In this assignment, I will be trying to make an action plan for a change in local environment, and more specifically my home. Now I choose this particular place due to me being so familiarized with it, and looking at the criteria I believe my home could use some help, my home is in the city of Kitchener, Ontario. This city has a unique climate in my opinion as the weather changes between seasons, now many will say that it is normal but they have not seen the amount of change Kitchener goes through. Below I’ve put a graph that will help you better understand the climate change between months, Kitchener has a humid continental climate of the warm summer subtype; there are large seasonal differences, usually very warm and

Another resource we use to save electricity is simply turn off the lights when you are not using them, which is a huge rule we have to follow in my house and it really does help a lot for something so simple. Another method we use more natural lighting. We try to keep the curtains and blinds open. Letting your house flood with natural light instead can lead to big electricity savings. Unless we need strong, focused light to complete a particular task, we try leaving the lights off during the day and embracing the sun's rays in the rooms you're using. Next Is. The Use candles instead of electric lights a few times a week. We don't wait until a summer thunderstorm knocks out the power to break out the candles. We try to Choose a night or two a week to leave the lights off and light your family's way with sturdy, slow burning candles that cast a fair amount of light. We also try our hardest to reduce waste by doing very simple things that don't affect our everyday life not even by a bit such as, Use cloth bags instead of plastic, we don't use bottled drinks, Reduce your paper usage by simply using email and finally Reusing and Recycling. I’ve only given you some examples we use in my household to help reduce waste and we always strive to …show more content…
Below I will list a table with the pros and cons of renewable energy as it is the biggest solution to the huge issue of overusing electricity. Next I will be discussing what we a society can do to further improve this situation and my main point lies within hydropower. Hydropower is the renewable energy contained in flowing water. Electricity is generated using hydropower known as hydroelectricity and is generally considered to be reliable.20% of the world’s electricity consumption in 2006 was generated with hydroelectricity (generating electricity from hydropower), the most used renewable energy source in the world. We all know that hydroelectricity is both renewable and green, but what are the other advantages this technology offer? Are there any disadvantages? Look below at figure 2 to see the pros and cons of hydropower. There are many changes to be made whether it be in a single home or as a community, we may face obstacles but that is what it is all about, we have the resource to use all we need to do is use them in the write up above I've listed problems that lie within my home as well as solutions we have done to fix the mistakes we made. I hope you enjoyed and learned a bit about resources and how to use them with all the effort
In an increasingly global world geography matters now more than ever. With so many groundbreaking technological advances within the last 50 years the world is rapidly evolving into a more interconnected and codependent society. These strides of advancement not only allow for international business interactions, but it allows instant communication to make business more cohesive. As a more interconnected society it is important for every person to understand the locations and cultural motivations of the people they interact with. These subject matters are suggested and discussed in “Why Geography Matters…More Than Ever!”
Forest Woodward is well known as one of the adventures photographer and the filmmaker. As a young shooter, Woodward, shows unique techniques to direct few documentaries features films. Although, his contribution towards the photographer let him to a successful filmmaker and he able to manages good relationship between a photographer and a film director. Later on his life, filmmaker Woodward was able to discovers that he was a great influence by this dad, Doug Woodward, who walked into the wild and discovers the important place when he was a young man. The Important Places is one of my favorite documentary film directed by Woodward in 2013 from his dad landscapes’ memories when his father was a young man down the Colorado River, which ultimately
The question that I will be answering for my coursework is which is best at protecting the Northumberland coastline – groynes or beach nourishment. I will be going to Blyth beach also I will be visiting Newbiggen beach I am investigating the Northumberland coastline as part of my geography coursework also because I live in the UK and I want to see how safe the people of the UK are with the safety of the coastline and its defences against coastal erosion. We will be visiting the Northumberland coastline on Thursday the 15th of May 2014.
The symbolism and imagery used in the short stories paints a vivid picture into the author’s train of thought. Charlotte Perkins Gilman and Shirley Jackson were not normal writers. The stories are a form of gothic writing. This paper will be analyzing the point of view, symbolism, and setting in the stories The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and The Lottery by Shirley Jackson.
...also save energy by using motion censoring for doors and sinks. The dining rooms and foyers should have dim-able light switches. Another way to save a lot of energy is to make a master switch at the front door that turns off all lights. That way you never leave a light on when you aren't at home. You should use natural gas cook tops and ovens to cut down on electricity.
Everyone is looking for a better way to have power. Solar power has very dependable technology, with little to no maintenance. It can bring finical savings by making more power a home owner may need and you can resell back the power company. Lastly help the environment by having no waste so less pollution and takes up unused space by putting them on to the roofs of the houses. In the end Home owners should try looking pass the initial price of Solar panels and see that this is a great way to produce energy that does not produce any carbon foot print.
