"We have been cut off, the past has been ended and the family has broken up and the present is adrift in its wheelchair”. The children are one of the significant graces and gift from the God to the parents, and no one knows the value of grace except the people who do not have this grace. Today’s life is more complex, problems become many as the number of the people, and the nature of the parents is concerned about their child's future. So as the life become complex as the parents become confusing in understanding the new generation. The generation gap is the years that separate generation from another, that cause lead to lack communication between the two generations, especially between the parents and their children. Parents and specifically for the mothers who think about their children more than the time required trying to find the correct path for them. The children should appreciate what their parents did for them. Based on the figure (1), the comparisons between the three generations in many aspects, and specifically for use of social media, it noticed that generation Y have used the social media more than the two generations. Aspellira says in Rocio Reyes book The Psychology of Adolescence, generation gap is just a concept that developed by the researcher in studying the people behavior between the generations. Mrs. Aspellira mentioned “there is no generation gap between grandchildren and grandparents”1 , which it also mentioned in this book if the children punished by their parents, they feel free to ask their grandparents for their needs, that means the grandparent appreciate and understand the needs of their grandchildren. So it is not difficult for the parents to understand their children, it’s a matter of time. In contrast, I strongly believe that the generation gap exist between the young generation and old generation, for many reasons such as technology and lifestyle during the years.
In conclusion, generation gap can be results because of many reasons, but the more affective reasons were the technology, and the lifestyles changing during the years and all these due to the money. Older generation were depend on the traditional way of living, bur in today’s generation, they completely depend on the technology and the new path of the life. Where they are influenced by actors and singers. Especially in today’s life people try to be famous, even if this will be not beneficial for the
Generation X has formed a strong opinion about Generation Y over the years, claiming that millennials are the laziest generation in history. Technology is said to be a major factor in making life more convenient for millennials, which according the Generation
Through all these wildly changing times, are we the people also changing? Is the generation gap a myth or can it be sustained?
Those born between the years of 1982 and 2004, became known as The Millennials, however, this generation has been redefining traditional standards set by previous generations. By this generation's standards, they want to achieve higher education and travel, things that will set them back financially which has been made as a point to their change in the expected time for adulthood. One that is willing the delay the previous generation's’ dream of marriage and family to reach their more modern take on the American Dream. Millennials have many differences from them and previous generations, they were able to look more towards “who they were” than “what needs to get done”.
“Bridging the Gaps” began by defining the three most dominant generations in the workforce: Baby Boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964), Generation X (those born between 1965 and 1981) and Generation Y (those born during or after 1982). Wilson stresses the importance of understanding each generation’s unique characteristics to take advantage of their strengths. This approach also minimizes confrontation when multiple generations work together. Wilson lists characteristics such as being entrepreneurial, ardent about social causes, and independent as similarities between Baby Boomers and Generation Y, while Baby Boomers and Generation X both value loyalty, focus on finances and believe in a hierarchy of order. Lastly, Generations X and Y are flexible and technologically savvy.
The generation who are born between the year 1940 and 1960 falls under this generation. This generation was born during a spike in child birth after World War II. The children of this generation had many advantages as they grew up in optimistic and positive times compared to the children of t...
Every person belongs to a generation: you associate yourselves with a particular set of people usually based on age such as “Baby Boomers” from 1946 to 1964, “Generation X” from 1965 to 1979, and “Millennials” from 1980 to 2000, (Smola, 364). Parents’ generations differ from their children, and sometimes within their significant other. My parents, separated by two years, are both considered “Baby Boomers”, and my sister and I, also separated by two years are both considered “Millennials”. “Generation X” separates our generations, and as you can assume there are many differences between the two: “Baby Boomers” experienced the immense development of the economy and education (Kupperschmidt, 4).
Baby Boomers are the most powerful demographic group in history. Businesses thrives or fails based on their ability to keep pace with the likes and dislikes of this economic powerhouse known as the baby boomers. At 76 million strong, boomers have the influence to rule the marketplace and make sure they keep a place set just for them as the
In life there are many people, things, or places that we experience that have influenced our lives so unique and powerful there unlike any other. Some women experience such alteration with the birth of a new baby. While for another person this life alteration may be making partner at a law firm. Though everyone experiences life on a different level one thing is for certain, not everything in life is a good experience. Everything in life is balanced, and with every joy comes some form of heartache. For some people it takes an emotional toll so incoherent that it never fades. After World War I many men experienced the let down affiliated with the war, and discovered there fight for admiration and loyalty led to nothing more than a expulsion of lost values, thus leading to the “lost generation.”
