Energy efficiency is essential to provide citizens with functioning electricity and fuel. The energy I would use to fuel my city is hydroelectric because its pros and cons outweigh the pros and cons of solar, coal, wind, and nuclear energy. The most efficient energy source for my city is hydroelectric energy. Hydroelectric energy is the most efficient for many reasons. Hydroelectric energy’s power fuel is water, which does not give off harmful chemicals or waste in the air or water; keeping our planet very clean. Hydroelectric energy also has constant power. Its power is generated by moving water. Water is constantly moving. After hydroelectric plants are produced their energy can produce electricity very cheaply. Hydroelectric plants can be opened locally because many worldwide locations have the supplies necessary for the plants to function. Hydroelectric power plants are also quite adjustable to whatever water is available in an area. Both small and large systems can be set up. Water that passes through the turbine is not contaminated and can be reused downstream. With dams, power generation can be regulated to match demand. Impoundment plants make energy more efficiently during high demand periods as well. On that note, water pumps rarely ever need replacing and can constantly work quicker and more precisely than average. This would be a great solution in areas where flooding occurs because the pumping of so much water calms it. The hydroelectric energy’s positive aspect outweighs the pros of any other energy source. There are also a few cons to hydroelectric energy; but they are definitely outranked by the pros. Droughts lessen the capabilities of hydroelectric power. Also, Impoundment plants can prevent fish from moving ups... ... middle of paper ... ...r power. Nuclear is a centralized power source. It cannot process on its own. It requires wind and solar energy to function. The waste produced by nuclear power plants takes over 200,000 years to disintegrate. Uranium is the main fuel used and is much more difficult to find and more of a pollutant than other gasses that can be used. The environmental pollution and health risks are catastrophic. New technologies to improve the nuclear systems will not be approved for decades. Nuclear energy is also very destructive to both the site of the power plants and a target for terrorism. The risks of nuclear power do not pay off for the lives that could be lost using this risks energy source. Hydroelectric energy is the best possible energy source because it has the least problems and the most success and efficiency. I would fuel my entire city with hydroelectric energy.
It uses flowing water to generate electricity. It does this by using dams and reservoirs for storage. This method gives us the most electricity rather than any other renewable energy source. Not only do the dams and reservoirs create electricity, they also control flooding (Sambu). Hydropower is the least expensive procedure to generate electricity. This is true because “once a dam has been built and the equipment installed, the energy source—flowing water—is free. It's a clean fuel source that is renewable yearly by snow and rainfall. Hydropower is also readily available; engineers can control the flow of water through the turbines to produce electricity on demand”
Energy is undoubtedly one of the most important issues facing the world today. While fossil fuels may produce enough energy at a low cost, it also has severe environmental impacts on the world. Wind energy is a clean source, but is also extremely expensive to maintain. Nuclear energy may be the best energy alternative to coals and oil, with the ability to produce much more energy with relatively low cost, while also being more environmentally sound.
There are many sources of energy today, and the best source of it is constantly being sought after, one source stands out above the rest. Nuclear energy is simple in theory, yet it may be one of the most controversial sources of power. Nuclear energy works using reactors built to split the atoms (nuclear fission) of the fuel to produce heat. This heat evaporates the cooling agent (usually water) into steam which turns turbines to create electricity. Nuclear energy should be allowed, because it produces an abundance of electricity, as well as being a clean source of energy with no harmful emissions. Nuclear energy is the future of clean, environmentally friendly energy.
Nuclear power may lead to some extensive breakthroughs in multiple fields for better or for worse in the case of humanity and its survival. It’s a topic that people need to take a bit more seriously as it holds the chance to make or break the future for earth and its inhabitants. Greater risks have greater rewards and as observance of nuclear products and ideas deepen then so do the products yield, perhaps into infinity. While nuclear power is accompanied by several risks, it can also be the solution for various global strains and difficulties. Sufficient energy for the world is a huge goal to tackle and requires the use of any efficient resource we have, especially when the source has so much potential.
After the United States developed the atomic at the end of World War II, interest in nuclear technology increased exponentially. People soon realized that nuclear technology could be used for electricity, as another alternative to fossil fuels. Today, nuclear power has its place in the world, but there is still a lot of controversy over the use of nuclear energy. Things such as the containment of radiation and few nuclear power plant accidents have given nuclear power a bad image. However, nuclear power is a reliable source of energy because it has no carbon emissions, energy is available at any time, little fuel is needed for a lot of energy, and as time goes on, it is becoming safer and safer.
In conclusion, there are different opinions on the issue of the use of nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is only one of many energy options. Nuclear power can decrease pollution to the environment because it does not produce harming gases like other plants do. However, there are also drawbacks that can influences human health by emitting radioactive substances. Thus, all parties should make a deeper research and analysis based on the argument to decide the use of nuclear energy as a safe and cost effective source of energy.