The first type of renewable energy is hydroelectric energy or well known as hydropower. In greek word, hydro means water and thus hydroelectric energy refers to electricity generated using flowing water at high velocity. Lutgens and Tarbuck (1992, p. 163) stated that “running water is of great importance to people as we depend upon rivers for energy, travel and irrigation”. Continuous availability of water in universe made water to be the main source of hydroelectric energy. Water has been widely utilized by mankind since the beginning of civilization and wate...
On the surface, Russia appears to be a country with brutal cold temperatures, harsh laws, and intimidating culture. After taking a good look into Russian facts and culture, however, you will find that this large country has much more to offer. From gorgeous landscapes to traditions that go back for hundreds of years, beneath the seemingly icy exterior of Russia lies a country rich with history and beauty.
Instilling this new way of energy usage into off-grid communities will inevitably increase the state of living for those in cities and other well populated areas. The change to renewable energy sources could drastically lower the pollutants currently being dispersed into the atmosphere by coal mines and other harmful power options,
First way to save money by saving energy is by using light-emitting diode or LED bulbs to light your house over the incandescent bulbs
Hydropower, the use of water to power machinery or produce electricity, provides the most renewable energy in the United States, and uses alternating current in most modern plants ("Hydropower…”). Hydropower relies on the water cycle and is a clean fuel source; it doesn’t pollute the environment like plants that burn fossil fuels. It is by far the most efficient way to generate electricity, being half the cost of using nuclear power, two-fifths the cost of using fossil fuels, and a quarter the cost of using natural gas ("Wind and Water…”). Also, hydropower is not subject to market fluctuations of embargos, and the average lifespan of a facility is 100 years. Hydropower also has many non-energy benefits such as water supply, flood control, navigation, irrigation, and recreation. However, it does face many environmental challenges such as impacts to aquatic habitats, aesthetic alterations of landscapes, changes to water quality, and interruptions of marine life ("Hydropower…”).
Household energy conservation is a very practical and realistic approach to conserving energy within our society. US households consume a tremendous amount of natural gas as well as electric energy. It has been calculated that the amount of energy consumed within the US increased exponentially from about 1850 to 1975. If energy continued to increase at this rate, we would be experiencing severe energy shortages in our current society. Luckily, steps towards conservation, including various energy regulations, have curbed that growth somewhat, brining the predicted 160 Qbtu/yr for the year 2000 down to around 93.8 Qbtu/yr by the year 1996. However, household energy usage is still a major issue as households consume about 38% of the total consumed energy and contribute greatly to natural gas consumption and issues such as global warming. Therefore, it is important that people understand how we use energy in the household and what steps can be taken to conserve that energy.
Hydroelectricity is a renewable source that can be used for years and cam be expanded in many different ways. It also can produce energy from running water without reducing its quantity and can be utilized with other renewable sources that promote energy. Hydroelectricity contributes to the storing of drinking water by collecting rain water, which can then be used for irrigation; however it can also improve the air you breathe because it doesn’t release any toxins or pollutants. For a century, hydroelectricity has made long term improvements environmentally and can continue to do so for many years to come because of how affordable this technology is. (Lamb)
Solar power is only one of the forms of energy. Solar power has its advantages but most of the people the people think the solar panels are expensive disadvantages, but it’s actually an advantage. Solar power starts saving money from day one. Electricity is one of the key things we need to clean up and solar power is the way to do so. (Shanan 1-4) Solar energy is a visible form of alternative energy. Solar panels capture energy from the sun’s rays and convert it to electricity. Solar power offers a clean form of energy. Solar energy carries political considerations just as petroleum does. (Linden 1-4) Virginia Water Resource Research Center has found that solar photovoltaic uses about 21 times less water than nuclear power about 16 times less water than coal power and 8 times less water than a combined cycle power plant. (Shanan 1-4) Solar power has disadvantages also. Solar panels make a ton of pollution when their built, and sun doesn't always shine on them. (Shanan 1-4) They may take several years too see a return on investments. Solar energy is not universal because different areas of the world get different amounts of sunlight. Solar energy may not offer the best solution: there distractions, they have high environmental costs and they have a large outlay of cash. There can be contamination from radio activation saved used to make solar panels. (Hinder 1-4) Installation is expensive being $80,000 for a three bedroom after the federal rebate. The angle of the roof, percentage of sunlight and the area of the country all play a part in the effect of how much it will co...
Using fossil fuels such as coal and oil is inefficient, dangerous, and otherwise a process that is known to eventually fail as a long lasting energy source. Yet, there is hope for the future of energy, this new hope has many shapes and forms, but requires a chance to be fully implemented in our everyday life. Such energy sources like solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, and hydro power are the key to our future. These energy sources are proven to be long lasting, safe, more reliable, and the next innovation. In short, all Americans should switch to renewable energy, resulting in a safer and more efficient world.
