What is a gender pay gap? A gender pay gap is the difference in the earnings every hour for woman and men for doing the same work. Therefore this is an issue because one should have equal pay when doing the same job with the same amount of skill. It should not be based off one's gender or culture or anything else. This essay will fall deeper into why the gender pay gap is a continuous global issue. As well as why the topic of sexual harassment is a new contributing factor to the gender pay gap and we will discuss some other parts of the gender pay gap.

The gender pay gap is not just a problem from back when women could not vote, it is very recent and still continuing. Only a few years ago back in 2016 in the United States of America some companies would pay woman 79 cents to every dollar a man made in the same work. Also a black woman would earn 60 cents and Hispanic woman earning 55 cents to every white man's dollar which is not ok. Only a few weeks ago 10,000 companies in the United Kingdom submitted there pay gaps in a survey. Part of it is that one gender feels more worth than the other so they feel they should be paid more. But a more recent realization is that a huge part of the gender pay gap issue has to do with sexual harassment/workplace harassment and discrimination. Several studies have shown that some higher paying jobs are showing more signs of harassment than lower paying jobs. Therefore the women who are not willing to put up with the harassment are being put into lower paying jobs because they feel safer and with lower risk of the harassment. So one gender is in a lower paying job just because they do not want to be harassed while trying to make a living. Workplace harassment and the gender pay gap are both linked together and if we could solve one, maybe the other would get better