...r gadgets in their times made them depend on more manual work. Whatever their field of education they were expected to learn the about the family business and lend their hands in it. So Their hard work made them learn the value of money the harder way. Based on these experiences they tried to give their children, the Gen Y a better life. They put in every effort to make their children’s lives more joyous and happy. Gen X believed in extreme hard work, leading simple lives and having in depth planning for the future. Their hard work made them work at the grassroots level and they knew the basics of every work done by them. Their concepts were very clear. Gen Y on the other hand lives in the copy paste age so their concepts are not so clear. Gen X feels that Gen Y is overconfident, irresponsible, and lacks awareness in many things. They do not plan about the future.
My generation has been handed a lot of issues to hopefully be solved by my generation. The government has a national debt and unsustainable welfare programs. Programs that are well-meaning but cannot be financed by my generation. Changes will have to come through inventive minds of my generation. Also currently there are very few job opportunities for my generation. Many college graduates cannot get jobs. College cost are at an all time high, many of my generation wonder if it is worth the cost or is it even a possibility. The American dream of a college education, a good job, nice home, and car are seeming more and more unattainable to my generation.
As time goes on a gap is created between the past generations and the current generations. This gap between men in the 1950s and the men now (2009) are similar and different in terms of the roles they play, their attitudes towards society, women and work, and their identities. The root to the generation gap in India is due to the influence of media especially television and movies have caused people to look up to the characters and strives to act like them, which reinforce gender stereotypes and identities. For example, Love Aaj Kal, an Indian movie released in 2009 is a contrast of couples in the 1980s and present day. In the movie one of the actors says, “Aaj ke ladke bauth modern aur independent ho gaye hai. Hum aare zamane mein baath hi kuch aur thi” (Veer Singh). In translation, it means that, “Boys these days are very modern and independent. In our time things were different”(Veer Singh). The following are many different ways to interpret what the actor was trying to say about men then and now in regards to roles, attitudes and their identities.
Parents of the individuals in Generation Y are according to Rosie Evans (n.d.) “subconsciously trying to cover up their guilt over the state of the economy by lifting their children’s financial burdens.” Our social lives in some ways are very positive and many of us can balance a good social life. On the other hand, some of us don’t have a very good balance and our social lives can come between our families, education, and finances. The Millennial generation is very dependent on social media, and what society says is “in,” this is because that’s mostly all we know, growing up in a time where technology is a main part of society. We may be very dependent on our social lives and having that is important as long as it is balanced and positive, learning to balance our lives among family, friends, school, and money is a big part of
As the largest generation on the planet (Jenkins), the Millennials (otherwise known as generation Y) have faced plenty of scrutiny from the previous generations. A Millennial is the demographic group made up of anyone who was born between the years 1980 and 2000. This group of young people has proved to be a great contribution to society and also to the advancement of technology. They do things in their own ways and on their own terms, always approaching a problem in the most efficient way possible for everyone. Millennials have settled numerous issues in our society and they are expected to change our world exponentially. Millennials adapt to new technologies very quickly, however, while Millennials see themselves in generally positive terms such as ‘tech-savvy’ and ‘up to date’, many people from the older generations see them as ‘spoiled’ and ‘lazy’. The new technologies do make living everyday life easier and more functional, however, Millennials are not at all ‘lazy’ for taking advantage of them. Millennials use these new tools in incredibly innovative ways and they see the world in a completely different light.
Nowadays, we lived in the globalization era where technologies are really essential. Foremost, the wide spreading of globalization influences the human life rapidly. In addition, there are not immortal things in this world, where everything will change. Even though we cannot see the development of the life but we can feel it. It also occurs in the groove of the people live from one generation to the other generations. Each generation faces different issues based on the environmental conditions. As the time goes on, the problems that we will face are more complicated than before. It illustrates, our parents’ generation is never the same as our generation but it is a good
The interests, food, habits, slang, entertainment and also the way of thinking of the younger generation differs from the older generation. These changes are indicative of progress, unfortunately, the older generation find it hard to accept these changes that make the gap wider. They differ in the way of dressing for example, the younger generation wear jeans and stay up to date in their style unlike the older generation. As the older generation has their own style according to their age. So the older generation might find these outfits inappropriate.
