as a champion of the Jewish faith. George Herbert took this theme of God glorifying Himself through human frailty and incorporated it into his poem, "The Windows." As a metaphysical poet, Herbert puts most of the meaning of the poem into a deeper level. Herbert does this by choosing words that contain several different meanings, all of which serve to further exemplify the theme, in such areas as human imperfection, God’s love and finally, the effect upon people of God showing Himself to them through the lives of others.