We need to switch to nuclear power instead of fossil fuels such as coal and oil. Nuclear energy is a clean way to create electricity versus other ways that produce the same amount of electricity, but have a harsh effect on our world. Most people have bad feelings towards nuclear power because of three major incidents, Three-mile Island in 1979, Chernobyl in 1986, and more recently Fukushima in 2011. It is because of these events that many dislike the idea of nuclear power and have a misunderstanding of what actually happened in these events. According to the World Nuclear Association, “These three significant accidents occurred during more than 16,000 reactor-years of civil operation.
Nuclear power is a growing source of energy to most of the world for many benefits. People doubt the significant of nuclear power because of one accident. Due to this accident, the world has only seen the flaws in nuclear power and not the many benefits it has to offer. Nuclear power would benefit worldwide if people would let go of the past and look towards the future. Nuclear power is a better alternative energy because of its economic and environmental benefits.
Hydro power is one of many examples of alternative energy sources. Hydro power produces energy by moving water. Wind power is another form of solar power. Wind isn’t only a clean fuel source, but it is one of the most inexpensive alternative sources of energy.
Nuclear energy will always be a source for electricity. It has its pros and its cons but nuclear energy is reliable and it will always be available for developing nations. It takes time for countries to build power plants because it isn’t cheap. Also because of high radiation levels, people will always need to be careful when working around uranium because it can cause cancer. Power plants and nuclear energy will always be in use all over the world.
The first type of renewable energy is hydroelectric energy or well known as hydropower. In greek word, hydro means water and thus hydroelectric energy refers to electricity generated using flowing water at high velocity. Lutgens and Tarbuck (1992, p. 163) stated that “running water is of great importance to people as we depend upon rivers for energy, travel and irrigation”. Continuous availability of water in universe made water to be the main source of hydroelectric energy. Water has been widely utilized by mankind since the beginning of civilization and wate...
Hydropower, the use of water to power machinery or produce electricity, provides the most renewable energy in the United States, and uses alternating current in most modern plants ("Hydropower…”). Hydropower relies on the water cycle and is a clean fuel source; it doesn’t pollute the environment like plants that burn fossil fuels. It is by far the most efficient way to generate electricity, being half the cost of using nuclear power, two-fifths the cost of using fossil fuels, and a quarter the cost of using natural gas ("Wind and Water…”). Also, hydropower is not subject to market fluctuations of embargos, and the average lifespan of a facility is 100 years. Hydropower also has many non-energy benefits such as water supply, flood control, navigation, irrigation, and recreation. However, it does face many environmental challenges such as impacts to aquatic habitats, aesthetic alterations of landscapes, changes to water quality, and interruptions of marine life ("Hydropower…”).
Water is the most important element to our ecology system. The human as a users need the water in their life and so do the flora and fauna also needs it. As we know the water come from the river but the users need the clear and clean water to use it daily. The good water come from the dam and reservoir. According to Amanda Briney, a dam is any barrier that hold back water and its also defines as a primarily used to save, manage, and prevent the flow of excess water into specific regions. When discussing about dams, another term often used is reservoir. A reservoir is a manmade lake that is primarily used for storing water, and it can also be defined as the specific bodies of water formed by the construction of a dam ( Briney,A). Woodward(2004-2005) claims that there are one or more reason why dams is built. Dam functionally to provide a supply of water for towns, cities and mining sites. For example, Warragamba Dam in Australia is the main water supply dam for the city of Sydney. Second, dams built to contain and store waste (tailing) from mines. There is a dam at Omai Tailings Dam, Guyana, South America which stored waste from a gold mining operation. Another function of dam is to generate electricity in hydro-electric power stations and most dams were functionally as a hydroelectric dam. Dam which can be example for this function is Itaipu Dam at Brazil. This dam is the largest hydroelectric power station in the world. Some other reason why dam is built is it works to provide a supply of water for the irrigation of crops. The Burrinjuck Dam at Australia is the example for this kind of dam and it was built as the main head water storage for the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area in New South Wales. Last but not lea...
One efficient way to acquire energy is Hydropower. Hydropower is power derived from the energy of falling water or fast running water. This energy converter is harmless to the environment. Other ways will affect the atmosphere and the environment in a negative way. The most common device for hydropower is a dam. It relies on the water cycle. This is one of the oldest sources of energy.
Hydroelectricity is a renewable source that can be used for years and cam be expanded in many different ways. It also can produce energy from running water without reducing its quantity and can be utilized with other renewable sources that promote energy. Hydroelectricity contributes to the storing of drinking water by collecting rain water, which can then be used for irrigation; however it can also improve the air you breathe because it doesn’t release any toxins or pollutants. For a century, hydroelectricity has made long term improvements environmentally and can continue to do so for many years to come because of how affordable this technology is. (Lamb)
