In my Genius Hour Project, I researched long-term colonization of Mars. I chose this topic because I have always been fascinated by other planets and space. What we cannot see has always made me wonder. I pursued my interests in this project. I set a goal to learn about Mars. This experience has made me much more knowledgeable and curious about other planets.
The process for my Genius Hour project was very long as I had to research many sub-questions within my main question. My research was challenging as nobody has ever been to Mars. Sometimes, there was a lack of information. It took a lot of time to extract information from thin resources. I only needed information that was relevant to what I was researching.
I did meet the goals of
INTRODUCTION Attention-getter: “Space travel benefits us here on Earth. And we ain’t stopped yet. There’s more exploration to come.” (Nichelle Nichols from Star Trek) Credibility: Throughout our childhood as we study space, solar systems, planets we all come to a point of having the dream of exploring the space or learn more about it in the future.
On wednesday we left for outdoor ed. We loaded the buses and left. When we arrived we had a hike into skycroft. Once we arrived we had lunch. After lunch we got into our cabins and then meet at the black top. We had our first activity. My group he snakes went on the history hike. Then we came back and had dinner. After dinner we had a short rotation including five rotations. Then we had cabin time and went to bed. On Thursday we woke up and went to breakfast. After breakfast we had to activities. There was a fire close by so we all had to go to the gym. Once that was over we had lunch and dinner. Then there was a concert and it was fun. After the concert we had cabin time and went to bed. On Friday we woke up and ate breakfast. Then we had
The main reason for hunting was not the display of nobility, but the thrill of the hunt, the danger it presents, the exhilaration of the kill. To add to the challenge nobles often would use inconvenient methods. Such as killing a bore with a knife, or charging a bear while on horseback.
In mid March of 1998, a scientific break through occurred for the engineers at NASA. The space probe that they sent to Mars came back and, for the first time, contained readable and usable photographs of the planet's landscape. Full of pride over their latest achievement, NASA posted the information on the Internet. This allowed astronomy enthusiasts, students, and other interested individuals to take a first hand look at the, never before seen, Martian Landscape. (NASA)
Throughout my first year in middle school I have really started taking great thought into my future. I have realized that I am getting closer to my adult life and that I need to start to plan for the type of future that I wish to have. As much as I enjoy team activities, I do think of myself as more of a leader and would like to go about planning my career in this way. I am determined to go about things at an advanced pace which is why I believe I should be part of the National Junior Honor Society.
I believe that I, Christine Kuykendall, am a good candidate for a spot in National Junior Honors Society. I hold all of the core values, I am an all A student, and I love helping in the community. I am also a very hard worker and I believe that I can do great things in National Junior Honors Society.
March winds replaced the biting February air and soon blew away into the cool spring air of April. When I arrived back to the pond in the Japanese garden, no spindly skeletons welcomed me into their empty winter home with their bare hands. Instead, a handful of bright green leaves waved at me as they rustled cheerfully on the trees and shrubberies whenever the wind breathed. Blotches of pale pink and purple petals dressed the trees and sprinkled the paths leading to the turtle pond. Reflecting the lively green trees on its pristine surface, the pond looked peaceful. Several dragonflies buzzed and fluttered above, peering at me with their large, jewel-colored eyes. The garden had awakened from its winter slumber to invite spring in again.
Colonizing Mars, it seems like a distant achievement. Some say impossible, some say it will happen soon. Since Elon Musk has entered this field of exploration colonization of Mars has seemed even more plausible. Still, problems have surfaced to make this much more difficult than it has to be. This makes some believe this to be impossible or unlikely for the time. Despite what side you are on we can both agree that we want to advance in space exploration.
As a society of people with different cultures, backgrounds and ideas, progress and civilization lead to development in cultural, social and intellectual advancement. Nowadays the American Vision has altered immensely from the American Vision during the 1893 Worlds fair. Since the time of the fair races and genders that did not fit into the “ideal society” have integrated making a substantial impact on our society. The transformation our nation went through shows great progress of civil obedience that was once uncanny. Consequently, many years ensuing the conversion of the American Vision has directed our nation down a more prosperous path. Looking back, we cannot help ourselves, too wonder, what would our society have been like today if
The bee is a fascinating creature that has sparked my interest since I was a little kid. Like I discussed in my story, bees played a big role in my childhood. The two primary types of bees that I remember from my childhood are the bumblebee and the honeybee. With all the plants and flowers in my yard, these two types of bees were sprinkled throughout my yard feeding and pollinating. To provide background for my story, I am going to discuss the bumblebee and honeybee, as well as Africanized bees and what it means to have an allergic reaction to a bee sting.
Thank you for choosing our school to select artifacts for the time capsule to Mars. I have chosen three things to take into space and they include a dollar bill, a bottle of water, and a pack of Ramen noodles. Future people will be able to see how we lived in the past and also how we interacted because they can learn more about us.
This project for Earth Science proved to be quite engaging. At first, I thought that the project was going to be long and arduous, however, being able to choose my topic for the project actually helped in galvanizing interest in it. Through this project, I learned a whole lot about the Jovian planets that fascinated me when I was a child. From gargantuan Jupiter, ringed Saturn, peculiar Uranus, and stormy Neptune, I learned many facts that I couldn’t discover outside of Earth Science. I learned many facts like how the Jovian planets got their colors, and whether or not Gas Giants are solely made of gas. I enjoy the fact that we are able to choose what we want to research about, choosing what interests us the most. Thanks to this project, I feel that I know just a bit more about the vast amount of knowledge of our Universe.
Since the beginning of time, mankind has sought after learning about and exploring the universe. This yearning drove us to achieve such great things as the journey to the moon and the discovery of water on Mars. Nowadays, several people argue as to whether or not space exploration is worth the effort. I believe that it is humanity’s instinctual nature to pursue a better understanding of ourselves, and our universe. Further understanding of our universe will lead to the discovery of new technologies and ways to secure humanity’s survivability.
Overall, the Astronomy conversation was a success. Sharing of information led to new ideas and a great discussion on the future of space travel. All participants learned something new about the future of space travel. Last, it was obvious that regardless of age, education, or professional background, people are interested and excited about the future of space travel.
Some may think exploring outer space is simply a human’s curiosity. This is true but on the contrary, people explore to learn about things they may have never known and touch on the essence of the creation of the universe. Another reason for exploring this uncharted area is the technological advancements people have made and immense amount of innovation they have achieved in this field (Wood). Lastly, scientists study the other planets just in case one day humans need to relocate after overwhelming damage has been done to Earth. Suffice to say, it is a vital part of today’s day and age to research outer space (Rothery).
